DRIVE-IN CULT CLASSICS SET
This set has a bunch of "cult classic" movies as seen
in the drive-ins across America! Some are good with
good actors, some are bad with bad actors, some are
bad with good actors, and, well you get the idea!
CINDY AND DONNA(1970):
viewing all the others, I expected two things, murder
and nudity! Weeeeell, this had plenty of one and none
of the other!! There is a death, but not by murder! And
this had A LOT of nudity!! Story was nearly non-existant,
acting was unnecessary, and the quality of the video
was surprisingly good! All that being said, this is no
more than a sexploitation movie and as such it was very
good! As a movie to be enjoyed as story, not so much! C
From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
This was a great period movie. My mom and dad took
me to the drive inn movies at Paintsville KY in 1971
and this was playing. They had no idea it was an adult
film. When the first nude scene played we left and they
were red faced. When I turned 18 the movie was playing
at the Trail Drive Inn in Flatwoods KY and I went to see it.
I really liked it. I wish they made more movies like this
today. The acting was very good and I often wonder
what happened to the stars of the film and if I can buy it
on DVD. If anyone out there knows of where to buy this
film on DVD please put up a post as I would really like
to have this film in my collection. - danhughes61

The title is very deceiving!! The step-mother
From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
It isn't so much that The Stepmother is a
weird story--it could be the plot of any
made-for-cable late night erotic thriller.
But the way the story unfolds feels unusual,
and that--along with some hammy acting--is
probably why this movie has been largely
forgotten.
The main character looks like a younger Al
Pacino after two months with no sleep. The
movie gets right to the action before we
even know who any of these people are. The
characters explain everything eventually,
but for a while, we don't really know their
backgrounds or their relationships to each
other. Not that it's complicated, but you
expect to know something about Frank
before he strangles the guy messing around
with his wife.
Even the ending is handled strangely. Moments
before the credits roll, things happen that
seem to set up another half hour of drama,
but then the conclusion hammers down,
and we are deprived of the conflict that
the story seemed to be building towards.
I found The Stepmother on an 8-movie
collection called "Drive-In Cult Classics" for
only $7 at Best Buy. This was the first of the
eight I watched, and it was exactly what I was
looking for: low budget, goofy, obscure 70's
trash. I didn't think it was all that good, but
as a fan of bad movies, I enjoyed it. - jfgibson73

From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
A hot-looking female teacher seduces a student
while a psycho stalks them. In plot that is not
grounded in reality, the most implausible element
is that this beautiful teacher practically throws
herself at the doofus student but he avoids her
like a scared puppy. Former child star North is
terrible as the clueless student. Tompkins, a
B-movie actress of the 1970s, is gorgeous and
sexy as the "older" woman trying to impart carnal
knowledge. She also gives a pretty good performance
and is the main reason for watching this low-budget
film. James is creepy as the psycho, but serves
more as comic relief than as a scary villain. - njha

From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
As the first movie I have seen out of the 32-pack
of "Drive-In Cult Classics" by Mill Creek, I have to
admit I was pleasantly surprised. Joseph Ruben would
continue directing for the next 30 years after this
debut film, and it's no surprise as you can see his
talent, especially when compared to a lot of the
other trash that was being made at that time.
Everything about this movie fits perfectly into
the drive-in formula (softcore nudity/sex, etc),
but it doesn't use these as a crutch, rather stands
well on its own as a story. The script leaves a little
something to be desired in terms of character depth,
but Ruben tried to layer them, and the audience
is treated to a clever twist. Definitely not a great
movie, but not a terrible one and by far one of
the better in the genre. - Chris Haskell (cwhaskell@gmail.com)

This has Richard Hatch, of Battlestar Galactica fame!
From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
Two friends since childhood named "Jesse" (Richard Hatch)
and "Pat" (Doug Chapin) get out of the army and decide
to rent a mobile home and tour a part of the country
with their girlfriends "Kathy" (Susanne Benton) and
"Jo Ella" (Ann Noland). Although Jesse loves Kathy
and wants to get married, Pat desperately wants things
to remain the same. Soon his fears get the best of him
and he tries everything he can think of to cause Jesse
and Kathy to break up. Now, rather than reveal what
happens next and possibly ruin the film for those who
haven't seen it I will just say that for a low-budget
drive-in type of movie this wasn't too bad. And while
there were some parts that were a little slow and I
would have preferred a bit more action or passion
it still kept my interest for the most part. Having said
that, although it certainly isn't a great movie by any
means I didn't think it was that bad either. If anything
I would rate it as about average. - Uriah43

Really strange movie! You watch what happens
From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
I am beginning to think that I wasted my money on
the Drive-In Cult Classics set!!!! This is the third
movie that I watched from this 8-pack set and they
are just getting worse and worse. I am not expecting
academy award winners but I was expecting something
at least watchable. The only good thing about this
movie was the cool bus!!! I've seen hotter soft core
porn on the late night Oxygen Channel show "Bliss".
I do have to admit that the two lead women are 70's
exploitation HOTTIES and that's why I'm giving this
film 2 stars for obviously naked reasons. I sure do hope
these movies in this set get better. - toyman1967

Extremely predictable movie about a bunch of
From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
When I picked this out to watch, I was expecting
a cheesy Sexploi movie loaded with nudity and bad
acting. Instead I was surprised with a rather intriguing
film that grabbed my attention from the beginning
and held it through out. It's not Oscar material or
anything, like most low budget movies of it's time
it suffers a little in some departments but this is
a truly good film.
The acting overall is good, although Zalman King,
Robert Gribbin and Robert Porter certainly steal
the show. Zalman King in the character of Al is
entirely believable as a psychopath and more so,
he fits perfectly in the image of the insane drifter
that these types of movies created. Even Jack Driscoll
who looks cheesy as all get out, is entirely believable
at his most critical moment in the film and Brenda
Fogarty comes across perfectly as the prissy,
controlling school teacher. The weakest acting
in the movie is on the part of the school girls,
but that shouldn't surprise anyone who watches
seventies exploitation movies.
The film has excellent drama, it draws you in
and keeps you watching. As the movie progressed
I found myself understanding the emotions of Pete,
sticking by his brother through thick and thin,
wondering what Jay would do as the situation
worsened and wondering if the bus driver would
try to stand up when the time came. I had my
suspicions as to how things would go and I was
surprised time and time again. As the end of
the movie neared, I honestly wondered if any
of the girls would get out alive or if the "bad
guys" would win.
It's worth noting that the version I saw was listed
as "Uncut". What was cut in the theatrical release
I'm not sure. In the uncut version there is surprisingly
little nudity (although there is some), not a whole lot
of foul language and no blood that I can recall.
There are couple of wince worthy scenes and of
course the rape scenes but nothing that I could
imagine would be to bad to show in theaters.
One thing that really mystifies me is why this
movie has such a low rating here at IMDb.
Sexploi and exploitation in general are usually
niche genre's, that's no surprise. But can all
the people who rated this movie so low really
not see anything in it? Did they even watch it?
It surprised the hell out of me to see this movie
sitting at only two stars. It deserves so much
better and I would recommend it to anyone
who likes the genre. - DVDZombie

From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
This film is really a surprise and not in a good way. It's
about an alienated teenage girl who starts to lose respect
for everything when her boyfriend dumps her. Rather
than turn to drugs or cults, she turns to murder. It's
incredible how quickly the change happens. Sounds like
it might be entertaining on a trashy level but's it so
amateurishly made, downbeat and cheap looking that
it fails to impress. It is however somewhat amusing to
watch as the main female character paints herself
further and further into a corner and the unhappy men
she leaves behind due to her very promiscuous
behavior. - (cfc_can@yahoo.com)
