CLANCY, TOM SET MOVIE PAGE

CLANCY, TOM SET

3 of the 6 Tom Clancy Movies based on the CIA Agent
Jack Ryan were released in a set together! The rest
are all single dvd releases!! These are all excellent
movies and easy to watch over and over! At this time
I only have one other than was in the set, Sum Of All
Fears. The other two are Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit(2014)
and Without Remorse(still in production[2018])!

HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, THE(1990):

The first in the series, this one is starring Alec Baldwin as
CIA Agent Jack Ryan, with Sean Connery as a Russian Commander
of a submarine that appears to be threatening world peace! This
is an excellent movie!! Sean does a great job as a Russian
submarine commander, and Alec Baldwin seems the perfect
Jack Ryan! The sea scenes are beautifully done, the music
perfect for this and the acting superb!! Well worth many
watches!!!! A+

A review from Amazon.com:

Before Harrison Ford assumed the mantle of playing Tom Clancy's
Jack Ryan hero in Patriot Games, Alec Baldwin took a swing at the
character in this John McTiernan film and hit one to the fence. If
less instantly sympathetic than Ford, Baldwin is in some respects
more interesting and nuanced as Ryan, and drawing comparisons
between both actors' performances can make for some interesting
postmovie discussion. That aside, The Hunt for Red October stands
alone as a uniquely exciting adventure with a fantastic costar:
Sean Connery as a Russian nuclear submarine captain attempting
to defect to the West on his ship. Ryan must figure out his true
motives for approaching the U.S. McTiernan (Predator, Die Hard)
made an exceptionally handsome movie here with action sequences
that really do take one's breath away. --Tom Keogh

PATRIOT GAMES(1992):

Harrison Ford takes over as Jack Ryan after retiring as a CIA agent.
On a vacation in London, Ryan is ensnared in the world of terrorism
which not only threatens himself, but his entire family! It's hard to
rate this, because I've never read any of Tom Clancy's books, so I
have no reference point! Not only that, but we here in America
have very little understanding of the conflict between Northern
Ireland and England! That all being said, this is a great movie!
Well acted, well scripted and great music that is quite appropriate
for the theme here! A

A review from Amazon.com:

Let's see--he's been Han Solo in three films and Indiana Jones in
three more. So why shouldn't Harrison Ford take on a new continuing
character in Tom Clancy's CIA analyst Jack Ryan? In this film, directed
by Phillip Noyce, Ford picked up the baton when Alec Baldwin, who
played Ryan in The Hunt for Red October, opted for a Broadway role
instead. In this film, Ryan and his family are on vacation when Ryan
saves a member of the British royal family from attack by Irish terrorists.
The next thing he knows, the Ryan clan has been targeted by the same
terrorists, who invade his Maryland home. The film can't shed all of
Clancy's lumbering prose, or his techno-dweeb fascination with spy
satellites and the like. But no one is better than Ford at righteous
heroism--and Sean Bean makes a suitably snakey
villain. --Marshall Fine er

J.E. Freeman ... Marty Cantor

Hugh Fraser ... Geoffrey Watkins
David Threlfall ... Insp. Robert Highland
Alun Armstrong ... Sgt. Owens

CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER(1994):

This is incredibly good!! Ford plays the Clancy CIA agent Jack
Ryan for the second time, and does a bang up job of it! He's
caught between what's right and some of the highest political
people in the US! The president is up in arms about the drug
problems caused by the Cartel in South America and by no
direct word authorizes a strike against them! Ryan gets in
the middle and has to clear his and others names! Excellent
movie! A+

A review from Amazon.com:

The third installment in the cinematic incarnation of Tom
Clancy's CIA analyst Jack Ryan and the second starring Harrison
Ford, this follow-up to Patriot Games is a more complex, rewarding,
and bolder film than its predecessor. Ford returns as Ryan, this
time embroiled in a failed White House bid to wipe out a Colombian
drug cartel and cover up the mess. The script, by Clancy and John
Milius (Red Dawn), has an air of true adventure about it as Ryan
places himself in harm's way to extract covert soldiers abandoned
in a Latin American jungle. There are a couple of remarkable set
pieces expertly handled by Patriot Games director Phillip Noyce,
especially a shocking scene involving an ambush on Ryan's car in
an alley. The supporting cast is superb, including Willem Dafoe as
the soldiers' leader, Henry Czerny as Ryan's enemy at the CIA,
Joaquim de Almeida as a smooth-talking villain, Ann Magnuson
as an unwitting confederate in international crime, and James
Earl Jones as Ryan's dying boss. The DVD release has a widescreen
presentation, theatrical trailer, closed captioning, optional French
soundtrack, and optional Spanish subtitles. --Tom Keogh

Cast of Clear And Present Danger:

Harrison Ford ... Jack Ryan
Willem Dafoe ... John Clark
Anne Archer ... Cathy Muller Ryan
Joaquim de Almeida ... Col. Felix Cortez
Henry Czerny ... Robert Ritter
Harris Yulin ... James Cutter
Donald Moffat ... President Bennett
Miguel Sandoval ... Ernesto Escobedo
Benjamin Bratt ... Captain Ramirez
Raymond Cruz ... Domingo Chavez
Dean Jones ... Judge Moore
Thora Birch ... Sally Ryan
Ann Magnuson ... Moira Wolfson
Hope Lange ... Senator Mayo
Tom Tammi ... FBI Director Emile Jacobs

SUM OF ALL FEARS, THE(2002):

Another new Jack Ryan!! While I was very dubious
about Ben Aflack playing an iconic figure like Ryan
he actually does a pretty good job! This is a "prequel"
which explains why no Mrs. Ryan, no kid ect!

As for the story, it revovles around an old neuclear
bomb from Isreal being found and radicals using it
to try to start a war between the U.S. and Russia!!

I'm not really a fan of prequels, but this really
isn't bad! Just hard to see Ben in the iconic roll
that Harrison made famous, not to mention Alec! A-

A review from IMDb.com:

As usual, I am very glad I saw the movie BEFORE I read the
reviews on this site. Why do soooo many reviewers here have
to compare the movie to the book? A book allows 300-400
pages (or more) to develop plots and characters. We are
reviewing movies on IMDb, not books. I guess reviewers
here want to appear erudite by scraping up details from
the book that get omitted or distorted on the screen. I
am a very active reader, but I simply cannot read every
book that makes it to the movie theatres. Writing a book
(a fairly isolated event) is a significantly different event
than producing a movie which involves countless people
and issues: screenwriters, actors, writers, directors,
production people, locations, etc., etc. Making all these
book to movie comparisons isn't fair to the movie or
the book. Many times I just want to watch a movie and
judge it on its merits alone - as a movie, period. I did
not read this book, but I watched the movie and found
it very entertaining and extremely absorbing. - readerguy
