SCI-FI COLLECTORS SET

Four newer sci-fi movies!

SUPERNOVA(2005)

While not great, this is neither terrible! The pluses:
several good actors doing good in their roles, music
was fitting, scenery was good, the story line was
interesting and the special effects were decent!
Now for the bad: some of the top names in this
were very bad(Luke Perry, Peter Fonda, Tia
Carrere!!), some of the facts were quite messed
up(there's no capital punishment in Australia!),
some of the special effects were pretty bad,
and how the hell did the family find a beach
with absolutely no one else on it!!!(lol) Anyway,
I'd give this a C+

A review from Amazon.com:

As with all the movies I like to deem earth
thrillers, along with other such titles, I highly
recommend this movie, as they give us a fresh,
new look at how our fragile, taken-for-granted
eco-system could come to a screeching halt. I'm
not a tree hugger, or any other title people like
to call themselves, but just one who is open to
new ideas on the demise of mankind, and life on
earth. To take this concept to the level of
natural correction, or celestial control adds
the excitement of being out of man's control
to make things right. This movie does a great
job of that, and I think the only anticlimax
in the whole movie, is the discovery of a
wrong formula, which, oddly enough calls
the forces of our solar giant into rein. The
possibilities for an alternative ending are
few, but this one would have never ocurred.
Beside that, I thought it was a fantastic
story. - Samuel M. King "samchar1"

THE BLACK HOLE(2006)

Wow, this had sooooo much promise: decent story,
decent special effects. But omg!!! The acting was
sooooo bad!!!!! And the script itself was horrible!
Not really worth a second watch - ever! D

A review from Amazon.com:

If you're really a sci-fic fan, then this is really a
pretty good "B" movie. Of course it's not an Alien

FINAL DAYS OF PLANET EARTH(2006):

Not the best sci-fi movie ever made, and really,
for me, too much bordering on horror! Also, at
3 hrs. a bit long for my tastes! But it really isn't
bad, and the acting is surprisingly good! Story
line was pretty good, and the special effects were
better than average. All-in-all, probably not a
movie that I would watch over and over, but
still worth a watch! B-

A review from Amazon.com:

A surprisingly good film, Final Days of Planet
Earth brings to the screen the story of an unlikely
group of people that have banded together in an
effort to uncover a plot that could spell the end
of human civilization, as we know it.

An archaeologist leads a motley crew of a band
who all share something in common: they've all
been chosen to become hosts or fertilizer in the
service of some very desperate and rather anxious
alien life forms...

Daryl Hannah being the only well known of the
actors disappoints with her performance which
seems forced and unnatural, while the rest of
the cast carry out their performances pretty
well (though nothing great) and establish
likable characters.

Although it was a pleasure to see the lovely
Daryl Hannah again, good acting on her part
and a bit of exposure would have been just right...

The film doesn't start off that strong, but instead
picks up about 20 minutes into the movie.
Moreover, in the beginning it's too abstract
and difficult to follow, but most of it falls
into place soon enough. One thing we're never
told is how and why Commander Phillips has
such an effect on the baddies...

In short, the setting, the music and the acting
are pretty good, the action/special effects are
just average, the plot is interesting, while the
dialogues are rather poor.

In a nutshell, it's probably not a movie you
would want to add to your collection,
but it will provide for an evening's entertainment,
and that's about it. 3.5 Stars - L Gontzes

Michael Kopsa ... Dalton (as Mike Kopsa)

Nathaniel DeVeaux ... Paul
Eric Breker ... James Bowen
Greg Michaels ... Czarski

THE LAST SENTINEL(2007):

A stretch for sci-fi, more of an action/war movie!
With nearly no one being able to act, this really
depends on the action sequences to carry it. And
while the action/battle scenes are done pretty
well, I am not a fan of war movies, whether it
be past, present or future!! C

A review from an Amazon.com customer:

This movie was bad, but not all bad. An example
of a movie that needed to be rewritten and directed
by someone else. Many of the plot elements
were wholly original, like guns with AI personalities.
Some that were unoriginal but good, like making
children into killing machines. Unfortunately Don
Wilson is a crappy movie martial artist. The action
consists of millions of rounds fired but none
reaching their target. What was the point of
creating superhumans with implanted computers,
if they can't shoot a target. There were a couple
of decent action scenes though. The ending was
a major let down, not a good time to use bad fx
and bad action. But still if you are a scifi
fanatic/writer its worth seeing. - Joseph Weitzel "Weaselco"
