CAPRICORN ONE(1977)
Having lived through the "space race" in the 60s, I had
a second hand view of the pomp and cercumstance that it
brought to this country! This is a play off of the conspiracy
theories that abounded around the moon landing! Did it
actually happen, or was it a sham? That's what this movie
is all about, the sham angle! Some really fine actors in
this: Elliot Gould, James Brolin & Hal Holbrook to name
a few! Robert Walden as Elliot Whitter also puts in a
fine performance as one of the dudes at NASA that has
his doubts about the whole thing!
Things go south on the whole thing when the "astronauts"
decide they are not happy with the decepttin and say they
won't go on with it any more! This puts NASA in a pickle
on what to do with the turn of events! Well told and very
interesting to watch!! B+
A Review From IMDb.com
James Brolin, Sam Waterston and O.J. Simpson are astronauts
on the way to Mars. NASA knows the mission will not be a
success; so the trio is removed from the capsule before the
actual launch. The astronauts are then coerced into playing
a hoax on the watching world.
Fine performances also from Hal Halbrook, Brenda Vaccaro,
Robert Walden and Elliot Gould. Gould actually has the most
exciting scene of the movie. He tries to blow the whistle
on the hoax and someone fixes his car to malfunction.
Interesting movie that gives you something to think
about. - michaelRokeefe
