ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK(1981):
This is a great action film starring the wonderful Kurt
Russell as Snake Plissken, a dude that is headed to NY
City prison! But he gets a reprieve when the President's
(Donald Pleasence) plane crashes and he is held captive
in the penal city! With Ernest Borgnine's help as a cabbie
in the city, he only has a certain amount of time to pull
off a rescue! A-
From IMDb.com:
Although not as fast-paced or well-lit as its sequel, Escape
from LA, this movie works on the level that it is futuristic,
without being TOO futuristic, and the main character is
likeable, while being tough at the same time. Whether you
like Kurt Russell or not, it seems that he was made for the
part of Snake Plissken. One of its highest points is its theme
song. It really gets your adrenaline going, and that is one
of the most important factors of movies. Available on DVD.
Sequel, Escape from LA, filmed 15 years after the original
also available on DVD. - Daniel

I'd like to say right off the top that this is every bit as good a
movie as the first one!! I'd like to, but that would be lying!!
lol! While not even close to the coolness and originality of the
first "Escape From" movie, it sill has some merit! Just don't expect
too much here! The only two real name players are Kurt Russell,
of course, and Cliff Robertson, with special mention to Peter
Fonda. If you watch the first one, then this is pretty much a
must watch! Again, tho, don't expect the same greatness! B-
From IMDb.com:
Greetings from Lithuania.
"Escape from L.A." (1996) is an ultimate flick with one of the
screen bad asses - Snake Plissken himself. This is a great action/
sci-fi flick that features a lot of action, very cool settings and
a simple yet entertaining plot. Kurt Russel once again star in
a underrated but iconic role of the 80's hero, or in this case
maybe antihero, as Snake Plissken never was a "save the
universe" type of a guy, he as well as John Macklane were
dudes that always were in the middle of events that they
didn't want it to be.
There are cool special effects, great cameos, cartoonish
but cool for the flick characters and so on.
Overall, "Escape from L.A." is a very cool and unfortunately
underrated gem from 90's. It features everything that pure
escapism picture could have. Do your self a favor and check
this picture - 2 hours of pure escapism is a guaranty. - 851222
