POLICE ACADEMY MOVIE SET PAGE

The whole series of Police Academy movies, in 2 sets!!

Police Academy Set 1:

POLICE ACADEMY(1984):

Ok, color me shocked! I remember seeing this once a
long time ago and my memories were that this was
really stupid!! But to my surprise, I actually liked this
but admittedly it wasn't Airplane quality!! There were
a few chuckles, but mostly just a pleasant story! On
the plus side, this has the very wonderful Perry Como
singing one of his best songs ever, Magic Moments!! B

From a reviewer from IMDb.com:

Police Academy (1984) was the first of many films
from this series. Since this was the 80's and this film
was very successful there was only one alternative,
milk the cash cow until it was dry. Like most of these
films, the first one is the best and most creative of
the bunch. The film follows a bunch of losers and
outcasts who join the local police academy for various
reasons. The main character is Mahoney (played by
Steve Guttenberg) a man with a shady past who enrolls
in the academy as an alternative punishment for a
previous criminal act. He becomes the motley crew's
leader and representative.

This movie made Guttenberg a star and it started
a film series that would live on D.T.V. and make
the producers a lot of money. It also gave people
jobs and made others into minor stars. I found this
movie to be very entertaining. If you're into juvenile
humor and a bunch of cheap laughs, then I recommend
this movie. Others need not apply. Followed by six
sequels!!

Recommended for some laughs and low brow humor.
Hey, it's one of the essentials.

POLICE ACADEMY 2: THEIR FIRST ASSIGNMENT(1985):

This is quite a drop down from the first movie
and probably one I would never watch again! It
didn't help my assessment of this by having Bobcat
Goldthwait in it! He is, in my opinion one of the
worst comedians ever! C

From a reviewer from IMDb.com:

Police Academy 2 (1985) was quickly rushed into
production to capitalize upon the surprisingly
successful first film. The recruits have finally
graduated from the academy and are now assigned
positions throughout the city. Crime is rampant
and the people are afraid to leave their homes
because of a local crime wave. A group of young
punks (led by Bobcat Goldwait) have recently
assaulted the chief of police (Howard Hesseman).
With the city in turmoil and with his job being
threatened by the Chief's right hand man, he
turns to the new recruits to help clean up the city.

I hate it when they franchise a movie and tone
down the raunchy humor and crude manners,
elements that made the first one a success.
The movie is funny but it's not as good as the
first film. Sadly the creativity and humor of
the Police Academy films goes down the eventual
slippery slope. By the fifth film the series becomes
very unwatchable and extremely redundant. Even
though it's a step down from the first film, it's
still entertaining.

POLICE ACADEMY 3: BACK IN TRAINING(1986):

Maybe a little better than the last one, this one
still unfortunately has Bobcat in it, which is a
huge distraction for me! Still, the humor is very
subdued, A few decent enough jokes, but for
the most part just a basic movie! C+

From a reviewer from IMDb.com:

Police Academy 3 (1986) The inmates are now
running the asylum. Mahony and company are
now instructors at the place they once attend.
Running out of ideas and funny situations, the
film starts to repeat (ad naseum) many of the
gags and punchlines from the first two films.
While new characters are being added to the
series, a few old one decide to leave (for good).
If you notice, the bigger the star Steve Guttenberg
becomes, the lesser screen time he gets. Oh well.

Slightly recommended. If the producers have
thought with their heads instead of their pocket
books, they should have put this series to bed
instead of dragging it out and running the series
until the wheels and the engine fell
off. - Miyagis_Sweaty_wifebeater

POLICE ACADEMY 4: CITIZENS ON PATROL(1987):

The last one with Steve Guttenberg in it! Not
terrible, but still leaves a lot to be desired! C+

From a reviewer from IMDb.com:

"Citizens On Patrol", the fourth installment of
the Police Academy is again shaped in the same
mold as it's follow-ups: the slapstick, the crude
humor, and sexual innuendos.

It's too bad that the writers of these movies
couldn't think of something different than
the same old thing, but what works works!

Kudos again to Michael Winslow and his vocal
effects. Also thanks goes to the writers for
giving Zed (Bobcat Goldthwait) a new love. - Chris Burgess

POLICE ACADEMY SET 2:

POLICE ACADEMY 5: ASSIGNMENT: MIAMI BEACH(1988):

This is surprisingly good! I enjoyed it a lot more
than the last few PAs, even though Steve Guttenberg
was no longer part of the cast! Fortunately, neither
was Bobcat, which for me was a huge plus! All-in-all
a pleasant movie with enough humor to keep me
interested! B-

From a reviewer from IMDb.com:

Choosing plot over simply adding in numerous
characters proves to be the downfall of the Police
Academy series. Without Guttenberg there's no
clear anchor for the film. We get the cliched and
simple (though still charming) side characters in
abundance. Matt McCoy tries to fill Guttenberg's
shoes, but we're not buying it. Callahan gets a bit
more screen time which is always nice, and a Miami
setting does her character justice. The final scenes
of the series have included foot chases, airplanes,
jet skis.etc. So now we have a hovercraft chase.
Gaynes has more to do, but people such as Winslow
are just on repeat. It's amazing that they will try
the kung-fu voice over joke 5 films in a row and
expect it to work. Not a difficult watch, and it
does have an alligator fight, but this vehicle is
low on fuel. - SnakesOnAnAfricanPlain

Cast Of Police Academy 5:

Bubba Smith ... Hightower
David Graf ... Tackleberry
Michael Winslow ... Jones
Leslie Easterbrook ... Callahan
Marion Ramsey ... Hooks
Janet Jones ... Kate
Lance Kinsey ... Proctor
Matt McCoy ... Nick
G.W. Bailey ... Harris
George Gaynes ... Lassard
Rene Auberjonois ... Tony
George R. Robertson ... Hurst
Tab Thacker ... House
Archie Hahn ... Mouse
James Hampton ... Mayor of Miami

POLICE ACADEMY 6: CITY UNDER SIEGE(1989):

Not quite as good as the last film, but like the
last one, this actually has a plot which makes it
at least watchable and enjoyable in spots! No
side splitting humor, just a pleasant movie! B-

From a reviewer from IMDb.com:

'Bad jokes is where I draw the line!' As Hightower
says in the 6th adventure of our favorite misfits.
This time the story is about a gang (well, there's
3 of them anyway), who keep on robbing juwelry
stores and banks along a busroute... but why, and
how?! And who is their secret boss?

Oh well, never mind the plot. It's just a filler
between the sketches of the heroes and their
peculiarities. The strong Hightower, gun crazed
Tackleberry, big-breasted Callahan and the rest
of them. We all know them from before, and
once you've seen one episode, you kinda saw
them all.

Weak point of the movie is the absence of Mahoney
(the star of the series) and Zed (the funniest). Best
scene is when Jones takes on one of the gangmembers
in Bruce Lee style. Oh well, I had some laughs, and
City Under Siege won't be in my bottom 100. I'd give
it 4/10. - TheOtherFool

Cast Of Police Academy 6:

Bubba Smith ... Hightower
David Graf ... Tackleberry

Bruce Mahler ... Fackler

George Gaynes ... Lassard
Kenneth Mars ... Mayor
Gerrit Graham ... Ace
George R. Robertson ... Hurst
Brian Seeman ... Flash
Darwyn Swalve ... Ox

POLICE ACADEMY 7: MISSION TO MOSCOW(1994):

Unfortunately I got this to load after cleaning
the disc!! For the good parts, it's fairly short!
And it's the last one!! Other than that, this is
really hard to get through! Bad comedy, what
there is, bad acting, bad script! One of the worst
movies I've had the misfortune to watch!! D

From a reviewer from IMDb.com:

Call me weird, but I have always enjoyed the
Police Academy movies, and I found this one
a pleasant diversion thanks to guest stars
Christopher Lee and Ron Perlman. It's as silly
as ever, but quite inoffensive, and Ian Jones
captures some wonderful Moscow locations.
Just think, without the fall of the Berlin wall,
this film would not have been possible! Rife
with continuity errors (look at the car windows
during the chase sequence, and note that
Perlman's character's last name is spelled
differently on a manifest than it appears
elsewhere), this was obviously filmed on
the cheap. I like it anyway. - John Seal

Cast Of Police Academy 7:

George Gaynes ... Commandant Lassard
Michael Winslow ... Sgt. Jones
David Graf ... Sgt. Tackleberry
Leslie Easterbrook ... Capt. Callahan
G.W. Bailey ... Capt. Harris

Charlie Schlatter ... Cadet Connors
Richard Israel ... Adam Sharp
Gregg Berger ... Lt. Talinsky
Vladimir Dolinskiy ... Bellboy (as Vladimir Dolinsky)
Pamela Guest ... Anchor Person
Stuart Nisbet ... Anchor Person (as Stuart Nissbet)
David St. James ... News Director

LOADED WEAPON 1(1993):

A direct rip off of the Lethal Weapon movies,
this is the best thing on these discs!! Just a plain
fun movie, with quite a few big and semi-big names
in cameo appearances, such as William Shatner,
James Doohan, Whoopi Goldberg(all from Star
Trek fame), Charlie Sheen(Lethal Weapon!),
Erik Estrada & Larry Wilcox(CHiPs), Joyce Brothers,
and of course, Bruce Willis!! Starring Samuel Jackson
and Emilio Estevez! Great movie!!! A

From a reviewer from IMDb.com:

OK, just to get this out of the way: I've always
loved this movie. I actually saw it before I saw
the "Lethal Weapon" series (Though I was familiar
with them) and loved it even more once I had.

The thing that makes this movie funny, even today,
is that even though it has a lot of topical humor
from the early 1990s it's mostly made up of
self-sustaining jokes that last. Not everyone
is going to know who Leona Helmsley is, but
everyone is going to laugh at Tim Curry in a wig.

And then there are the myriad of cameos by
stars who know how play it straight but don't
necessarily take it too seriously. From the
delightful appearance of Samuel L. Jackson
as Wes Luger to the walk- through of Emilio
Estevez's brother and Cory Feldman it's a
non-stop parade of talent that knew what
kind of movie they were playing in. (Not to
mention it almost brought a tear to my eye
to see Phil Hartman doing what he does)

Even if you're not a fan of the "Lethal Weapon"
movies you're going to find this movie funny.
It fires off about 30 jokes a minute, about 20
you're going to laugh at. If you are a fan of
the "Lethal Weapon" you'll probably laugh at
about 29.

Watch it with friends, you won't regret it. - Budruss

Cast Of Loaded Weapon 1:

Emilio Estevez ... Jack Colt

Gokul ... Hindu
Tom Bergman ... Mini-Mart Punk (as Tom Bruggeman)
