DARBY O'GILL AND THE LITTLE PEOPLE(1959):

Starring the only known actor in this, Sean Connery,
and a very pretty young lady(Janet Munro), this tells
a tale of Leprcauns in the land of Ireland and one
old guy that insists that he's seen them! This truly
is a lot of fun, and a good love story! A-

A review from Amazon

Purportedly one of Walt Disney's most personal pet
projects, Darby O'Gill shows the effort and care put into
it. Even now the special effects hold up shockingly well.
Darby O'Gill is an estate caretaker, but in his advanced
years he's more fond of telling tall tales in the local pub
about the wee folk than keeping the grounds. A new man
(a very youthful Sean Connery) is sent in to take his place,
and O'Gill doesn't know what will become of himself and
his daughter. He snags three spectacular opportunities,
however, when he catches the king of the leprechauns.
This film is whimsical without being silly, supernatural
without being outlandish, and all and all a treat for the
whole family. --Keith Simanton

GNOME-MOBILE, THE(1967):

Another story about little people(this time, wait
for it, Gnomes!!) Main star here is Walter
Brennan, with the talents of the Mary Poppins
Children(Matthew Garber & Karen Dotrice), along
some pretty good co-stars: Richard Deacon &
Ed Wynn(both are known for several Disney
movies)! Anyway, Brennan and the kids run into
a couple of Gnomes who think they are the last
of their race, and they decide to try to help
the pair find some more to help propegate thier
race! Pretty cute really! B+

A review from Amazon

A family movie set in the sixties about a wealthy
grandfather setting out on an adventure with his
grandson and granddaughter and meeting up with
some little people. There is even a hint of early
conservationism in this movie. There is no fancy
computer animation.

If you enjoyed Mary Poppins then you will enjoy
this movie. A light movie. - A. Wardrop

Walter Brennan ... D.J. Mulrooney / Knobby
Matthew Garber ... Rodney Winthrop
Karen Dotrice ... Elizabeth Winthrop
Richard Deacon ... Ralph Yarby
Tom Lowell ... Jasper
Sean McClory ... Horatio Quaxton
Ed Wynn ... Rufus
Jerome Cowan ... Dr. Ramsey
Charles Lane ... Dr. Scoggins
Norman Grabowski ... Male Nurse
Gil Lamb ... Gas Attendant
Maudie Prickett ... Katie Barrett
Cami Sebring ... Violet

HAPPIEST MILLIONAIRE, THE(1967):

This one stars Fred McMurray as, what else,
a millionaire! Along with Fred are a bevy of
pretty big names from the period: Paul Petersen
(The Donna Reed Show, "She Can't Find Her Keys",
"My Dad"), Gladys Cooper(Batman's Aunt Harriet)
Hermione Baddely(Several other Disney movies)
John Davidson(also several other Disney movies),
Eddie Hodges(Summer Magic, also known for the
songs "I'm Going To Knock On Your Door" and
"Girls Were Made To Love"), Greer Garson(Pride
And Prejudice, Goodbye Mr. Chips), Tommy Steele
(Finnian's Rainbow) & Leslie Ann Warren(The One
And Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, Cat
Ballou)!

As for the story, Tommy plays a dude who wants
the position of butler at Fred's very disorganized
home!! And Fred's running a "bible school" as
well as a boxing school!! This is terribly long,
(over 2 3/4 hours!!!) with several places that
could have been done without! B

A review from Amazon

Reportedly the last feature to be personally
shepherded by Walt Disney himself, The Happiest
Millionaire is a stubbornly old-fashioned musical
intended to build on the success of Mary Poppins,
relying on songs and score from Richard M. and
Robert B. Sherman, the studio's resident songwriting
team responsible for the hits of Poppins. Despite
that pedigree, and a cast headlined by Fred MacMurray,
Greer Garson, Tommy Steele, Geraldine Page, and,
in their screen debuts, Lesley Anne Warren and John
Davidson, the would-be successor wound up a white
elephant.

Released in 1967, a watershed year for youth culture
and social upheaval, The Happiest Millionaire romanticizes
Philadelphia's upper crust circa 1916. Its title character,
Anthony J. Drexel Biddle (MacMurray), is a militant
industrialist urging America's mobilization against
Germany, and noteworthy for an eccentric lifestyle
that includes his own bible study classes, martial arts
training, and (in a lone nod toward any remotely
modern social values) a readiness to empower his
lovely, headstrong daughter, Cordelia (Warren).

Under Norman Tokar's busy but routine direction,
the project does muster moments of charm, and
packs its story line with enough twists to partly explain
its excessive 144-minute length. But the unintended
irony of paeans to capitalism and conservative politics
in an era of Sgt. Pepper isn't masked by the Shermans'
music, which is eminently forgettable, despite the game
mugging of Tommy Steele as an immigrant Irish butler.
Equally game is MacMurray, but as a singer, he's no Rex
Harrison. --Sam Sutherland

Cast for The Happiest Millionaire:

Fred MacMurray ... Father
Greer Garson ... Mother
Gladys Cooper ... Aunt Mary
Geraldine Page ... Mrs. Duke
Tommy Steele ... John Lawless
Hermione Baddeley ... Mrs. Worth
John Davidson ... Angiev Lesley Ann Warren ... Cordy
Paul Petersen ... Tony
Eddie Hodges ... Livingston
Joyce Bulifant ... Rosemary
Sean McClory ... Police Sgt.
Jim McMullan ... Lt. Powell
William Wellman Jr. ... Lt. Grayson
Aron Kincaid ... Walter Blakely

ONE AND ONLY, GENUINE, ORIGINAL FAMILY BAND(1968):

This has some of the absolute best of actors from
the period: Walter Brennan, Wally Cox, Buddy
Ebsen, Kurt Russell, John Davidson, Leslie Ann
Warren, Richard Deacon & Goldie Hawn!

And on to the movie: The basis of the story revolves
around the Presidential election in 1888 between
Democratic incumbant Grover Cleveland and Republican
challenger Benjamin Harrison(which Harrison lost
but won the elctorates![sound familiar??)! This
centers around a decidedly Democratic family and
the eldest girls boyfriend who's a staunch Republican!
Not the greatesst Disney movie but decent enough! B+

A review from Amazon

"All I know is, the Democrats elected a president, and
the Republicans cheated 'em out of it!" No, this is not a
Michael Moore documentary, but a 1968 Disney musical.
The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band is
probably the best musical comedy set against the 1888
presidential campaign between Grover Cleveland and
Benjamin Harrison. The family band, a bit like American
prairie Von Trapps, settles in the Dakota territory. Problem
is, Grandpappy Walter Brennan is a diehard Democrat,
and Dakota is rife with Republicans, including the suitor
(John Davidson at his dimpledest) to his granddaughter
(Lesley Ann Warren). The score by the Sherman brothers
is not their best, and the "family fare" approach almost
killed Disney films during this era. Nice to see old hoofer
Buddy Ebsen get to dance a bit, and trivia buffs should
note that Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn are first linked
here--he's one of the kids, she's a featured dancer. --Robert Horton

Cast for The One And Only, Genuine, Original Family Band:

Walter Brennan ... Grandpa Bower
Buddy Ebsen ... Calvin Bower
Lesley Ann Warren ... Alice Bower
John Davidson ... Joe Carder
Janet Blair ... Katie Bower
Kurt Russell ... Sidney Bower
Bobby Riha ... Mayo Bower
Jon Walmsley ... Quinn Bower
Smith Wordes ... Nettie Bower (as Smitty Wordes)
Heidi Rook ... Rose Bower
Debbie Smith ... Lulu Bower
Pamelyn Ferdin ... Laura Bower
Wally Cox ... Mr. Wampler
Richard Deacon ... Charlie Wrenn
Goldie Hawn ... Dancer
Steve Harmon ... Ernie Stubbins
