HART TO HART SEASON 4
Season four of one of the greatest series
on TV! Returning are all three of the main
actors! Another great season!
EPISODE # 1: ON A BED OF HARTS(Sept. 28, 1982):
This one's all about a bed!! It's the Hart's anniversary
and Jonathan has bought a bed as a gift! Not just any
bed however, this one's the one they had on their
honeymoon!! Unfortunately, the one he got wasn't
the right one, so they go to Napa Valley to the little
inn that they stayed in on their honeymoon, only
to find the owner has died and the estate is up
for sale, and the only way to get the right bed is
to buy the whole place!! Apparently, the bed is
very well liked, as there are several people out
after it for unknown reasons!!! A
EPISODE # 2: WITH THIS HART, I THEE WED(Oct. 12, 1982):
Jennifer's aunt is getting married----again!! Her aunt
is aptly played by Eva Gabor(Green Acres)!
Anyway, apparently someone doesn't want this
marraige to work either, as when the party enjoys
the cake, people start dropping like flies!! The
leading suspect is the owner of the Fellowship
Of The Tent And The Robe, a "religious" cult that
the good old bride and groom are a part of!!
Also in this is the great William Windom(Murder She
Wrote, Star Trek: TOS episode "The Doomsday
Machine")!! Another well seen but almost unknown
actor here is Keene Curtis(Cheers, many guest
starring roles) in his second round with Hart
To Hart!! A
EPISODE # 3: MILLION DOLLAR HARTS(Oct. 19, 1982):
The Harts are on a business trip to London at a casino
when Jennifer catches the eye of a big time gambler!!
He asks her for a number and he wins, then he wins
again, and again!! The baron takes off leaving Jennifer
with the money!! They go looking for him, and it seems
he's just plain disappeared!! This of course leads to much
mayhem!!!
Guest starring Jeremy Kemp(Star Trek: TNG(episode
"Family") & Bernard Fox(Bewitched, many Disney
movies, Titanic)! A
EPISODE # 4: HARTS ON CAMPUS(Oct. 26, 1982):
It's time for Jennifer's class reunion, and Jonathan decides
to go with her to meet the people she knew before they
got married!! Turns out there's a dude who went to school
just down the street from her school who's had a tremendous
crush on her all these years, and he's devised a plan to make
her his!! Not sure exactly what it is about this one, but I found
it to be not up to par with the rest, IMHO!! B+
EPISODE # 5: HARTS AT HIGH NOON(Nov. 9, 1982):
A man who owns a "ghost town" is talking with Jonathan
about investing in the town!! Jonathan and Jennifer head
out to visit the town, just as there's trouble with a dude
who sees a couple of other dudes "mining" a mine thought
to be dried up of gold!! More fun and dead people!!
Stanley is no longer with Jonathan, but now we have a
new accountant named Arnold played by John Feilder
(in the Star Trek: TOS [episode "Wolf In The Fold"], 12
Angry Men, well known as Piglet in the Winnie the
Pooh movies and TV show!!!!), Rory Calhoun(The
Virginian), Peter Mark Richman(StarTrek: TNG
[episode "The Neutral Zone"]) & Graham Jarvis(ST:
TNG[episode "Unification Pt. 1"])!! A
EPISODE # 6: HARTS' DESIRE(Nov. 16, 1982):
An old professor of Jennifer's shows up at the Harts
doorstep with a bit of a problem! He's a ghost writer
for a series of romance novels, and has won an award,
but doesn't want to give away his secret!! So he asks
Jennifer to accept the award for him in disguise!! But
not everyone is thrilled about the award, or the books!!
Guest starring the venerable Ray Walston(My Favorite
Martian, Star Trek: Voyager[episodes "The Flight" & "In
The Flesh"], Star Trek:TNG{episode "The First Duty"]) &
Dean Stockwell(Quantum Leap, Star Trek: Ent[episode
"Detained"])!! A
EPISODE # 7: RICH AND HARTLESS(Nov. 23, 1982):
Max writes a jingle(actually writes a ton), and wins a
million dollars! Well, not quite!! There is a scam at work
here that is not apparent at first, but it is undoubtedly
not good for Max, or the Harts!!!!
Guest starring a great actress, Gloria de Haven(Thin
Man Goes Home, Summer Stock, Out To Sea)!!!! A
EPISODE # 8: IN THE HART OF THE NIGHT(Nov. 30, 1982):
There is a visitor from out of the states visiting here
and of course the Harts know him!!! King Raschid is
here and he's brought a treasure from his country
to share with the people of the US! There is an
attempt on his life right away, and the assailant is
"killed"!! Obviously, more to come!!
Guest starring Jesse White(It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad
World, Make Room For Daddy, many guest starring
roles!!) A
EPISODE # 9: ONE HART TOO MANY(Dec. 7, 1982):
Jennifer plans to do a piece on a health club and poses
as a client!! Things go from bad to worse as it becomes
obvious that there's more going on here than just loosing
weight!! A
EPISODE # 10: A CHRISTMAS HART(Dec. 21, 1982):
While celebrating Max's birthday, the Harts get robbed!
It is shown who's behind the whole scheme right off the
bat!!
Some really good guest stars here: Billy Barty(on many
tv shows as a guest star), Jesse White(in the episode "In
The Hart Of The Night")! A
EPISODE # 11: HUNTED HARTS(Jan. 4, 1983):
The Hart Industries has just out-bid a competitor for
an aluminum factory, and the people they've out-bid
are not happy!! So a plan is devised whereby the Harts
end up funding a wildlife refuge, and wind up being
hunted!!
Guest starring one of my favorite actors of all time,
David McCallum(The Man From U.N.C.L.E., NCIS),
Kenneth Tigar(Star Trek: Voyager[episode "Displaced"],
Lethal Weapon II & III, The Avengers[2012]), Tippi
Hedron(The Bids)!!! A
EPISODE # 12: EMILY BY HART(Jan. 11, 1983):
Jonathan surprises Jennifer by whisking her away on
a 36 hours vacation!! While there she runs into a man
who was friends with a woman that was in a class that
Jennifer held for aspiring reporters who killed herself!!
One thing leads to another, and the man starts getting
suspicious about his partner, and Jennifer is definitely
disturbed by the news about the woman(Emily)!!
Guest stars in this are Gary Lockwood(Star Trek: TOS
[episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before], Star Trek:
Equinox["The Night Of Time"], 2001: A Space Odyssey!),
Andrew Robinson(Star Trek: DS9[as Emile Garak])!! A
EPISODE # 13: POUNDING HARTS(Jan. 18, 1983):
The Harts are in Malapique(which doesn't really appear
to exist!!), and getting ready to head out! They have Freeway
and another woman also heading out on the same ship
also has a dog!! Both are in dog carriers that look identical!
Only thing is, the other woman's also has a load of cocaine
in it!!!! Of course they get mixed up, and the fun begins!!
Guest starring Edward Winter(M*A*S*H, Project UFO))!! A
EPISODE # 14: CHAMBER OF LOST HARTS(Feb. 1, 1983):
A geologist for Hart Industries and his guide are killed in Paru
and it looks like the job of local tribes!! However, we already
know who it is, and it ain't them!! Jonathan and Jennifer want
to know what's going on, so to Peru they go, to be greeted
by non-other than the killer, unbeknownst to them!! And
the games afoot!!!
This episode seems really short!! Probably because it is so
good!!
This has a few good guests in it: Ceasar Romero(The Joker
in the 1966 version of Batman), Henry Darrow(Star Trek:
Voyager[in two episodes as Kolopak], Star Trek: TNG[Conspiracy],
Zorro[1990 series]), Gary Frank(Star Trek: DS9[episode "Children
of Time"])!!! A+
EPISODE # 15: HARTS ON THE SCENT(Feb. 15, 1983):
Hart Industries is buying out a perfume company, when the
owner decides not to sell!! His wife, however, has other ideas
and immediately offs the old man by way of a canine accomplice!
It's all done with chemicals, and of course Jonathan gets some
on his clothes and Freeway attacks him!! This puts Jonathan and
Jennifer on the scent!!
Guesting in this is Diana Muldaur(Star Trek: TOS[2 episodes],
Star Trek: TNG[As Dr. Pulaski in season 2], McCloud, Quincy)! A
EPISODE # 16: BAHAMA BOUND HARTS(Feb. 22, 1983):
The Harts are in the Bahamas for a party that a very rich
recluse is throwing for an opening of his newest resort!!
It becomes obvious that his "right hand man" is out
to bleed him dry!!
Guest stars include: Andrew Duggan(Backstairs At The
White House, 12 O'Clock High), Robert Hooks(Star Trek III:
The Search For Spock, Backstairs At The White House),
Sue Ann Langdon(Roustabout, Frankie And Johnny, Bachelor
Father), Bubba Smith(Football player[Baltimore Colts, Houston
Oilers, Oakland Raiders]) A
EPISODE # 17: AS THE HART TURNS(Mar. 1, 1983):
Max buys some raffle tickets for Jennifer at a charity
event!! She wins!! It's a walk on part on a top rated
soap on tv!! She does good, and gives an idea about
the show, and she's received so well that they hire her
to help write the show!!
This guest stars several soap stars, including:
Peter Brown(Days Of Our Lives), John McCook
(The Young And The Restless, The Bold And The
Beautiful), Alex Henteloff(Star Trek IV: The Voyage
Home), Louis Giambalvo(Star Trek: Voyager[episode
"Non-Sequitur"], Knots Landing), Leann Hunley(Days
Of Our Lives), Lanna Saunders(Days Of Our Lives),
Louise Lewis(General Hospital)!! A
EPISODE # 18: THE WAYWARD HART(Mar. 8, 1983):
Max's annual Vegas trip is coming up and the Harts
give him a present to enjoy on the trip!! Max gets a
little upset and decides to take a detour to parts
unknown!! Problem is that the gift that Jonathan
and Jennifer give Max turns out to be poisoned!!!
Guest starring the very famous Amanda Blake
(Gunsmoke)!! A
EPISODE # 19: A CHANGE OF HART(Mar. 22, 1983):
Jonathan is taken hostage by a lady assassin who's
just shot an important political figure!! She however
thinks that his name is Max, as he was in the drivers
seat when she runs out to the street to catch her
escape vehicle!! Turns out that Jonathan is also on
the hit list!!
This is by far the least of all the Hart To Hart episodes!!
The acting is very stiff, the story had its merits, but the
whole time I kept thinking, when is it going to start
being its usual great show!! Never did!!
Guest starring Julie Newmar(My Living Doll, Batman(1966)
[as Catwoman]. Star Trek: TOS[episode "Friday's Child"])!
Unfortunately she is REALLY bad in this!! B-
EPISODE # 20: HARTSTRUCK(Apr. 12, 1983):
Jonathan is kind to a woman he meets at the restaurant
and she immediately falls head over heels for him!! She,
it turns out, is nuts!!!! This becomes very evident, especially
after she offs a couple of Jonathan's employees and then
turns her attentions to Jennifer!! Better than the last episode,
but still not up to the previous greatness!! B+
EPISODE # 21: TOO CLOSE TO HART(May 3, 1983):
There's a rash of robberies happening in the Harts
neighborhood!! The Harts have keys to their neighbor's
house and vice versa!! The owners of the house next
door are on a safari, and some other people are staying
at their house! It becomes obvious that there is foul
happenings afoot!!! This returns to the type of Hart To
Hart that we all expect!! A
EPISODE # 22: A LIGHTER HART(May 10, 1983):
Jennifer's cousin shows up for a visit, and she's excited
about a new weight loss program that helps her lose
weight and feel great!! Problem is that she use to be a drug
addict, and she's now feeling the same sensations that
she use to feel while on drugs!!
Last show of the season! A
From a reviewer at IMDb.com:
Spoiler warning: Don't get too attached to the Harts' friends. Pretty
high mortality count by the end of most episodes!
Seriously, it's Nick and Nora Charles Lite, but with Spelling Productions
you're expecting something profound or fiendish mystery plot twists?
But Spelling always knew how to entertain, and he also had a knack of
hiring top acting professionals. The charm and talent of the three leads
here (the dog Freeway isn't bad either) is obviously the biggest factor
in the show's success. And Spelling did have a knack for great opening
sequences, and Hart to Hart is no exception.
So if you're looking to unwind from the pressure of a tough day, turning
on Cozi or Hallmark Mystery to spend a couple hours with Jennifer and
Jonathan and Max wouldn't be your worst choice for
diversion. - Gary L. Thompson
