THE RAT PACK COLLECTION
All three of these movies have great extras on
them, with pretty good "making of" on each one!
They are all well worth watching!! And each movie
has closed captioning!!
OCEAN'S 11(1960)
Without a doubt one of the classiest movies
out of the 60s, with a cast that is a who's who
of the time! Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy
Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, Joey Bishop, Angie
Dickenson and a host of others plan a heist in Las
Vegas, with a lot of humor mixed in! One of
my favorite movies ever! A+
A review from Amazon:
The original hepcat spree, the big daddy of
Rat Pack movies, the straight flush in a
high-stakes game: yeah, it's Ocean's 11, baby.
Long before George Clooney dared to rework
this movie into a franchise, Frank Sinatra turned
a straightforward heist picture into--well, in
some ways, a star-studded but still straightforward
heist picture. Ocean's 11 is sometimes a surprise
to fans who expect a jokier, more freewheeling
movie; the boys actually play it fairly straight
in this one, and after all they're under the
direction of Lewis Milestone, once the director
of All Quiet on the Western Front. Sinatra is
fairly effortless, Dean Martin gets loose on "Ain't
That a Kick in the Head?", Sammy Davis, Jr.,
croons an approximation of a title tune, and
Peter Lawford, Joey Bishop, and Angie Dickinson
fill in the gaps. The lingo is fun (Richard Conte:
"Give it to me straight, Doc--is it the big casino?"),
the decor is eye-peeling, and the general
ambience of 1960 Las Vegas has a great
time-capsule quality. While they were
shooting the picture, the members of the
Rat Pack were also performing on stage
at night, which suggests that the real fun
were happening when the cameras weren't
on. The swagger, however, endures. --Robert Horton

A romp in the old west with Dean Martin and Frank
Sinatra, along with Victor Buono, Charles Bronson,
Anita Ekberg and Ursala Andress! And probably the
shortest role that Jack Elam ever had!! (And even
a cameo by Arthur Godfrey)!! A lot of fun!! B+
A review from Amazon:
Well Sinatra and Martin are classy and funny, the
ladies are sexy, the supporting cast generates
laughs and we even get the three stooges for
good measure doing their classic
TEXAS skit. this is no movie classic but it is a fun
picture that doesn't take itself too seriously.
In that vein you will enjoy it. - Peter Ingemi

Frank, Dean and Sammy are together in this one,
along with Bing Crosby! A good start for a comedy
movie, however, this one has several really bad
songs in it(not counting My Kind Of Town by Frank),
and the music doesn't enhance the movie at all,
in my opinion! While the story line is good, the
music just gets in the way! This also has the
great Peter Falk, who does a great job(except,
again, for singing!!!!) and really helps the movie!
All-in-all, not the best of the "Rat Pack" movies!! B-
A review from Amazon:
A madcap, cartoony look at the Roaring Twenties,
"Robin and the Seven Hoods" is a musical send-up
of the mob movies of old. Frankie, Deano, and
Sammy are joined by an ensemble of colorful
characters, including Bing Crosby and Peter Falk,
as they sing and dance their way through musical
numbers like "Bang Bang," "My Kind of Town," and
"Mr. Booze" (which was parodied on Seth MacFarlane's
"Family Guy.") This is a fun, irreverent film that
indulges in the various trope of old gangster movies
while making fun of them at the same time. After
watching this movie, you'll never look at cornerstones
the same way again. - Craig Tyhurst
