LAST MAN ON EARTH, THE(1964)
In the set: 100 Greatest Terror Classics

Apparently this movie, which was based on
a novel, is the first of several made from
said novel!! The novel, I Am Legend, has been
done and re-done at least four times, counting
this film: The Omega Man, Night Of The Living
Dead, and of course I Am Legend!

This is almost a great movie. Unfortunately,
the supporting cast is quite laking here. Price
does a good job, but the story line falls short,
especially in the end! I don't know how the book
goes, but the ending here just seems to make the
whole movie not worth watching! But, it is Vincent
Price, and this is probably the best incarnation
of I Am Legend out there! B

I first watched this film as a teenager, and
have never forgotten the impact it made upon me.
It was, and still is, truly scary, and without
a lot of gore. The fact that the film is in black
and white accentuates the bleakness of the main
character's situation. Vincent Price as Robert
Morgan gives a truly remarkable performance, and
you can really feel his solitude and isolation.
The atmosphere is one of dread and loneliness.
It is indeed a truly great low-budget film,
and one to be watched with the lights off
