THREE MOVIES STARRING TOM HANKS:

MONEY PIT, THE(1986):

Talk about your housing nightmares!!! Tom and
new wife Shelly Long invest in a new(?) house to
start their family life together. Not all plans come
together smoothly!! lol!! Tom and Shelly work
off each other perfectly, and throwing in Alexander
Godunov as Max is well planned out! Pretty
funny in spots, and pretty tedious in others,
but all in all a good movie, but only worth a
watch every 10 years or so!! B

are the two films I turn to when I need a serious
pick-me-up. It's nice to know that no "bad" day
can ever be as bad as theirs!

It's rather dated, as all 80's things are, but well
worth a look. In this slapsticky version of Mr.
Blandings Builds His Dream House, Hanks plays
one of his trademark roles - the bewildered
man fruitlessly trying to make sense of his
mad, mad world. It's laugh-out-loud funny no

Very funny stand-up of the very famous tv show
of the same name!! Starring Tom Hanks(as the
Harry Morgan type character) and Dan Aykroyd(as
Jack Webb's counterpart), this has a lot of humor
and is a lot of fun, and even has HARRY MORGAN!!! A

Anyone who doesn't like this movie is suffering
from the mind-altering effects of the pseudohallogenic
compound Cyanigin (inside joke: get it?). With Tom
Hanks, Dan Aykroyd, Christopher Plummer, (don't
forget Dabney Coleman!), this movie offers a
fun-filled romp through a Playboyesque mansion,
a "Milk. Fresh, wholesome milk." factory, and a
part of Los Angeles where it's best not to stand
on the street corner at 10pm on a school night
whistling. Seriously, though, this is a fun movie.
While Aykroyd isn't up to par given his previous
role as Dr. Raymond Stanz (late of Columbia
University) in Ghostbusters ("Does this pole still
work?"), he's much better than in some of his
others: The Couch Trip, Sneakers, etc.(I take
great exception to this! Aykroyd plays his
character to the MAX, VERY straight laced!! RP)

Christopher Plummer is genius, as always.

For all you law students, this movie offers a good
lesson on the First Amendment, with the whole
pornography/book burning thing. -

This is a kinda dark comedy with flashes of brilliance!!
Worth a watch if for nothing but to see Carrie Fisher
looking quite beautiful! Cory Feldman is very funny,
as well as Bruce Dern and Henry Gibson! It's good,
but not great! B-

Ray Peterson (Tom Hanks) would like nothing better
than to spend a quiet week's vacation in his suburban
home, drinking beer and watching TV. But, spurred on
by his two friends' spinning of boyish paranoid fantasies
about their reclusive neighbors, the Klopeks, the usually
down-to-earth Ray begins to suspect his idyllic neighborhood
has been invaded by an evil force, to the point where
he and his friends become psychotically nosey. You
see where this is going, and you see it from a mile
off. Only the general surface-thin plot is somewhat
offset by director Joe Dante's fine sense of the absurd,
and a host of engagingly played neighbor-types,
namely Rick Ducommun as Ray's best friend who's
always proposing bad ideas, and Bruce Dern as
a sometimes wild-eyed ex-vet who'd love some
action. Dante and crew seem to have a knack
for keeping these broad characterizations light
enough that you don't mind their superficiality.
But the best jokes in this unprepossessing film
come from composer Jerry Goldsmith's score;
Bruce Dern's presence, for instance, is announced
by the theme from Patton, and the boys' first
approach to the Klopeks' for a meet-and-greet
is buttressed by classic strains from Sergio
Leone spaghetti Westerns. Kudos to the
Klopeks, for their evil ways are ably embodied
by Henry Gibson, Courtney Gains, and Brother
Theodore. In particular, any suburb that
finds it's inhabited by the likes of Brother
Theodore is in dire need of new zoning laws.
But Carrie Fisher's role as Ray's amiably
long-suffering wife is thankless, and she
