Television shows created by Gene other than Star Trek!!
Genesis II
This is the first of the two pilots made for the same
series that never happened!!
The premise is that a man(Dylan Hunt) was trapped in
an experiment in suspended animation for long space
flights, but it went wrong when there was an earthquake
that destroyed the underground testing site, with Bylan
still in Suspended Annimation! He stayed that way until
he was revived 154 years later by inhabitants of that
era! The world is not at all like the one that Dylan
left behind: there was a great war and people took to
either the underground, or stayed on the surface! The
main difference between them is that the surface dwellers
were affected adversely by the radiation, while those
underground were spared! Both factions want Dylan for
their own purposes! One for good, the other, not so
much!
This has several Star Trek: TOS alumni in it: Majel
Barrett(Nurse Chappel), Mariette Hartley(the TOS
episode "All Our Yeasterdays"), Ted Cassidy("What
Are Little Girls Made Of") & Percy Rodriguez("Court
Martial")! A-
A review from IMDb.com:
Genesis II was made for CBS, who turned it down
in favor of the Planet of the Apes series, with
the thinking that a network could have only one
science fiction show on its schedule at a time.
Planet Earth was made for ABC, and it wasn't a
sequel, rather, the next episode of the same
premise, with a new male lead and a lighter tone.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture's script was written
to be an episode of Genesis II. (and was in turn,
stolen from an older episode of Star Trek! (Earth
satellite comes back looking for its maker))
Andromeda uses two of the characters' names
(Dylan Hunt and Harper Smythe)though it has
little to do with the original concept. By
using the names I suppose the producers could
call it "Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda") I really
wish they would have made a Genesis II series
instead,
IMHO: I liked that Mariette Hartley was set up
to be a recurring, love-interest/villain for Dylan.
It could have been a good show, though I have to
agree with the poster who said it probably would
have only lasted one season. Still, 26 episodes
would have been great to have. - stephe1605

This is the second of the two pilots that Gene created for
a proposed series that never came to fruition!!
This actually looks like a second episode of Genesis II!
With one of their members critically injurred, a team
bands together to try to find a doctor who is the only
one who can save his life! While trying to find said
doctor, the team runs into a society who is run strictly
by women, and the men are slaves!
LOL, There's a Spock moment here where a dude tries to
save an injurred member of their party by placing his
hands on his head!!
This is considerably weaker than the first show!
This has almost all of the same Star Trek: TOS alumni
returning with the addition of Diana Muldaur(TOS episode
"Is There In Truth No Beauty?" & "Return To Tomorrow") &
Craig Huxley("And The Children Shall Lead" & "Operation:
Annihilate"! B
A review from IMDb.com:
If you're an obscure-movie buff like me, find "Planet
Earth" and watch it. I loved it. It's sexually suggestive,
it's got mutants, underground trains connecting the whole
Earth, mystics and doctors and it's totally entertaining.
John Saxon as Dylan Hunt is very expressive, and I swear
I could watch it again and again. In a way, it's very much
a prequel to Enterprise and follows suit with the usual
Roddenberry ideologies. In fact, all the acting is good.
Look for Gene Roddenberry's wife in the face of extras,
as well as a few other recognizables. Diana Muldaur (who
later played Dr Pulanski in The Next Generation) is very
attractive as the domineering slave-trader and I find
myself envying John Saxon in certain parts of the
film - well, see for yourself! A great 60 minute
flick! - timelikeinfinity
