BRIDES OF DRACULA, THE(1960):
This is done very Gothic style, and the castle
rich in color!! A young woman is headed to a girls
school to take up a positiion there as a teacher
when she gets waylaid and winds up in a castle with
an elderly lady who's son is locked up in a part
of the castle that no one else is to go to!! She
does, and ends up letting loose a curse on the
whole town!! Most of it was good, especially as
I mentioned above, the castle!! Otherwise, something
just seems to be missing here(perhaps Dracula!!!)!! C+
From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
This movie starts out really good... enter
Van Helsing and it stays a good movie for
awhile then somewhat goes down hill. The ending
was OK - I liked the idea of the windmill - in
fact that is very creepy! To me the movie hits
a lull around 50 min to an hour into the film
but does pick back up in the end.
David Peel was pretty good as Baron Meinster
but just not very convincing as a vampire IMO.
Martita Hunt is ideal for the role of Baroness
Meinster - she is quite good in this movie.
Yvonne Monlaur was very pleasing to watch as
Marianne. And Peter Cushing is, once again,
smashing as Doctor Van Helsing.
Just some random thoughts on the title of
the film because the title is a bit
disappointing - yes The Brides of Dracula
does fit it to a degree because as they
basically said in the beginning narration
that Dracula is dead but his brood is still
around but maybe a title like "Meinster Manor",
"Castle Meinster" or even "The Baron" would
have fit the film better. But I guess they
needed "Dracula" in the title to help tie
in Dr. Van Helsing's part. Hummm... why
does a film that surrounds Dracula have
to have his name in the title? Personally
I would have liked to see this title
reserved for Dracula's 3 brides.
Anyway, I would have rated the film higher
except for the fact there was a bit of a
30 minute lull.

This has a really different twist to the Werewolf
From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
This is a pretty good old werewolf film... it's
not that bad. This one he looks more like a Wolf
Man (similar to Lon Chaney, Jr.) than the more
modern werewolf.
Curse of the Werewolf has a very interesting
film beginning of how Leon's parents met, what
happened to them, how he was born and taken
in to be cared for. The story hits a little
bit of a low for a few minutes but then picks
back up around 50 minutes into it.
This is a great late night popcorn flick... it's
a bit interesting and can be enjoyed by fans
of older horror films.

This is a great little action/adventure movie!!
From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
Night Creatures AKA Captain Clegg
I found this to be a pretty neat melodrama... a
good period piece. Lots great Gothic imagery.
Peter Cushing he's great as always this time
as Rev. Dr. Blyss, same can be said for Oliver
Reed who plays Harry Cobtree. The rest of the
cast is good as well.
It's an interesting story - there is a mystery
as well as to who or what the Marsh Phantoms
are so it's not just a straight horror film.
The film is worth watching if you like any
of the other Hammer Horror films.

From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
Pretty good film version of the story. I've
never read the book so I cannot compare to
it but I can compare it to other film versions
and on it's on merit. I'd say watch it if you
get the chance - it's good.
This version is not all that creepy but it
does have atmosphere, good casting and overall
enjoyable. It's similar to the Phantom of the
Opera (1943) with Claude Rains in a way but
not as scary as it or The Phantom of the Opera
(1925) with Lon Chaney (which is the scariest).
If you like the Phantom '25, Phantom '43 or
any of the other Hammer Horror films then give
Phantom '62 a view... not as good but definitely
worth the watch.

Hammer takes another classic horror star and
From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
This has got to be the most boring and unscary
vampire film I have ever seen. The only scene
worth watching is the opening scene which lasts
maybe 5 minutes after that it is all down hill.
Nothing happens after the opening scene except
one part where a man is bitten by a vampire and
then the ending. The movie is 88 minutes long
and out of that only 10 minutes of it is worth
watching - if that long. I'm all for subtle
horror but this movie really does not have
it - it's just a bunch of dressed up people
standing around talking about nothing throughout
most of the film. I was bored to tears with
this movie.
The ONLY thing this movie has going for it
is the theme music - and that is it! The
music is the only reason to rate this film
besides the fact that it is a Hammer and
Universal film.
Update: I've rewatched this one again, and
I will raise my rating up 2 points. It's a
little better the second time around but I'm
still finding I'm bored with it generally
speaking. I really want to like this film
but I'm still finding it just *meh*.

From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
This one is one of Hammer's better films... it
is horror but more of a good dramatic mystery.
The film does take a few twists and turns but
it's not hard to figure out... it's how the
movie mystery plays out that makes it so good.
I have to agree with another reviewer this
film almost an A film rather than a B. It's
beautifully filmed, well acted, good story... it's
a film I would definitely recommend to mystery
lovers.
Oliver Reed is gorgeous in this film and really
just good to watch on screen as Simon Ashby.
This is one of his better films.

This one is not as great as the other Frankenstein
From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
This film like but not as well as parts 1, 2, and
5 of the Cushing Frankenstein series. It is a good
film I just liked it a little less - it's the story
of this film I liked a little less than the others.
This film is a continuation of the story of Dr.
Frankenstein, it pick up were part 2 left off.
Everyone was good in this film -- but it was Peter
Cushing that really carried this one all the way
through more so than anything thing else.
I definitely recommend this film to others that
have enjoyed other Hammer Horror films and/or
Peter Cushing's movies. It's worth it.

From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
This one has a great Gothic atmosphere of
madness - complete insanity. It really a
dark, bleak film... you will not find a
subtle joke nor a smile in this film.
Where does the nightmare end and reality
begin? What or who has driven Janet into
maddening nightmares and why? If you like
a good creepy mystery-thriller then this
is a film you should enjoy.
I consider this film for a "dark and stormy
night" - it's one of those type of movies.
I can't say much about this movie because
if I did it might ruin it for the first
time viewer.
