PINK PANTHER SET
A five movie set of The Pink Panther movies!
This does not include the third movie, The
Return Of The Pink Panther, nor the movies
after Trail Of The Pink Panther: Curse Of The
Pink Panther(1983) and Son Of The Pink
Panther(1993)!
THE PINK PANTHER(1963)
the "great" Peter Sellers is the focal point of this series of
movies, but if that's true, then I'm not sure how much I'm
going to enjoy the rest of these!! To me this movie was
carried entirely by David Niven and Robert Wagner, along
with Capucine!! Without these great actors(Niven and Wagner)
this would have been nothing more than a very dim-witted
movie of the likes of the Three Stooges! Sorry, everyone,
but that is my opinion! As it is, this is a very fun movie,
and a forerunner for the great works of both David and
Robert(It Takes A Thief, Hart To Hart!!)! B+
A review from IMDb.com:
I had an absolute ball watching this. It works so well because
Sellers underplays it. He's never over-the-top, never looks like
he's playing for jokes, which makes his bumbling all the funnier.
Blake Edwards epitomises the sexy martini and bright colours
world of the cinematic sixties for me. Revisiting Pink Panther
since my childhood, i can see how this was a natural continuation
from Breakfast at Tiffany's.
The charming David Niven and radiant belle Claudia Cardinale
give added appeal. They are actually the two leads. Inspector
Clouseau is a supporting player in this. His mass popularity lead
to his being the centre of the sequals, including the famous
second film Shot in the Dark, also by Blake Edwards.
A gem of a "man hiding in the closet" farce, perfect for late-night
fun. See it if you enjoyed What's Up Doc? or Breakfast at
Tiffany's. - Ben_Cheshire

A review from IMDb.com:
The second of the Pink Panther series, this is considered
by most critics as the best of the lot, and for once I have
to agree with them. It's almost a one-man show with Peter
Sellers ("Inspector Jacques Clouseau") exhibiting his comedy
talents, most of it the slapstick variety as he constantly
runs into things and-or falls down. Some of that gets
tiresome after a while but most of it works and gives
the viewer a lot of laughs.
It was nice, after these years, to see the production in
2.35 widescreen. It made the photography a lot more
impressive than the formatted-to-TV VHS. I had never
realized how nice this movie looked. The sets in
here - mainly George Sanders' apartment interior - were
good, too, and Elke Sommer was always nice to ogle
back in the '60s.
Sellers' boss, played by Herbert Lom, wasn't that funny
but Burt Kwoul as "Kato," Clouseau's "trainee" is fun to
watch in all his sneak attacks. Sanders was funny, too,
and he didn't have to say a word to get a laugh. Just
the deadpan looks on his face as he watched "Clouseau"
bumble around were priceless.
This is a bit slow in the beginning, but once it picks
up it's funny the rest of the way. From a film history
angle, it was interesting to see how morals had begun
to change and how rules were becoming relaxed. In
here, director Blake Edwards went out of his way to
show cleavage of Sommer and there was an implied
sex scene you wouldn't have seen a decade earlier.
Also, in the end - although played for laughs - it turns
everyone was having an affair with somebody. - ccthemovieman-1

A review from IMDb.com:
The Pink Panther Strikes Again **** / *****
Dir: Blake Edwards; Starring: Peter Sellers
Funny gazillionth sequel (not literally!) sees
Chief Inspector Clouseau (Sellers in his iconic role)
being chased down by an escaped madman with
nervous ticks. Fun from start to finish, and I actually
prefer it to the original "Pink Panther" film. It's zanier,
fresher, and seems more like a wild spoof in the vein of
"Austin Powers" rather than an outdated, unfunny bore
like (I find) the first film.
Highlight: Clouseau trying out the "Hunchback" costume
and inflating himself into the air. This was used again in
one of the worst films of 2002, "The Master of Disguise,"
but this is inarguably much better. - MovieAddict2014

While not terrible, this is not the best of the series!
A review from IMDb.com:
Peter Sellers is once again Inspector Clouseau in
"Revenge of the Pink Panther," a 1978 film also
starring Herbert Lom, Dyan Cannon, Robert Webber
and Robert Loggia. A mobster decides to get Clouseau
out of the way with disastrous results for everyone
around the clumsy detective. In one of the best scenes,
Clouseau picks up a good-looking woman, ladies man
that he is, but she turns out to be a transvestite.
Clouseau is forced to change clothes with her and
is left on the highway. When the car crashes, the
dead body is identified as Clouseau's, and the world
mourns, with one exception - Clouseau's superior,
Dreyfus (Lom) who feels that now, he can start
living again. Forced to give the eulogy and on the
verge of a psychotic break, Dreyfus keeps laughing
as he speaks. A great scene. When Clouseau returns
to his house, he finds that Cato, believing him dead,
has turned it into an Asian brothel, making for more
hilarity This isn't the best Blake Edwards-Peter
Sellers collaboration, but it has some great moments.
There is a tremendous amount slapstick; some of it
is funny, and some goes a long way. Seeing Sellers
as Clouseau, however, is always worth it. - blanche-2

This is as disjointed as you might expect from a movie
A review from IMDb.com:
Some might call this movie a felonious grave robbery
but I think this is a fine tribute to a late comedian master.
I don't think it was such a bad idea to take some unused
scenes and older highlights and put together a completely
new film after decease of masterful Peter Sellers.
Even though sequences with Jacques Clouseau don't fit
the plot perfectly, it works. There are couple of brilliantly
hilarious never-seen-before scenes with Sellers in here
and to me that's a reason enough to make this film, I'm
sure. I also have to admit Richard Mulligan is superb in
the role of Clouseau's father. Bit strange sequel but cool
stuff and great fun. - Mika Pykalaaho
