PHANTOM FROM 10,000 LEAGUES, THE(1955):
All-in-all, just what you'd expect from a movie about
monsters in the 50's!! The real monster here isn't from
the deep!! C+
From an IMDb.com customer:
The movie is actually has more of a story than than
I anticipated - it's a not a great story or film; it's "OK",
watchable if you can't find anything better to watch.
I can say there are much better "B" horror films than
this one but there are definitely worse than this one
out there. The movie is nothing to brag about but is
a little bit engrossing to a small degree.
Expect to see a few business men in their suits & ties
on a beach, a couple of women in bikini's, a silly looking
monster, a mad scientist, a spy, and some other odd
characters in this one.

This is pretty bad! A space craft lands in a deserted
part of America where it starts controlling lesser animals
and easily swayed humans to do its bidding!! D+
From IMDb.com:
Most of the reviews of this movie have focused
on acting, writing, and production values (or perhaps
the lack thereof). This is what makes the film
entertaining. In my view, the most interesting
aspect of this film is its allegorical quality.
This movie was released in 1955, during the blacklist
period and the McCarthy hearings. The title refers
to the alien's ability to takeover the brains of the
lesser animals (birds, dogs, cows, chickens) as well
as the brains of weak-minded humans. Doing this
provides him with the ability to see what the rest
of us are up to. To me, that seems a lot like informing
on our neighbors and co-workers. And what's the
defense against this alien threat? We defeat it by
staying united and sharing our strength.
Allegory or no, it's fun to watch the rampaging
farm animals (perhaps a precursor to "Black Sheep")
and the attacking blackbirds (props, I hope, tossed
at a car window). - Gary Brownell

With Vincent Price this is a can't miss movie, right?!
Ok, maybe not!! While Vinnie is pretty decent in this,
and the story line is actually fairly decent, it's the
acting in this that brings it down!! Not terrible, mind
you, just a little under what you would expect in a Price
movie!! In this one, a man goes looking for a girl who
disappears through a secret passage in an old house which
leads to - you guessed it - the deep!! An underwater world
to be exact! A world run by Vincent!! C+
From an IMDb.com customer:
Been years since I've seen this gem and recently
watched it again. I find this one a fun and nice science
fiction fantasy. Not true to the writings of Edgar Allan
Poe - just loosely based on his work - but it is a neat
film. There are a couple of references to Poe and his
name is mentioned specifically but that's about the
only connection.
Vincent Price is always great to watch - this film is no
exception. The character Captain Sir Hugh is a mysterious
man who runs "the city in the sea". He has plenty of help
along with gill-men guards that patrol the waters. He
has found the key to long life - the "fountain of youth"
in a way - under the sea.
This one is a worthwhile watch if you are into Vincent
Price, sci-fi, fantasy and films with underwater themes.

An Edger Rice Burroughs story brought to life! With
Peter Cushing and Doug McClure, this had all the ear
marks of being a great movie!! Unfortunately, Cushing
isn't much more than window dressing, and this isn't
the best McClure has done!! Still worth a watch!! C+
From IMDb.com:
Refreshing to see Peter Cushing in something
outside of the standard horror or mystery genre.
He is absolutely charming as Dr. Abner Perry.
Dr. Perry and his assistant, David Innes, has just
finished building their huge Iron Mole drilling machine.
Their adventure begins promptly as they quickly
burrow down into the Earth's Core. They step out
of the machine and find themselves in a beautiful
fantasy jungle - but watch out for that giant dinosaur
bird guys! They find themselves captured and enslaved
with other humans (cavemen) by strange dominating
creatures/monsters. Humorously, these humans or
cavemen speak English! How great for our two
travelers - now they have help to figure out what's
going one and might help them to find a way out
of there!
This one is just simply fun - no other way to word
it. It's a terrible movie but has a certain silly charm
to it that is appealing.
