PERRY MASON MOVIE SET
A six movie set of the Perry Mason 1930s movies!
This includes all of the movies that were made
with three different actors as Perry: Warren
William(4), Ricardo Crotez(1) & Donald Woods(1)!
PERRY MASON -
THE CASE OF THE HOWLING DOG(1934)
This is quite good! Williams does a great
job as Perry, and the movie is very engrosing!
All the particulars pull off their roles very
convincingly! A
A review from IMDb.com:
This is the movie that got me interested in
the character Perry Mason and I began watching
the old television series because of this film.
It's a shame that Warren William didn't make
more of these films because he was great in
this. I like the little comic bits in the
movie. I think it's a classic. I have it in
my collection. Warren William was a very
good character actor and it's a shame we
don't see more of his films shown on tv. - rja-6

A review from IMDb.com:
This is the best of Warren William's
performances as Perry Mason, well directed
by Michael Curtiz. This is nothing like
the PM you've seen from Raymond Burr,
and not exactly like the PM in the books,
either.
many scenes are hilarious, the french
accent and the onion scene being prime
examples. Olin Howland as the coroner
is priceless. - chyde

A review from IMDb.com:
When I sat down to watch this I thought,
another Perry Mason movie. I have always
loved Perry Mason but this is the best damn
one you will ever see.
As well as having a great plot and whodunnit
side to it, it has got to be the funniest
movie you are ever likely to see. A classic
scene arises at the end of the movie when
Perry has gathered everyone together to
announce the killer, at the same time that
the doctor is giving him a physical.
If you are into comedy/whodunnit movies
then I highly recommend this one. - ClubSoda

Ok, not really! But it is a part of the story! A
man is killed and Perry gets fingered for it! A
A review from IMDb.com:
Perry Mason and Della Street marry at the
beginning. I don't think that ever happened
in the TV series.
This is a sleek, stylish movie, with good
acting and chic sets.
I had forgotten that Wini Shaw was in the
opening credits and was wondering who that
fabulous fatale femme could be. In a dark
wig she is very persuasive as the precursor
to the betraying woman of film noirs, which
would follow a few years later.
What a talent she was! - Handlinghandel

A new Perry! Cortez actually does a decent
job here! This is quite the game of cat and
mouse here, with many twists and turns! Pretty
decent flick! And Perry shows up in a court!
(BTW the cat is far from black!! It's a clico! A
A review from IMDb.com:
Excellent pre-Raymond Burr filming of a Perry
Mason novel! I was lucky enough to see this
on TCM (since it isn't on video). At first
I wasn't expecting much, but found Ricardo
Cortez to be an excellent Perry Mason! Why
Warner Brothers didn't keep him for other
movies in the series I don't know! That's
probably why Perry Mason wasn't that
successful until the tv series came along.
It would be nice to see this title on
DVD. - davelisalynch

This last Perry Mason movie has yet another
new actor playing the part! And again he does
a good job! It's interesting that in the last
two movies there's no mention of the fact that
Perry and Della got married!! Anyway, another
good outing for the Perry Mason franchise! A
A review from IMDb.com:
As someone who has read all 82 of the Perry
Mason novels, I have to say that this is the
best I've seen of the Warner Brothers Perry
Mason films. Readers of Gardner's mysteries
will appreciate how faithfully the screen
writers were able to keep to the essentials
of the original plot in this short 70 minute
film.
This film is far superior to the turkeys WB
made with Warren William (although that's
not saying much.) And Donald Woods was more
like the literary Mason than Raymond Burr,
who was almost fat enough by the end of the
TV series to play Nero Wolfe!
And, of course, there's the great 1930's
atmosphere in this film, something the TV
series could never hope to
reproduce. - breckswordz
