CARPENTER, JOHN 4 FILM COLLECTION
FOUR MOVIES DIRECTED BY JOHN CARPENTER:
THE THING(1982):
With Kurt Russell(Big Trouble In Little China, Overboard,
Dirty Dancing) and Wilford Brimley(High Road To China,
Cocoon, Cocoon 2, The Wild Wild West Revisited) in this I had
high hopes! Kurt is great, Wilford almost unrecognizable!
Basically about an alien who perhaps crash lands here
on Earth in the Antarctic that terrorizes a science group
and can change its form to look like anything or anyone!
Not terrible, but I'm not a big horror fan so this really
isn't my cup of tea! The ending left room for a sequel
that never materialized! C+
From IMDb.com:
Classic and timeless that is now almost 40 years old.
Great cast and character interaction, and covers the
whole gambit of genre's (sci-fi, action, horror, thriller,
mystery). There are even a few comedy moments, and with
it taking place in Antarctica, it could even be classified
as an adventure. It is one of the most re-watchable movies
ever made. - fullbug

From IMDb.com:
Popular 80s actors, acclaimed director but not much to see
here. So incredibly SLOW. I love b movie horror stuff but
man this is bad. Characters doing every cliche thing like
not knowing where anyone is, not really trying to escape,
not doing much to help one another, etc. Just so disjointed.
I only sat through it hoping it would get better. But it
didn't. - mrn104

A man(Roddy Pipper) is down on his luck and is shown a

the police raid the place and a church nearby and he
discovers some glasses that help him see what's really
going on!! B+
From IMDb.com:
I first saw this in the late 80s on a vhs n enjoyed the
film as an action entertainer. Read about the underlying
themes as years passed on but revisited it today. This
movie is very relevant for today's time too n it is still
very entertaining. The alley fight scene stayed with me
since the late 80s. Roddy Piper n Keith David gave memorable
performances. - Fella_shibby

A remake of the absolute classic from 1960 that was totally
unnecessary!! This does have some really great actor in it:
Chirstopher Reeve(Superman), Mark Hammil(Star Wars), Kirstie
Alley(Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan), and all do a good
job with what they're given, but unfortunately for this
film it had to live up to the original, which was a huge
undertaking! Had the original not been made this would have
been considered a pretty good film! As it is, this is just
unnecessary remake! B
From IMDb.com:
My mother turned on Village of the Damned one evening
because Christopher Reeve was in it. I knew absolutely
nothing about it beyond the fact that there was a movie
by that title. After ten minutes I was completely hooked.
After it was over I thought about it and realized there
were some flaws, but still, while it lasted I was
fascinated. I recommend it. - Gordon-11
