SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SET:
The two movies starring James Garner!
Support Your Local Sheriff(1969)
Just like Maverick, this shows off the best of
James Garner's talents!!! This also has some of
the greatest of the times western co-stars in
it! Harry Morgan, Jack Elam, Walter Brennan,
Bruce Dern and Henry Jones are here to spice
up this movie, which is a lot of fun!! B+
From IMDb.com:
This film really should be in the IMDB top 50. Alas,
just as with the Oscars, comedies never get the
same respect as other genres.
It also seems that comedies more quickly feel
dated. Not this one, however. Although it
obviously doesn't have today's special effects,
and quick-edit sensibilities, it still feels almost
as if it could be a modern flick.
It is as perfect as a comedy can be. Never a
dull moment or lagging scene.
Excellent screenplay with lots of quick jabs.
An absolutely perfect cast.
If you're reading this because you actually
haven't seen this flick yet, and you like
easy-to-digest comedies, you can't miss
with this one. Ten stars. - cableaddict

Again a can't miss hit for James Garner, with
just about everyone from the last movie in it!
While not a sequel, it has the same flavor as
Sheriff, with just a few twists and turns from
that movie! Suzanne Pleshette starts out as
a very irritating woman, but soon is tamed
down by Garner's charm! Another hit for
Garner and crew, especially Jack Elam!! B+
From IMDb.com:
James Garner was always good in westerns (just
watch the original "Maverick" series if you don't
believe me), but he was never more in his element
than he is in "Support your Local Gunfighter".
This has got to be one of the funniest westerns
(besides "Blazing Saddles") I've ever seen. In fact,
everyone here has a good line (even Conners as
Swifty Morgan gets some good ones. Wow!).
But you have to watch it for Garner. Just look at
him making the best of his unfounded notoriety
as a gunfighter. He's a master at mistaken identity.
He made it a daily practice in the "Maverick"
series. And with Elam at his side, everything
falls into place nicely.
There are too many good things in this film
to even hint at, so I'll just insist that you
support James Garner and draw on this
"Gunfighter".
Ten stars. Catch Elam's final monologue;
that should tie up any loose ends for
you. - Mister-6
