SPIDER-MAN 3(2007)
This was a pretty good movie, all except one
scene in the lounge where Mary Jane was singing!!
Thought that the scene was totally unnecessary!
Other than that, good action, good plot, good
acting by all! B+
From IMDb.com:
Ah, what a shame. The first two films were so much
fun, and this one is a big old mess. Gwen Stacy is
shoehorned in to a movie that doesn't need her, the
emo-Peter scenes don't work at all, there are two
many villains piled into a plot that can't sustain them,
and the film creaks under the weight of too much
disorganised material. The creative differences between
Sam Raimi and his producers are right up there on
the screen.
If Venom had to be included, he's introduced in the
lamest way possible: out of nowhere, the black goo
plops down to Earth and attaches itself to Peter's
moped. Surely a better idea would have been for John
Jameson, the astronaut from 'Spider-Man 2', to return
to Earth with the symbiote on board his ship? Then
he could become Venom and he'd have a good reason
to hate Peter after the events of the previous film. It
wouldn't be faithful to the comics but it would provide
a through-line for the movies.
Instead we have Topher Grace getting gooped, and he's
fine, but he's jostling for space with Thomas Haden Church's
Sandman and James Franco as the new Green Goblin, both
of whom bring their own flaws to the movie. Sandman is
far too sympathetic and is pointlessly retconned into the
death of Uncle Ben, resulting in a scene towards the end
where Peter forgives him for no good reason I can see.
(His origin provides the movie with one genuinely great
scene, when he's transformed into sand and tries to take
on a human shape.) He also seems to have the ability to
fly when in sand form. The Green Goblin portion of the plot,
meanwhile, turns into a soap opera, with Harry suffering
from amnesia, something that may work on the page but
is melodramatic nonsense here.
The movie went forward without a single cohesive vision,
and the result is a crowded pile-up that ends the trilogy on
a bum note. It's not bad enough for Sony to have thrown
their toys out of the pram and started all over again,
but it's not much good. - mutty-mcflea
