BRINGING UP BABY(1938):

I am not a big fan of Katheryn's and this doesn't help
endear her to me any more! Cary's great, but relly this
is one of his weakest links!! I'm not sure why this is
touted as one of the greatest comedy movies ever! Oh,
well!! C

A review from IMDb.com:

They certainly don't come any funnier than this film. The
hilarious golf course scene at the beginning is followed
immediately by the equally riotous nightclub scene. This
is followed by more memorable set pieces & quotable
stick-in-your-mind-forever lines than any movie I can think
of, including Bank Dick & Night at the Opera.

Grant & Hepburn are brilliant & innovative. I read some place
that when Cary Grant was having trouble finding the David
character, Howard Hawks gave him the horn rims & told him
to do Harold Lloyd. Which he does. Brilliantly.

I can watch this repeatedly with no more flagging interest
than listening to a Beethoven symphony or sonata.

Hard to believe it was a big flop when it first came out. - inframan

PHILADELPHIA STORY, THE(1940):

Now THIS is a great movie with Cary Grant and James
Stewart, how could it be anything else!! Both put in
a great effort here, and dispite having Hepburn in it,
it's one of the greatest comedies ever!!! A-

A review from IMDb.com:

With Hepburn, Grant, and Stewart, it doesn't take much
to create a memory. Well, throw in some the best comedy
writing ever, and you have a masterpiece. All three actors
are at their peaks and parry and thrust like master swordsmen.
If one simply reads a plot, it seem so uninspired--when
you see the pacing and the incredible exchanges, it rises
above anything so simple as a mere plot. Stewart is so
unassuming and so consistently insulted as to pull into
himself. The previous marriage of Dexter and Tracy is
hanging out there, creating huge gravity. If you have
never seen this film, make it a priority. - Hitchcoc

WOMAN OF THE YEAR(1942):

I know I'm stepping on a lot of toes here, but this just
wasn't a great movie, neither as a comedy or a drama! Just
not a fan of Hepburn or Tracy!!! C

A review from IMDb.com:

In their first of nine co-star rings, Katharine Hepburn
and Spencer Tracy play Tess Harding and Sam Craig, reporters
at a newspaper who get married. Naturally, Sam assumes that
Tess will "settle down" and just be a wife, but she is very
independent, with events to cover all over the world. They
sort of forget that they're married.

You just can't beat a pairing like Tracy and Hepburn. "Woman
of the Year" moves along like a...I can't even come up with
a good comparison, but I basically mean that it's very brisk.
It's impossible not to like this movie. You would have to be
a full-scale sourpuss not to like this movie. A comedy
classic. - lee_eisenberg

ADAM'S RIB(1949):

This isn't as great as most people tout it to be, but it's
not terrible! I'm just not a big fan of either Katherine
Hepburn or Spencer Tracy! Maybe worth a watch, but not any
more, at least for me!! C+

A review from IMDb.com:

Adam (Spencer Tracy) and Amanda Bonner (Katharine Hepburn)
are husband and wife lawyers who end up on the opposite sides
of a case. Doris Attinger (Judy Holliday) follows her husband
Warren (Tom Ewell) to his mistresses' apartment and shoots him.
Adam is assigned to prosecute the wife and Amanda comes to
her defense.

The drawback for this rom-com is that they start off as already
married. The point of most rom-coms is to bring the leads together.
This one has to break them apart before getting them back together.
Tracy and Hepburn have good chemistry together and have some good
exchanges. They are fun together and well served by this vehicle.
It's more of a movie about sex equality. The courtcase isn't very
convincing. The movie outside of the Tracy Hepburn duo isn't that
compelling. This is just simply about watching this classic
team. - SnoopyStyle
