INCREDIBLE PETRIFIED WORLD, THE(1959)
In the set: 100 Greatest Sci-Fi Classics
I'm not sure where they got the idea for the name,
as there is no mention of the "Petrified World" in
this anywhere!! John Carradine(The Mummy's Ghost,
House Of Frankenstein, The Invisible Man's Revenge,
etc.) creates a diving bell and a team of divers, ect,
heads down to try to set a record for depth!
Unfortunately the line breaks holding the bell
and it plummets down to the sea floor! This
leads our team to abandon the bell and they
find a catacomb of tunnels leading who knows
where! The acting is pretty good, especially John,
but Phylis Coates'(from the Superman series and
1rst movie!) character is really, REALLY obnoxious!!!
The story is interesting enough but the picture
quality is not the best! B-
A review from IMDb.com:
To an eight year old, it was a very unnerving
movie to watch (yes, yes, why did my parents
let me watch it at a local library movie night?).
Even the cheap sets and bad acting couldn't
convince me this couldn't really happen..... I
must see it again - it sounds like it will
be an absolute hoot to see just how cheesy
the movie really was. - sarah_dewar
