BOND: LICENCE TO KILL(1989)

Bond! James Bond!

Timothy Dalton takes his second, and last, turn at
007, and does a pretty decent job of it! In this one,
Q(Desmond Llewelyn) has a much more active
role and is a lot of fun! Carey Lowell does quite well
as the leading lady here, and the bad guy, Franz
Sanchez(Robert Davi) is pretty well cast! Also, the
second heavy(Milton Krest) was played by Anthony
Zerbe very well!

As an added extra, the great Wayne Newton is in
this also, as a not so honest evangelist(Prof. Joe
Butcher), and gives us a few laughs here!

The only man to reprise the role of Felix Leiter,
David Hedison(my favorite) returns here. He played
Leiter in Live And Let Die!(As it turns out, after Daniel
Craig took over as Bond, Felix was played twice by
Jeffrey Wright, in Casino Royale and Quantum Of
Solace)! This is a much better film than the last one!! A-

Timothy Dalton's second and last shot at playing
James Bond isn't nearly as much fun as his debut,
two years earlier, in the 1987 film The Living Daylights.
This time Bond gets mad after a close friend (David
Hedison) from the intelligence sector is assassinated
on his wedding day, and 007 goes undercover to link
the murder to an international drug cartel. Robert
Davi makes an interesting adversary, but as with
most of the Bond films in the '70s, '80s, and '90s--and
especially since the end of the cold war--one has to
wonder why we should still care about these lesser
villains and their unimaginative crimes. Still, Dalton
did manage in his short time with the character to
make 007 his own, which neither Roger Moore did
nor Pierce Brosnan did. --Tom Keogh
