BOND: VIEW TO A KILL, A(1985)
Bond! James Bond!
After the debacle that was Never Say Never, this was
a great return to the kind of Bond that we all have come
to know and love! Roger Moore returns for his final stint
as 007, and does a great job! As the heavy, we have one
of stardom's most unusual actors, Christopher Walken,
who also does a great job! I'm not a huge fan of Grace
Jones, but she does fine here. And as the love interest,
Tanya Roberts(of TVs Charlie's Angels) does an ok job
but acts pretty silly in some spots!
The most wonderful guest star in this one, however,
absolutely had to be Patrick Macnee(TVs The Avengers!!)
And of course it's great to have back in this the proper
actors in the usual spots(Moneypenny, Q, M)!! All-in-all
a much better film than the last Bond, but not perfect!
One side note, this is the last film for Lois Maxwell as
Miss Moneypenny! Her replacements have been
disappointing! B
A review from Amazon.com:
Roger Moore's last outing as James Bond is evidence
enough that it was time to pass the torch to another
actor. Beset by crummy action (an out-of-control fire
engine?) and featuring a fading Moore still trying to
prop up his mannered idea of style, the film is largely
interesting for Christopher Walken's quirky performance
as a sort-of supervillain who wants to take out California's
Silicon Valley. Grace Jones has a spookily interesting
presence as a lethal associate of Walken's (and who,
in the best Bond tradition, has sex with 007 before trying
to kill him later), and Patrick Macnee (Steed!) has a warm
if brief bit. Even directed by John Glen, who brought
some crackle to the Moore years in the Bond franchise,
this is a very slight effort. --Tom Keogh
