SCI-FI SET #2
Six "classic" sci-fi movies from days of yesteryear!!
RADAR MEN FROM THE MOON(1952)
Commander Cody!! Oh, well! Secondly, Clayton
Moore(The Lone Ranger) as a bad guy!!! Whoda
thunk!! That being said, this is a pretty entertaining
serial, with some decent special effects. The
moon men aren't anything really special. But
there's ray guns, flying suits and rocket ships!
Not a bad way to spend a few hours! B+
A review from IMDb.com:
From my review to The Rocketeer (1991): This
serial made an easy transition to television,
and was played every Saturday - some years
every day - on television throughout the early
1960s. I sat glued whenever it was on. Commando
Cody actually did look like he was flying!
•But more importantly, being the last of the great
serial heroes, writers had learned from previous
mistakes, not to let Cody or his friends - or his
enemies - do any much talking. The serial was just
one fist-fight, shoot-em-up-explosion after another;
but, what made this important is that Cody thus
had no time to doubt, to question, even to pose - he
had to take decisive action at every minute - and
he did! - this was no typical wimp (which by the
mid-'60s were cluttering up comics, books, and films),
this was a Man Of Action! And the second I recall
ever seeing from popular culture (after Eliot Ness
in the Untouchables).
Accept no imitations. - (winner55)

A review from Amazon.com:
Picked this up because it was cheap and gave it a
look and loved it. From the reviews on here there
are some awful copies out there, but mine is fine
and not by Whirlwind. This is a good time and as
'hokey' as it is I really love this serial. - A Customer

A review from Amazon.com:
Dr. Taylor arrives at a beach to investigate
the death cause by a sea monster, the Phantom
from 10,000 Leagues. This sea monster is
protecting/guarding an underwater deposit
of uranium ore. I think the sea monster is
a mutation, created by Dr. Whalen, and is
a cross between a number of different sea
creatures - but what? Eventually, Dr. Whalen
destroys the monster and himself in an explosion.
The movie is not very good, there are no special
effects, and sea monster is even less convincing.
I have had the movie on VHS for a number of years
and just recently purchase it on DVD. The quality
on DVD is no different than that of the VHS version.
There is something about movies like this that
makes me pull it from the back of my library and
watch it every 6 months or so. - Ned "java_ned"

A review from Amazon.com:
I love watching this! Yes, it's cheesy, but it

A review from Amazon.com:
For a movie that was probably made for next
to nothing this is really a pretty good
crime/sci-fi programmer. Director Edgar
Ulmer is famous for making good looking
low budget films and this is one of his best.
Douglas Kennedy is bank robbing safe cracker
Joey Faust sprung from prison by James
Griffith(usually a bad guy in b-Westerns
and tv shows of the period)to steal
radioactive isotopes. Of course to do
this Faust has to become transparent
and is subjected to radioactive bombardment
himself...talk about Faust selling his soul!
Corny, insane, implausible. Yet it somehow
works! The acting is top-notch for this kind
of stuff and the direction is sure-handed.
It's under an hour and ends in a big explosion!
The ALPHA dvd is very good offering a clear
picture at a bargin price. Marguerite (FLIGHT
TO MARS) Chapman, Red Morgan (he's in
Ulmer's BEYOND THE TIME BARRIER, probably
shot around the same time) and Ivan Triesault
the mad scientist here) co-star.
Wonderful, whacky fun, a bit sleezy and well
made! - Richard J. Oravitz
Marguerite Chapman ... Laura Matson
Douglas Kennedy ... Joey Faust
James Griffith ... Maj. Paul Krenner
Ivan Triesault ... Dr. Peter Ulof
Boyd 'Red' Morgan ... Julian (as Red Morgan)
Cormel Daniel ... Maria Ulof
Edward Erwin ... Drake
Jonathan Ledford ... Smith
Norman Smith ... Security Guard
Patrick Cranshaw ... Security Guard
Kevin Kelly ... Woman
Denis Adams ... State Policeman (as Dennis Adams)
Stacy Morgan ... State Policeman
This is a pretty good yarn, tho most of the
A review from an Amazon.com customer:
The plot, the mad scientist, the fiance, the
"cool,daddyo" apartments and clubs, the
cheap strippers, the catfights, the convoluted
plot, the predictable script, the "secret"
lab and of course, the thing all combine
in Perfect Storm fashion for an enjoyably
bad sci-fi/horror film. Well worth owning,
beyond simply seeing!
PS: Be aware that several reviewers, apparently
ignorant of what "review" means, give away the
entire film. - nom-de-nick "nom-de-nick"
