BUCK ROGERS SERIAL(1939)
First things first, this has NOT been cleaned up! The
picture quality is watchable, but has lines throughout!
And there's several jumps in the show! Secondly, THERE
ARE NO SUB-TITLES!!
OK, now for the movie! Just about everyone knows the
story of Buck Rogers! Buck and his pal Buddy crash(in
a derigible here) in the freezing north and, using the
suspended animation gas that Buddy's father invented,
are kept asleep for 500 years!(The original story had
Buck as a cave explorer who got zapped by gas in one
of the caves that he was in! No Buddy with him then!
Buddy was a character that was already in the 25th century)!
Buck and Buddy wake to a whole new world, and are
immediately thrown into one adventure after another!
This story is about "Killer Kane", who's an evil ruler
trying to take over the Earth!!
This has perhaps the first version of a teleporter! A
From IMDb.com:
This serial only proves that Buster Crabbe is definitely
the king of the Saturday morning serials. He played two
of the most memorable characters in comicdom, Flash Gordon
and Buck Rogers. The main difference is the fact that Flash
Gordon is more of an adult strip while Buck Rogers was more
of a kiddie strip. In comparing the serials, Buck Rogers
had as much action as the latter two Flash Gordon epics,
however there was not as great a chemistry between Crabbe
and Constance Moore as Crabbe had with Jean Rogers. All
that aside though, on its own merit, its a great serial. -Sargebri
