NANCY DREW MOVIE MYSTERY COLLECTION

Four movies from the 1930s of Nancy Drew!! These are all
on burned discs, 2 movies per disc!! Not terrible transfer
but not the greatest!

NANCY DREW - DETECTIVE(1938):

This one's about an elderly(50) woman who's promised
to donate a large sum of money to the school that Nancy's
going to! She suddenly disappears and Nancy is determined
to find out what happened to her! A

A review from IMDb.com:

Good, action packed, teenage movie from 1938 based on
the popular book series "Nancy Drew".

The movie moves quickly and leads Granville and Thomas
develop a unique chemistry they carry through until the
end, adding an element of charm and interest to the film.

This is an above average film, starring two teenagers who
possess unique acting skills. It is more than a teenage
movie. - tr-83495

NANCY DREW - REPORTER(1939)

The copy on this set has a lot of "white noise" on
it!

This is really aimed at the younger set! Nancy is
just a little to bubbly for the part! Nancy was
more serious than this! The story isn't bad, about
a girl framed for murder and Nancy trying to get at
the truth for the paper! The two kids are pretty
obnoxious, but the girl can sing pretty good! B-

From a reviewer from IMDb.com:

The Nancy Drew series of films was made by Warner
Brothers as part of their B-picture unit and was
intended for viewing primarily by children. Nancy
Drew...Reporter is a fine example of the series.
The film was highly enjoyable, the acting was
excellent, very clever bits in the plot. The
film holds up just as well today, and makes a
fine movie for children to sit down and watch.
The film is in the public domain and can be
found on DVD, Video, and TV. - sbibb1

NANCY DREW - TROUBLE SHOOTER(1939):

This one's about Carson's brother getting blamed for
a murder, and of course Nancy and Ted get involved!! B+

A review from IMDb.com:

Bonita Granville and Frankie Thomas make this little
mystery a lot of fun for the family to watch. This and
the Nancy Drew films in general made with Granville are
little gems that sadly do not get shown as much as they
should. My big question is, why were there not more.
These Drew movies are more entertaining than the Monogram
Charlie Chans and Mr. Wong movies-yet those lasted longer
than the Drew series did at Warners. If you have a chance
to see the Nancy Drew/Bonita Granville series-please
do so. MM - Michael1958

NANCY DREW AND THE HIDDEN STAIRCASE(1939):

Surprisingly, the best of the four movies! In this one,
Nancy and Ted again get involved with some nerdowells who
are trying to scare/chase some old ladies out of their house
which has been promised to the city for a hospital! A

A review from IMDb.com:

It always was a great joy to read Nancy Drew books
and being able to see "The Hidden Staircase" was a
wonderful thing Hollywood was able to give to the
public in the 1940's. Bonita Granville, Frankie Thomas
and John Litel gave excellent performances and made
the Drew characters come to life. Films in those days
had a limited budget and it was an innocent age without
all the blood and gore in todays films. No criticism
is necessary for these Classic Films with Classic
actors which are still being shown in the year 2000
and forever. - whpratt1
