CAPTAIN AMERICA:
1979 SET(1979)
This is a set of the two TV movies released in 1979 about our
man of the disc! Sadly, there is no closed captioning on this!
CAPTAIN AMERICA:
1979(1979)
While not true to the origin of Cap, this is still
a lot of fun!!! In this tale, after his friend is
killed in an apparent robbery, Steve Rogers is on
the case when he gets a call saying that the person
calling him has all the answers and they'll tell him
everything! Welp, not so much! The bad guys don't get
information that they're trying to get from Steve,
and one thing leads to another accident! Steve is
gravely injurred, and a scientist friend of his
father's puts him back together, while also giving
him a shot of a syrum that his father had been working
to create a super-human! This is kind of like the
Six Million Dollar Man in this respect! Anyway, after
the injection, he becomes Captain America! After reacting
negitively to the proceedure, he proptly goes after his
.
assailents, and his friends killers!! The whole thing
revovles around a neutron bomb!!
Steve doesn't actually bedcome Captain America 'til
about an hour and 10 minutes into the film!
While none of the main actors here are well-known,
there's at least a couple of side characers that may
be familiar: Lance LeGault was in The A-Team playing
their main advisary, Colonel Decker and he was also
in four Elvis movies: Girls, Girls, Girls; Kissin'
Cousins, Viva Las Vegas & Roustabout! Also here is
Steve Forrest who was in S.W.A.T., as well as five
episodes of Murder She Wrote! B+
From IMDb.com:
I will not hear a word spoken against this fine
movie. It's great for watching when getting together
with your sarcastic friends. You know the ones I mean.
The kind that rent a schlock horror movie simply so
they can make fun of it.
The production values may lag, the acting may make
you wince, and the origin of Captain America is
shattered into a million zillion pieces. There is,
however, one thing that makes it the greatest Captain
America movie of all time: The Captain America movie
from 1991! That one makes this one look like Citizen
Kane. Plus, this one has a motorcycle!
Yes folks, if terrorists ever force you to choose
one Captain America to watch at gunpoint, make it
this one. -k5318008

This time Steve is up against a terrorist who's using
a syrum to make people age very quickly! And all he wants
to cure some people he's infected in Portland, OR is
a billion dollars!! First thing, this wasn't Portland!!!
Second, this is much worse than the first movie! Third,
they replaced the good Dr. Wendy Day(Heather Menzies-Urich)
with Connie Sellecca(known for The Greatest American Hero)!
Fourth, the acting in this is terrible! And lastly, this is
much more a detective story than a superhero movie! Cappy
only shows up three times!!
As a guest star, we have the great Christopher Lee(sooo
many great roles for him: Saruman in Lord Of The Rings,
Count Doocu in Star Wars, Sherlock Holmes in the 1990s,
Scaramanga in The Man With The Golden Gun, as well as
being Dracula and Fu Manchu in several movies!) Also here
is Stanley Kamel(Monk) & Ken Swofford(Murder, She Wrote,
Ellery Queen, Switch) & Alex Hyde-White(son of Wilfred,
Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade, 4 episodes of Buck
Rogers)!! B
From IMDb.com:
A fun television movie. Captain America must
uncover a plot by the malevolent terrorist Miguel,
who plans to rapidly age the entire city of Portland,
OR. Although the Captain's costume needs a bit of
help (the helmet is pretty goofy), and the romantic
lead is annoying, there's some good super feats
and super gadgets evenly distributed throughout
the movie. Get some friends who don't mind some
comic book camp, and you'll enjoy it.- goblue97nc
