FRANKENSTEIN LEGACY SET
The complete collection of the classic Frankenstein
Movies! These are for the most part restored, except
the first two are still rather "dirty"! The audio is pretty
good, but the picture quality is a little lacking! However,
all of these do have closed captioning which is a huge
plus!! And the special features, along with the packaging
of this set are excellent!!
FRANKENSTEIN(1931)
the Frankenstein legacy, and a great start it was!
This was the one that all other Frankenstein movies
would be compared to, and rightfully so! A great
film, even compared to movies made today! A+
A review from IMDb.com:
I just wonder in awe at the uniqueness and charm
of this movie, the atmospherics, sets, backgrounds,
lighting, effects, sound and visuals etc. Even by
watching you just get a totally uncanny sense of
being part of and being real-time witness of a
magnificent period of cinematic history.
You can almost taste the 1930's. It's the nearest
thing you'll ever experience of whats its actually
like to get in a time machine. Just switch off the
lights and you can even imagine yourself being a
1930's cinema goer. Beautiful experience!
This film is nothing less than a classic! It just
encapsulates the best of everything involved in
movie making! - mike finch

A review from IMDb.com:
Without a doubt, this is one of the greatest horror
movies of all time and the highlight of James Whale's
career. The atmosphere evoked from the sets is near
perfect, and although actually filmed on the Universal
back-lot, you can believe that you are being led through
a 19th century Bavaria. Although Karloff portrayed the
monster only 3 times, this was undoubtedly the pinnacle
of his career, and the film that most fans will remember
him for. Mention should also be made of the excellent
performance given by Ernest Thesiger as Doctor
Pretorious. I've been interested in movies since I was
4 years old and have "Bride of Frankenstein" to thank
for that. Superb. - Richard Burdon

A review from an IMDb.com customer:
A strong cast (including Boris Karloff in his last
screen appearance as the Monster) makes the
second sequel to Frankenstein memorable. This
time Henry Frankenstein's son, Wolf (Basil Rathbone)
revives the dormant monster with the help of Ygor
(Bela Lugosi, in his most underrated performance).
This is an impressive, intelligent production that
scores highly in all departments. 9/10 - plato-11

A review from an IMDb.com customer:
The story picks up somewhat after Son of
Frankenstein...Ygor...still alive somehow
and the monster go in search of the second
son of Frankenstein to recharge the monster
and ultimately put Ygor's brain in the monster's
body.. That at least is the plan. This is certainly
not the best of the Frankenstein cycle but it
is a lot of fun. Bela Lugosi again chews up
scenery as the demented crook-neck Ygor...a
malevolent and evil persona that has befriended
the "innocent" creature, played with depth
and great ability by Lon Chaney Jr. In point
of fact...Chaney's Monster ranks closely to
Karloff's for his ability to give the monster
a third dimension so to speak. His scene with
the little girl and her ball is a gem. Lionel
Atwill is in this as a bad scientist(a familiar
role for him) and again he is very winning in
his portrayal. Evelyn Ankers is good in the
female lead and Cedric Hardwicke is adequate
in his role as the Frakenstein progeny, although
somewhat lacklustre to be sure. All in all a good
Frankenstein film! - BaronBl00d

A review from an IMDb.com customer:
House of Frankenstein was the first of the monster
free for alls with all three Universal monster legends,
the Frankenstein monster, the wolfman, and Dracula.
It is not the most coherent story around, but you
won't care because the film has a brisk pace, imaginative
scenes, creative sets, and some first-rate acting.
Boris Karloff plays a doctor in the Dr. Frankenstein
tradition trying to resurrect the Monster and appease
the wolfman by finding him a path to death. He is the
epitome of evil and has no moral compass whatsoever.
Karloff does a fine job in his role, and Lon Chaney,
as ever saddened at his lunar plight, does a wonderful
job again as Larry Talbot(his third time in the role).
Glenn Strange plays the monster..and plays him well
although really has little to do in the film till the last
five minutes. Dracula is played by John Carradine.
The shining stars of the cast, however, are J. Carroll
Naish playing a poor murdering hunchback with low
self-esteem, and the bubbly and beautiful Elena
Verdugo as a gypsy girl. Naish gives a very poignant
portrayal. Look for cameos by Lionel Atwill and
George Zucco(wish his part had been larger). House
of Frankenstein is a great film in the Universal tradition
of its monsters and mayhem. One of its other
outstanding virtues is its famous score. - BaronBl00d
