THE EXPENDABLES:(2010)
This is a very deep movie, with world impacting dialogue,
plot, script and acting!!! Ok, enough of the jokes!! The only
reason for this movie is for the action, which there is a Hell
of a lot of! It has a lot of the action movie heavyweights in
it, including Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger in
VERY short roles, Sylvester Stallone(who got the whole
group together!), Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture,
Steve Austin, Jason Statham and Mickey Rourke!
I was very, very fortunate to get to see this in its debut
at Planet Hollywood here in Las Vegas, in which several
of the actors were here, including Sly, Dolph, Randy, Jason
and(for a very short time)Arnold(he was called back to
Sacramento for some sort of government issue)!! It was
an amazing night and everyone there had a great time!!
All that being said, after having the opportunity to view
this on dvd at home I have discovered that this really wasn't
as great a movie as I remembered! I'm sure the ambience
of being with all the great actors there made an impact on
my original assessment of this movie! But in truth, the plot
was quite thin, and the acting(?) wasn't very good at all!!
Still, as I said earlier, this wasn't a deep movie! Just a lot
of bullets flying and blood flowing! And some really great
music!! All-in-all, a great action flick!! B+
From IMDb.com:
In 2010, Sylvester Stallone has the idea to take every current
and former action star, and put them into a series of movies.
The goal was to create the biggest, wildest, most expensive
action movies ever made, and have them feature every big
name action star from the past 30 years. The studio was so
much behind the idea, that not only did they give Stallone
a huge budget, but they also approved a sequel, before the
first film was even in theaters. It took me 5 years to watch
this movie, because I honestly didn't think it was going to
work. There is an old saying about having too many cooks in
the kitchen, and while trying to include everyone was admirable,
I couldn't imagine it working, I was wrong. Stallone leads a
freelance para-military organization known as the expendables.
These guys work for the highest bidder and do things the
government can't. In the first installment of the now billion
dollar franchise, the expendables are tasked with stopping
a coup on a Caribbean island. If the rival organization takes
control, the island would be the largest manufacture of
illegal narcotics in the world, and would be impossible to
stop, enter the expendables. Sylvester Stallone may be a
senior citizen now and still somewhat hard to understand,
but when it comes to action movies, you'd be hard pressed
to find a better leader. His second in command is currently
the largest action star in the world, Jason Statham. Even
after seeing hundreds of action movies, including most of
Statham's, the guy continues to impress me at every turn.
All the strange accents make for an interesting mix of
dialogue, but that aside, the story is good, the fight scenes
are better, and the special effects are amazing. The
Expendables was billed as THE action film to see and it
does not disappoint. - Tss5078

A much better film than the first, this one again has
some of the greatest names in action movie history(Sly
Stone, Arnold Swarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Jason
Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van
Damme & Randy Couture)! Still a pretty thin plot, but still
better than the first one, this one again is action driven
the whole way through!
One of the things that make this better is that Bruce
and Arnold both have bigger roles in this! And it's really
great to see all three of them together toward the end
in a really cool(albeit impossible) scene where they are
battling together!
Never meant to be "Gone With The Wind", this is non-the-
less every bit as entertaining! Not great dialogue, but
again better than the first! And the action is really top
notch!! I thought this was great!! A
From IMDb.com:
(76%) While the original gave about half its exciting
potential, this goes a touch further. The cast is just
as overstuffed, the action even more overblown, and
the plot is just as thin. Where this goes further is
actually including Bruce Willis and Arnie in the action,
which was something badly missing from the first
instalment. The action in general is good, if a little
tiring, and the fake CGI blood could have been toned
down a little for more practical effects, but this still
delivers more than enough thrills. Van Damme is a
good addition as the main bad guy, even if the
writing is too lacking for this to hook a universal
audience, but as something for fans of action flicks
this is something to savour. - Adam Peters

First one was good, second one was great, this one, a
little under par, imo! The biggest issue with me is, of
course, what everyone else has said: I watch these movies
for the action and stuff you just don't get in other movies!
I also want to see the greats of the past doing what they
did best in the films that made them famous: Sly Stallone's
Rambo, Arnold Schwarzenegger's Terminator, Jason Stathem's
Frank Martin from Transporter, Dolph Lundgren's Frank Castle
from Punisher, Randy Couture from the UFC!
Unfortunately, there is a large block of this movie(from
about 15 minutes in to the last 20 minutes or so) in which
these great action men are not in the film!! This was a big
mistake in my humble opinion!! The young guns brought in
to take their place weren't bad, but they just weren't what
I wanted to see here! All-in-all, a decent enough action
movie, just not particularly a great Expendables movie! B
From IMDb.com:
I think THE EXPENDABLES franchise peaked with number
two in the series - a great, rip-roaring action flick of
yesterday, complete with a crazed Van Damme and one-liners
aplenty. This third outing is a step down from that, and
it's actually worse than the original as well, although not
without its moments.
The main issue with THE EXPENDABLES 3 is that the script
gives over much of the screen time to a young, inexperienced
bunch of 'new' expendables, played by no-name actors. I
don't know about you, but I want to see Arnie, Jet Li &
Dolph Lundgren kicking it up on-screen, not a group of
people I don't know and have no interest in. Other than
that, it's business as usual, although there are fewer
one-liners here...which is a shame, as the ones that are
present work very nicely.
Other decent elements of the film include a couple of
new, appropriate faces in the form of Antonio Banderas
and (in particular) Wesley Snipes, who bags a wicked
tax evasion joke early on. As in MACHETE KILLS, Mel
Gibson makes for a fine villain, and the film really picks
up in the last half hour with one of those all-out-action
climaxes that reminded me of the likes of COMMANDO. I
enjoyed it overall, even while noting that it's not quite
of the calibre of previous entries. - Leofwine_draca

This series has gone downhill since E2! Big problems here
is that most of the original gang is missing! And the
replacements are not great! Sly is in this but only
for about 20 minutes, the rest of the way is carried
by Stathum and the rest!! The gist of the story is
that someone has storlen enough plutonium and other
parts to make a neuclear bomb and the crew are tasked
with stopping an explosion!! B
From IMDb.com:
Fun film for B or A- action film. Director was poor in camera
work. Seriously stop the shaky cam. It's annoying. Fox maybe
her worst acting job... which is saying a lot being such a
mediocre actress anyway. However, if you like Meg this movie
is more or less good for you.
I recommend low expectations as at best a popcorn action film.
No crazy plot or insane action. Really typical action with a
little over the top unrealistic action sequences we have come
to know with this serious. I enjoyed the movie for what it
was but I can understand why there is likely not going to be
a 5th. I think the magic is pretty much gone. - mablakeyack
