MUSICALS - KILLER DILLER(1948)

This is a pretty poor copy of this movie,
but at least most of the audio is intact!

Another mostly black movie!

I see no plot here at all!! But I will say
that the two dudes(Patterson & Jackson) do
a bang up job at mimicking the Ink Spots!
Maybe the best part of the whole movie! C+

From IMDb.com:

The chubby bros sing the song "I Believe" - which
i believe ive never heard before, except for my dad
singing it around the house. Its just amazing for
me when i hear some random bits of music that my
dad essentially employed as memes when he spoke,
which he did a lot. Use verbal memes, i mean.

Also worth watching to see Moms Mabley as a young
woman, altho no too different from her as an older
woman. And my own personal new theme song is "Aint
nobodys business but my own." - helenem-63638

MUSICALS - MR. IMPERIUM(1951)

An actress meets a prince, soon to be king! He
does everything he can to make her fall for him!
She puts him off and they say their goodbyes.
13 years later they meet up again and take up
where they left off with her looking for a man
to play a king in her new movie, and the prince/
king exiled! B

From IMDb.com:

Story of a Italian Prince who falls for an Arizona
singer while she is performing in Italy. 12 years
pass and the actress (Lana Turner) is now a major
Hollywood star, and the Prince (Ezio Pinza) is now
exiled, at which point they resume the romance.

Lana Turner never looked more beautiful. Ezio Pinza
was right off his success from "South Pacific." Turner
and Pinza don't make a good couple, and it is somewhat
evidenced by the scenes together. Pinza has ample
opportunity in this film to show his Operatic talents,
in many cases Lana Turner stands around as beautiful
window dressing.

Marjorie Main appears in a somewhat rare non Hillbill
y role, and pulls it off quite well. Barry Sullivan
appears as Lana Turners Hollywood paramour, but that
plot line is not followed through with very well.

This movie is in the public domain, and as such can
frequently be found on TV, DVD and Video. Despite that
fact, it still carries the MGM name well. Beautiful
costumes, sets, musical scores and beautiful
Technicolor. - sbibb1

MUSICALS - ROYAL WEDDING(1951)

This only suffers from the singing of Jane
Powell, for me anyway! I'm not a fan of high
pitched singing! However, take that out of the
equation and this is a pretty good movie, with
one of the most unique dance sequences ever! It
even rivals the great dance scene in Singing
In The Rain, "Make Them Laugh"!! A-

From IMDb.com:

Tom Bowen (Fred Astaire) and Ellen Bowen (Jane Powell)
are singing and dancing siblings whose agent Irving
Klinger (Keenan Wynn) sends them to do their musical
act in Great Britain.Keenan Wynn plays also Irving's
British twin brother Edgar.Ellen falls in love with
a man she meets during the ship trip. This man is called
Lord John Brindale (Peter Lawford).Tom finds his sweetheart
from Britain. That lucky gal is Anne Ashmond (Sarah
Churchill) who is dancing at Tom's musical.Royal Wedding
from 1951 is a delightful romantic musical comedy.
It is great entertainment from the beginning to the
end.It has many memorable scenes. The most memorable
scene may be the one where Freddy dances on the walls
and on the ceiling.I am a big Fred Astaire fan.
There isn't a bad musical with Fred Astaire. There
isn't a dull moment in Royal Wedding. - Petey-10

MUSICALS - JACK AND THE BEANSTALK(1952)

We have 4 sets of Abbott and Costello movies with
27 different A & C movies! This is not on any of
them! Costello gets roped into a babysitting job
for a baby girl and her brat of a brother! He tries
to get on the kids good side by reading a story but
he stumbles over the big words and the kid takes
over! This is that story! B

From IMDb.com:

I turn to this movie when I'm feeling down. My 5-year
old niece (with no prompting from me) prefers it to
any Disney you care to name. It's one of those movies
that's so bad it's brilliant. And why Jack's Mother's
line, uttered in sheer frustration, "Plant the Beans,
Jack!" has not become a revered movie catchphrase I'll
never know. I always shout "Plant the Beans, Jack!" at
the Kiefer Sutherland character in "24", especially
when he's a little slow on the uptake. Abbott and
Costello's "Jack and the Beanstalk" is a little gem
and does not deserve the criticism levelled at it
on IMDB. The humour may be basic, the characters may
be of the cardboard variety, but the director has
managed to create a special little world that children
and adults can enjoyable enter . - chouchoulane

MUSICALS - RHYTHM AND BLUES REVIEW(1955)

Another of those "movies" that are just to showcase
the talent of the day! Not quite as big of names
as some of the other movies of this type, and not
quite as entertaining. But it is interesting to
see the acts that you probably have never seen
before! C+

From IMDb.com:

Many of the acts haven't stood the test of time. Most
of the rest (Cab Calloway doing a lousy version of his
famous Minnie the Moocher; Nat Cole doing an embarrassing
Calypso number) doing forgettable songs. At their best,
many of these acts were great. This doesn't showcase
them well at all - billsoccer
