CLASSIC SCI-FI ULTIMATE COLLECTION #2, THE
Five sci-fi movies from the past! Surprisingly

DR. CYCLOPS(1940)
see this in color!! A mad scientist(is there
any other kind in these kind of movies?)
comes up with a reducing ray and uses it
on some other folks who happen to get in
his way! B+
A review from IMDb.com:
Albert Dekker plays the quietly insane mad
scientist who makes one of the greatest
discoveries in the history of mankind- how
to shrink people. Unfortunately, a group
of busy bodies stumble across his secret
and can only see the commercial value of
his huge radium deposit. What's a mad
scientist to do? Shrink them, of course.
Dekker is great as the amoral technocrat
who sees his tormenters as nothing more
than throw away subjects for his research.
Nice, quiet, solid film with an undercurrent
of evil personified by the sadistic
Cyclops. - jimbo-38

A review from IMDb.com:
I really like this movie, but most reviews
that I see seem to trash it. It has an
excellent cast of B movie stars, who are
probably trying at this time to get recognition.
They are Faith Domergue, Richard Long, David
Janssen, Jack Kelly and Marshall Thompson.
Here is a quick synopsis of the movie:
Stationed in Asia, six American G.I.'s
witness the secret ritual of Lamians
(worshipers of women who change into
serpents). When discovered by the cult,
the High Lamain Priest vows that the Cobra
Goodess will avenge herself. Once back
in the U.S., a mysterious woman enters
into their lives and accidents begin to
happen. The shadow of a cobra is seen
before each death. - ash-79

A review from IMDb.com:
A rip-roaring sci-fi adventure that has quite
a lot going for it: a novel premise, a
square-jawed hero, a lovely blond heroine,
and several dinosaurs presented in a bizarre
landscape.
Universal's ace effects artist Clifford Stine
did a terrific job. The sets are also
remarkable. The film's explanation for
the presences of a tropical prehistoric
world in the frozen Antarctic is intelligent
and plausible. The character don't act like
stereo-types, so the plot avoids being
predictable. Be kind when you view the
dinosaurs; they serve the story well,
despite the fact that they're puppets,
men in suits, and enlarged lizards.
If at all possible, see the wide-screen
version. There's nothing worse than watching
a dinosaur's mid-section attack somebody
off-screen because the dino's head and
tail have been cut - David_Newcastle

Shirley Patterson ... Margaret Hathaway (as Shawn Smith)
William Reynolds ... Lt. Jack Carmen

A review from IMDb.com:
The Deadly Mantis is a fine example of the
best of the 1950's vintage science fiction
movies. A good story line with enjoyable
character interaction. The movies use of
documentary footage to introduce scientific
or geographic fact into the setting of the
fiction was classic 50's. I actual learned
something about the multi-million dollar
"DEW" Line. Today's modern viewer may complain
about the special effects, but remember that
the movie was made in 1957 not 1997. With
that in mind, rent the movie, pretend you're
at the drive-in, and have an enjoyable
evening. - Pike-6
Craig Stevens ... Col. Joe Parkman
William Hopper ... Dr. Nedrick Jackson
Alix Talton ... Marge Blaine
Donald Randolph ... Maj. Gen. Mark Ford
Pat Conway ... Sgt. Pete Allen
Florenz Ames ... Prof. Anton Gunther
Paul Smith ... Corporal
Phil Harvey ... Lou
Floyd Simmons ... Army Sergeant
Paul Campbell ... Lt. Fred Pizar
Helen Jay ... Mrs. Farley
How DOES she keep her youthful appearace?!
A review from IMDb.com:
While traveling through the African wilderness,
an aging woman discovers the secret of youth,
but she will have to kill to stay young.
A clever story and an outstanding performance
from Coleen Gray uplifts this old B thriller.
You've gotta give Leech Woman a little more
credit for being a drive-in movie from the
late 50's that doesn't rely upon some 'monster'
to drive it. Leech Woman is instead a more
thoughtful thriller that examines a woman's
desperation. It's low budget indeed, but
does have some decent makeup FX, a nice music
score, and a better-than-average cast to
hold it together.
