SUPERMAN SET: SUPERMAN THE MOVIE - SUPERMAN IV
This set has the four Superman movies starring the
great Christopher Reeves!!
SUPERMAN - THE MOVIE(1978)
The first and far and away the best ever movie of the
Man of Steel(Not to mention the greatest superhero
movie ever made[as of 2017!!], although Marvel's Ant-Man
and Thor - Ragnarok were REALLY good, and of course the
first Batman movie with Michael Keaton & Jack Nicholson
was really close)!! With a stellar cast, wonderful music,
great story, and great acting throughout, this is the
standard that all other superhero movies have been
measured by since!!! An aside here, I thought it was
wonderful that they gave screen time to Kirk Alyn and
Noel Neill, the first Superman and Lois Lane!!! And
this great movie has the second best theme song of all
time for movies, Can You Read My Mind!!(The best being
from the Bond movie Octopussy - "All Time High" by Rita
Coolidge![ Again, I have to note that the music for Star
Wars{the original}, Lord Of The Rings and High Road
To China have great soundtracks, but not really one
outstanding song!!]) A++
From IMDb.com:
This is my 301st review on IMDb, so I'm going to make
this short, simple, and super:
"You'll believe a man can fly!" - the tagline for "Superman"
He stood for "truth, justice, and the American way." Ahh,
to just think that this is the movie that started it all, ladies
and gentlemen. Carefully adapted from the popular DC
Comics character created by Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel,
Richard Donner's 1978 epic has stood the test of time to
become the supreme superhero film. Alongside Tim Burton
("Batman") and Sam Raimi ("Spider-Man"), Donner earned
his place in cinematic history by becoming the first director
to make a perfect superhero film. Superman is the most
recognizable comic book superhero in history, and when
Clark Kent (the late, great Christopher Reeve) rips open
his shirt to reveal that symbolic "S" an hour and 11 minutes
into the film, you know that it's one of the greatest cinematic
moments. This epic defined the superhero film, and in the
27 years since its release, every subsequent comic book
superhero movie is forever indebted to "Superman." The
plot (and what a plot) runs complete throughout its epic
154 minutes and believe me, there's not a single wasted
moment in the film's entire running length. Of course,
Clark Kent is sent from his dying home world of Krypton
by his father Jor-El (the late Marlon Brando), grows up
and works at the Daily Planet, falls in love with Lois Lane
(Margot Kidder), and must foil the diabolical plans of Lex
Luthor(Gene Hackman). Put simply, there will never be
another movie like "Superman," and who can forget
those *cosmic* credits, the aforementioned "S" scene,
the Superman and Lois date over New York City and
later above the clouds, and that one, definitive climax
when Superman lets out a painful cry that reveals
that one glint of humanity that he's earned from his
time on earth. Reeve will forever be linked to the role
that really made people believe he was a super man,
even when he wasn't wearing the blues, reds, and
yellows, and was instead confined to the prison that's
called a wheelchair. But we know that he's up there,
flying high with the Almighty and proving to us all that
he is who we believed he was. The recent news that
Bryan Singer ("X-Men") is directing a new Superman
is not exactly getting me giddy, considering the low
standards of today's film-making and the onslaught
of CGI effects that dominate many Hollywood action
movies these days. I love "Superman" and even today,
I'm still touched by its magic, and deeply saddened
by the real-life tragedies that have followed it.
A perfect, "super" 10/10. - dee.reid

While still a very good movie, this is not quite as
good as the first Superman movie. On the other
hand, no other superhero movie has been as good
as the first Superman movie!! However, it has it's
own merits, still having Gene Hackman reprising his
Lex Luthor role, and Margot Kidder as Lois, Ned Beaty,
Jackie Cooper and Marc McClure also returning, this
one is about three fugitives from the Phantom Zone
that escape and reign terror on Earth! A
From IMDb.com:
Not many films from the 70's have stood the test
of time but those that have had one basic fact in
common: "a good story". The fact that this film has
a great story as well as some of the best special
effects available in the 1970s is perhaps the reason
for it's success. If you are reading this thread and
have not seen this film you must certainly be from
another planet.
I will not spoil this film by telling you the plot or
anything that happens in the film as others more
worthy of my name ("filmspoiler") have done. I will
only say that this film joins the very few (Terminator
2, Back to the future 2, Final Destination 2) sequels
that are as good as, if not better than, there prequels.
I only hope that the 2006 remake "Superman Returns"
is 30 years ahead of it's time!!

Ok, I have learned more from re-watching movies
than I thought possible! This movie is not nearly as
bad as I remembered it!! Admittedly it suffers a bit
from the lack of Gene Hackman, Ned Beatty and
Valerie Perrine, this still is a pretty decent movie with
Richard Pryor and Robert Vaughn(though I assume
Vaughn did this kicking and screaming the whole
way!! lol) It's definitely not in the ranks of Superman
1 or 2, but still worth a watch or two or three! B+
From IMDb.com:
Meet Gus Gorman, a naive computer programming
natural. For him a keyboard is a weapon- and as a
result, Superman faces the microelectronic menace
of his life. The MAN OF STEEL becomes his own worst
enemy after kryptonite exposure.
This film stars: Christopher Reeve, Richard Pryor &
Annette O'Toole also featuring Margot Kidder as Lois
Lane
If you have read my reviews on Superman 1 & 2 you
will see how highly I rated the two films I gave them
both 9/10. This got me excited to watch this one when
I got around to it and it was a let down. You would get
a laugh every so often with Richard Pryor but this was
not a very good film. It was not terrible like some people
on here think however compared to the first two it was
a massive let down. So if you like the first two and are
ready to watch this one don't get your hopes up for it
to be as good as the first and the second entry

Quite a letdown from the first two movies, this
had potential but just wasn't up to the task! At
least this one brought back Gene Hackman as
Lex Luthor! And Lois and Jimmy where in it a bit
more than the last one! Bottom line, worth
probably one watch per five years span!! C+
From IMDb.com:
Superman Turns "Peacenik" could be another
title to this film. Christopher Reeve remarked
several times that this was his most "important"
Superman movie. Being somewhat of a Liberal
"peacenik," he was the kind you'd see out with
a big "peace sign" at rallies against nuclear weapons.
This movie had the kind of message that was dear
to his heart.
Superman goes about trying to rid the world
of nuclear weapons here, especially, of course
when they get into the hands of villain "Dr. Luthor"
(Gene Hackman). It was a nice message and, overall,
a nice film. Unlike the other Superman films of the
era, they didn't overdo the sappy romance with "Lois
Lane" (Margot Kidder). They concentrated more on
the story. Unfortunately, that story - even with good
intentions - just wasn't all that memorable.
Ask anyone: people remember the first two Reeve
Superman films a lot more than the last two. This
one, and the third one with Richard Pryor, pretty
much "bombed" at the box office, at least compared
to the others.
It did not help that the producers of this movie were
Golan-Globus films, guys that were known for their
cheap and usually-sleazy exploitation films. "Superman"
deserved better. - ccthemovieman-1
