I got this at Hollywood Video when they
were getting rid of all of their VHS tapes,
so this came in two tapes for me! There are
two episodes per VHS tape!
These are broken down into four chapters:
The Wind Chapter
The Fire Chapter
The Dragon Chapter
The Star Chapter
Credits and IMDb review follow all the chapters!
FINAL FANTASY - LEGEND OF THE CRYSTALS #1(1994)
THE WIND CHAPTER:
This is pretty good! Two young adults(?) are
thrown into a mystery about the 4 crystals
around the world! The first one is the Wind
crystal, which they go on a search for, and
while they are on the hunt, it is discovered
that the other three crystals have been snatched!!
Speaking of snatched, there are a lot of panty
shots in this of the young heroine!! I would
give this a solid A, except for the nerve-
grating voices here!! A-
THE FIRE CHAPTER:
Not sure why the title here, as it doesn't
address the fire crystal!! But, whatever!!
In this the duo are captured and this one
is all about their attempts to escape! A-
FINAL FANTASY - LEGEND OF THE CRYSTALS #2(1994)
THE DRAGON CHAPTER:
(I'm not sure why they broke away from the
"Wind, Fire, Earth and Water" routine!!)
At least in this one, the title makes sense!!
Linaly and Prettz are told to search for a
dragon to help them in their quest to recover
the jewels and make the world safe again! A-
THE STAR CHAPTER:
(I'm not sure why they broke away from the
"Wind, Fire, Earth and Water" routine!!)
The finale finds all the troupe banded together
to defeat the evil that has taken Linaly! A pretty
good ending, with a fairly decent final battle
that would please most Final Fantasy fans! A
From IMDb.com:
People tend to give this anime a lot of flack
due to its simple art, simple story and
lighthearted tone, saying it conflicts with
Final Fantasy's "mature, serious" appearance.
Thing is, this is based on Final Fantasy V,
a game known for its humor, and it was
released long before the series made a
name for itself as being "mature and
serious". The animation looks just like
the game art come to life, and is bustling
with action. The music is wonderful
equaling Nobuo Uematsu's game work.
And the story is a simple-yet-engaging
hack-and-slash fantasy adventure that
is fun to watch. The characters are fun
and inventive, the setting is gorgeous...
this is one of those anime that should
be considered a classic, but isn't due
to a number of boneheaded reasons.
If you run across this, PICK IT UP!
It's a great story, and you won't be
disappointed. - Kevin Faultner
