CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON LEGACY SET
The complete collection of the classic Creature
From The Black Lagoon Movies. This is a great
collection, with all the movies having excellent
sound and picture, as well as closed captioning!!!
And the special features, along with the packaging
of this set are excellent!!
CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON(1954)
caliber of, say, Frankenstein or The Mummy,
but still a movie that should be on the list of
must watch for any classic monster movie fan!
The thing that sets this one apart from all the
others(except perhaps King Kong) is that in this
one humans are the invaders on the "monsters"
territory!! Well acted with a good cast, and
the music really fits the scenario! B
A review from IMDb.com:
"Creature from the Black Lagoon" is a movie
I saw on a Saturday afternoon TV show called
"Monster Movies". I loved it from the start. I
now own the DVD collection and I find all the
movies entertaining. The first of the series was,
of course, "Creature from the Black Lagoon".
Richard Carlson, Whit Bissell, Richard Denning,
Nestor Paiva and Julia Adams are awesome in
their roles. A fossil is discovered of a prehistoric
"gill-man" by a Dr. Maia. He enlists his scientist
friend(Carlson) and the research team he works
for that is headed by Denning. They travel up
a river that ends into an area known as "The
Black Lagoon". Looking for more fossils, they
discover the "Gill-Man" is alive! The Creature
is captured and then escapes but is shot and
severely wounded at the end. He sinks toward
the bottom of the lagoon but don't worry; he
made it back for two more sequels. The team
of Jack Arnold(director), William Alland(producer)
and Joseph Gershenson(music director, with help
from young composer Henry Mancini) help make
this film unique. The photography and locales
are beautiful. The acting is superb and there
is enough action and suspense to keep you at
the edge of you seat. This is required viewing
for 1950s sci-fi/horror movie fans. - vtcavuoto

A review from IMDb.com:
There are many moments to savor in this
thrilling, intriguing follow-up to "Creature
From the Black Lagoon." The lovely heroine
(Lori Nelson) stares at the captured creature
through the glass of the aquarium, two strangers
in a man's world. She talks about her career
while her peers have already married and
had children while also feeling sorry for the
creature, a lonely alien in civilization. Taking
a swim in the Florida Everglades, (echoing
the famed Julie Adams-Creature pas de deux
in the original), the now-escaped "gill-man"
watches from below, but she is joined by her
lover (John Agar), who kisses her mid-scene.
Later, she takes a shower in a motel, with
the creature outside, in a chilling pre-"Psycho"
sequence. Some of the dialogue is dated
and stilted, and the creature costume this
time looks worse for the wear - apparently
goggles were inserted into the mask to
make it easier for Rico Browning's underwater
swimming. But great, eerie night-time
photography at the end and just plain
thrilling scenes make this a winning
sequel. - twanurit

A review from an IMDb.com customer:
Why Oh Why do so many fans never let go of
an original film and denounce any improvement
that might be made? While the original film
is a classic of the fifties, I think that was
purely because it was the first (a distinct
advantage most first films in a series have!)
The second film was only "okay," and was
a rehash of the first one. But why I like #3
so much is due to the daring change made
to the Creature himself. He looks truly
menacing and powerful when he becomes
a land being, but more importantly he
becomes much more human-like. We get
to see how docile he truly is, and how it
turns out to be that destructive animal
known as Man who really makes him wild.
When the Creature DOES get wild in this
one, he's a REAL killing machine! The
rampage he goes on in this movie still
packs a jolt for me. - mord39
