Three of the Gidget movies! These starred Sandra Dee
(Gidget), Deborah Walley(Goes Hawaiian) and Cindy Carol
(Goes To Rome)!! The only person to be in all of the
movies is James Darren(actor[Time Tunnel, Star Trek:
DS9 as Vic Fontane, T.J. Hooker]and singer[Goodbye
Cruel World, Her Royal Majesty, Gidget])!
GIDGET SET
GIDGET(1959):
This disc is damaged somehow(not noticable) and acts
like it's going to quit working a lot!
There's nearly no plot at all here, just about dudes
surfing and a girl trying to fit in! B
A review from IMDb.com:
Likable teenage soap about a tomboy (Sandra Dee) who falls
for a beach bum (James Darren) while discovering her love
for surfing. This is not at all a comedy and I'm not sure
why it's listed that way, here and everywhere else you look.
It doesn't even try to be funny outside of some of the surfer
dudes' lines. It's a relic of its time and youth culture.
Similar to the Frankie & Annette Beach Party movies, but
without the singing and not as much fun. Sandra Dee's
adorableness carries the whole movie. Inspired a later
TV series starring Sally Field that I liked a lot as a
kid. - utgard14

Surprisingly better than the first "Gidget" movie with
Sandra Dee! In this one Deborah Walley takes over as
Gidget and does a great job! The Hawaaian atmosphere
is pretty and of course James Darren as "Moondoggie",
the only constant thoughout the film series, is his
usual self, singing a couple of tunes! The Groups here
are more than just an added attraction as they play
major roles in this fun little move!! A-
A review from IMDb.com:
In my honest opinion,Deborah Walley was the definitive gidget.
I also believe this was the best of the movies.
The supporting cast is really terrific, and although it may
seem a little dated and corny,if you watch it with an open
mind, it is definitely entertaining.
Peggy Cass gives the film's true standout performance as
the mother of Gidget's nemesis. - luke-31

Oh, my, this is BORING!!! The only saving grace is the
very few songs that James does(which are quite good!)!
I had to fight throught the whole thing, though I
will say the beauty of Rome does help! B-
From a reviewer at IMDb.com:
Before the "Gidget" franchise got a shot in the arm
via television (with young Sally Field in the title
role), she trudged along theatrically, here with Cindy
Carol in the lead. 17-year-old Frances Lawrence goes
on a chaperoned trip to Italy with boyfriend and gal-pals
in tow. Slick but artificial mixture of on-location
tourist's folly and set-bound situation comedy isn't
at all interesting, despite the efforts by veteran comedy
writer Ruth Brooks Flippen. The teens seem tired, Carol
exudes very little charisma, and only Don Porter is
engaging playing Gidget's dad, a role he filled even
more comfortably a few years later on
TV. *1/2 from **** - moonspinner55
