CHARLIE'S ANGELS(2000)
This is disappointing!! While this does have the distinction
of bringing back one of the icons of early tv, John Forsythe,
who is the only returning star from the long running tv show
that this is based on, Charlie's Angels(as Charlie), and also
has one of my favorite all-time actresses, Drew Barrymore,
these are the only great parts of this movie! The story had
merit, and having Bill Murray take over as Bosley(David Doyle
has passed away) was a good casting choice, but unfortunately
the movie was just a little too tongue-in-cheek for me! Also,
I didn't care for most of the music choices here! There are
some good moments, but they are way too few and far
between! This also has the wonderful Matt LeBlanc(Friends)
who does his usual acting role! This is the lowest rating I've
given to a Drew Barrymore movie!!! C+
From IMDb.com:
When Eric Knox (Sam Rockwell), head of a successful
software company, is kidnapped, Charlie and his 'angels',
Natalie (Cameron Diaz), Dylan (Drew Barrymore) and
Alex (Lucy Liu), are hired to rescue the missing man,
unaware that they are merely pawns in a complex
revenge plot.
No matter how dumb this big-screen adaptation of the
'70s TV series gets (and it gets REALLY dumb in places),
I find it hard to hate too much on any film that steadfastly
refuses to take itself seriously, exploits every opportunity
to squeeze its babelicious trio of stars into sexy attire,
delivers several truly ridiculous action scenes, and features
Crispin Glover as a creepy kung-fu kicking villain with a
unique way of smoking a cigarette.
Some of the silliness can start to grate (yes, Tom Green,
I'm talking about you!), but the gratuitous eye-candy
and excessive scenes of mayhem more than make up
for any cringe-worthy moments, best bits being the OTT
opening that quickly establishes the 'anything goes
comic-book tone, Crispin Glover's alleyway brawl with
the girls, Diaz dancing in her pants, and the sexy trio
dressed as German milkmaids (patting each others'
heinies to an Oompah tune).
6.5 out of 10, rounded up to 7 for IMDb. - BA_Harrison

CHARLIE'S ANGELS 2: FULL THROTTLE(2003)
This is actually better than the first one, tho still not a
fantastic movie(as it could have been!)! This has all the
girls returning, but Bill Murray has been replaced with
Jimmy Mac(a horrible choice!!)! Also returning is the
great John Forsythe(as Charlie's voice), and Crispin
Glover as the Thin Man(he does great in this)! The plot's
not bad, the action sequences are pretty good, the music
has its ups and downs and the campiness is a lot less
than the first movie! This also has a couple of great
cameos, the least of which is not Jaclyn Smith(one
of the original Angels, and the only one to be in the
full five year run of Charlie's Angels!), and Bruce Willis!!
Not bad, but coulda been better!! B-
From IMDb.com:
This is a big, shiny, silly, camp summer blockbuster and
I suspect most of the bad reviews are purely because it
dares to make fun of itself in a way that Mission: Impossible,
Die Hard, X-Men and all those dude- dominated action
movies don't.
But really, I have to worry about all those people who
hated this on seeing it. Did they not see the first movie?
Or perhaps they thought the original TV show was a cerebral
example of 1970's TV programming.
The fact is if you liked the 2000 movie, with all the silly
in-jokes, cultural references, campy soundtrack and frankly
ridiculous stunts then you'll enjoy this one just as much.
Maybe more because it also has Demi Moore looking
amazing and a Jaclyn Smith cameo. - ferretpossum
