FIRST SPACESHIP ON VENUS
(AKA: DER SCHWEIGENDE STERN)(1960)
In the set: 100 Greatest Sci-Fi Classics
A film from East Germany(remember, this was 1960)!
It was pretty much changed around to be an English
film!
The world discovers a spool(I'm assuming they're
referencing a magnetic spool of tape) which they
deduce came from Venus! They decide to make an
expedition to the planet to find out who/what/why
etc.!!!
This is actually an engrosing movie, with
decent SFX! C+
A review from IMDb.com:
An AMAZING film given the year it came out-from
a story by Stanislaw Lem, THE ASTRONAUTS... the
story seems a little slow and stilted at first,
but the ideas and the Special Effects are
wonderful, including some of the sets showing
the devastated surface of Venus as seen thru
their 'chariot'. Maltin claims that a whole
lot of this film was cut to be shown in the
USA...would love to see a restored
version... - seashellz
