ELVIS: GIRL HAPPY!(1965):
While this is a real no-brain movie, it has the very
good fortune of having some really great co-stars:
Shelly Fabres(The Donna Reed Show) is as cute as
can be as always, though it was a little disappointing
that she didn't get to sing very much in this; Gary
Crosby(Bing's son) along with the rest of the main
boys that "play" in the band with Elvis actually lend
to the story! And Harold J. Stone is great as
Big Frank, Shelly's father!
The songs are rather lacking in this, except for
the title song and the VERY cute song, Puppet
On A String!
An aside here: the reviewer below isn't 100%
correct in his overview of the movie! Elvis and
crew are not forced to go to Ft. Lauderdale!
They already had planned on going, and had
to con Big Frank into letting them out of the
gig in his joint for a while so they could go! B+

Elvis Presley does the clam--a now-forgotten
dance--in this 1964 potboiler in which the King
stars as a singer who gets a gig in Ft. Lauderdale
with his combo but has to baby-sit a mobster's
teenage daughter (Shelley Fabares) as part of
the deal. Fabares's character, looking for a
break, runs wild and makes life difficult for
Elvis. The film has the usual "Elvis movie"
bounce and wolfish jokes and glossy disposability,
but the endearing (and smart) presence of
Fabares as the love interest adds a bit more
zip than usual. Songs include the title track,
plus "Puppet on a String," "Do Not Disturb,"
and "Let's Party Tonight." Directed by Boris
