SPY KIDS DVD SET:
3 of the spy kids movies!
SPY KIDS DVD SET:
A fine movie for kids, but only passable for us older guys! A++
From a reviewer at IMDb.com:
Gregorio (Antonio Banderas) and Ingrid Cortez (Carla Gugino)
are the greatest spies who retire to be simple consultants once
they started a family. Their children Carmen (Alexa Vega) and
Juni (Daryl Sabara) think their parents are boring. Gregorio
is annoyed by the children's TV show "Floop's Fooglies" and
investigates its host Fegan Floop (Alan Cumming). He turns
out to be a villain evil inventor. His latest evil invention
with Alexander Minion (Tony Shalhoub) are kid robots. However
the robots have no brains and Floop is after the Third Brain.
He's been kidnapping OSS agents and captures the Cortezes.
Felix Gumm (Cheech Marin) reveals himself not to be the
kids' uncle. He tells them the truth and sends them to the
safe house. OSS agent Ms. Gradenko (Teri Hatcher) arrives
but she turns out to be a double agent. The robots take
the Third Brain and the kids seek out Machete (Danny Trejo)
for help who turns out to be their father's older brother.
Director Robert Rodriguez has infused this kids' movie
with wacky visuals and crazy gadgets. It's all outlandish
fun. The adult actors are all top shelf with many Rodriguez
alumni. The trick of this movie are the kids. They're
likable enough. Their characters are combative siblings
but Rodriguez makes sure that they show their love for
each other every once in awhile. - SnoopyStyle

I actually think this one is a little better than the first!
Maybe because the actors are getting a little more comfortable
in their rolls!! Anyway worth a watch! B-
From a reviewer at IMDb.com:
Sibling secret agents Carmen (Alexa PenaVega) and Juni Cortez
(Daryl Sabara) rescue the President's bratty daughter Alexandra.
Siblings Gary (Matt O'Leary) and Gerti Giggles (Emily Osment)
are competing fellow OSS agents. Donnagon Giggles (Mike Judge)
is promoted to director of OSS over Gregorio Cortez (Antonio
Banderas). Juni is blamed for losing the Transmooker device
and fired. The device is tracked to a mysterious island off
of Madagascar. Gary and Gerti are assigned by their father
to go to the island. Carmen and Juni arrive on the island on
their own. They discover their gadgets don't work and the
island is filled with weird creatures. Their parents Gregorio
and Ingrid (Carla Gugino) set off to rescue their kids with
Ingrid's parents (Ricardo Montalbán, Holland Taylor) as
stowaways.
Robert Rodriguez continues his kiddie franchise with everybody
returning for the sequel. I continue to like the arguing Cortez
siblings. I also like the Giggles as their foil. Rodriguez stays
with his wild CGI style. There are some Ray Harryhausen-like
touches such as the creatures and the warrior skeletons. I
think some Rodriguez fans judge this franchise too harshly
for being kids movies. This franchise exists as its own thing
and should be enjoyed as such. - SnoopyStyle

Definitely the weakest link! But still, almost fun movie!
The diference here is I think they spend too much money on
special effects and not enough on a decent script! The idea
was good, but it was just not as good as the last one!
But there were some pluses, mainly the cast: George Clooney,
Tony Sheloob, Sylvester Stellone, Ricardo Mantiban & Elija
Wood as added characters helped out a lot! If you've watched
the other Spy Kids, you'll want to watch this! C+
From a reviewer at IMDb.com:
Juni Cortez (Daryl Sabara) has retired from the spy game. His
sister Carmen (Alexa PenaVega) has been captured by the Toymaker
(Sylvester Stallone) in his video game. The Toymaker is using
the game to escape from prison and take over the world. Juni
has to get pass level 5 which is suppose to be unwinnable.
Along the way, he finds new friends with the help of Grandfather
(Ricardo Montalban).
Juni needs a partner. I don't understand why Robert Rodriguez
wrote this movie this way. At first, I thought Alexa PenaVega
was too busy. Then she shows up halfway through the movie so
she wasn't busy after all. I don't understand why the movie
has Juni alone for half of the movie. When Gerti Giggles shows
up early, I actually thought she's his new partner. The movie
does give him Demetra which does work to some extend. I do like
her character.
The other problem is the video game. I need the various levels
to be more definitive. It needs it to be more logical. It needs
to understandable. It becomes a bunch of random craziness that
isn't that compelling. Rodriguez may also be over his head with
the technical requirements of the CGI 3D animation. If this is
better written, it would still be good as a 2D movie. - SnoopyStyle
