MUSICALS - CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG(1968)

This particular release of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
was one of amoung several called "The Decades" by
MGM! This included a CD of music from the 1960s!
The list of songs in this are:
01. California Dreamin' - The Mamas And The Papas
02. It's My Party - Leslie Gore
03. Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye - Steam
04. Wild Thing - The Troggs
05. Baby Love - Diana Ross And The Supremes
06. I Can't Help Myself - The Four Tops
07. My Girl - The Temptations
08. Wooly Bully - Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs

A fairly poor but happy inventor meets up with
a fairly rich woman whose father owns a candy
factory!! He goes to try to sell him his new
invention, "Toot-Sweets" and all heck(this is
a family show) breaks loose!! Turns out the little
candies are not only a tuneful item, but appears
to be a great dog caller!!!

Many songs here, with, of course the great title
song, including the very pretty "Hush-a-bye Mountain"!
Set in the early 1900s, the sets are really well
done! And the basic story is, of course, all about
the car! He promises his children that he'll buy
an old race car that is in sore disrepair, but he
has no money!! After an unlikely windfall, he buys
the car and proceeds to try to put it back together!
With relationships blooming, this is just a fun little
story!!

The only thing that this could have used, like many
reviewers on IMDb.com have mentioned, is to have Julie
Andrews in the lead female role!! However, Sally Anne
Howes does a pretty good job, she's just not Julie!!

An interesting side-note here, this has a 17 year old
Phil Collins in it!!

Also of note, like several of the old epic musicals
of years gone by, such as Sound Of Music, this has an
intermission in it!! B+

From IMDb.com:

It surprises me that some people think this is a
horrible film. I was 3 when this film was released
and for as long as I can remember I've loved it!
The songs are fun, especially Hushabye Mountian,
Chu-chi Face and Me Ole Bamboo. This movie is both
light, cheery as well as dark and creepy, the Child
Catcher to this day is one of the scariest villians
I know! And know it is a fabulous musical in London!
Hopefully someday it will come to Broadway, I'd love
to see it on stage!. - drkjedi1-2
