the episodes including the two TV movies, The Hound Of The
Baskerville and The Sign Of Four!
EPISODE 1: A SCHANDAL IN BOHEMIA(Apr. 24, 1984):
Watson tells the tale of how Holmes met up with Irene Adler! A-
EPISODE 2: THE DANCING MEN(May 01, 1984):
A man comes to Holmes stating that his wife is acting strangely
when she sees the "dancing men"! A+
EPISODE 3: THE NAVAL TREATY(May 08, 1984):
A man is killed in a nearby castle, complete with moat and all!! Seems
pretty cut and dried, as there was no way into the house as the gate
was up which meant that the moat was full!! A
EPISODE # 4: THE SOLITARY CYCLIST(May 15, 1984):
A young woman comes to Holmes for help in someone following her as
she cycles back and forth to her work, teaching a well-to-do man's
daughter to play the piano! B+
EPISODE # 5: THE CROOKED MAN(May 22, 1984):
This one is about a man who goes into a room with his wife and
locks the door! There's an arguement and once others are able to
get inside the room they find the man dead and the woman feighnted!
It is naturally assumed that the woman killed her husband! But of
course nothing is as it seems when it comes to Sherlock Holmes and
it's quite enjoyable watching Sherlock work his magic! A
EPISODE # 6: THE SPEKLED BAND(May 29, 1984):
A woman comes to Holmes with a story about her mother dying,
her sister dying, and her father being abusive! She tells Holmes
that she fears for her life!! A
EPISODE # 7: THE BLUE CARBUNCLE(June 05, 1984):
This was a Christmas episode!
Yup, the blue carbuncle has been stolen and Holmes gets on
case! You kinda hope the stone is gone forever!!
Meanwhile, a copper comes upon a hat and a goose(dead) and
comes to Holmes for advice! Don't worry, the two incidences
come together! A
EPISODE # 8: THE COPPER BEECHES(Aug. 25, 1985):
A young lady comes to Holmes for advice on whether to take a job
as a governess for a very strange family! She has made up her mind
already, so I'm not really sure why she went to Holmes! I guess to
make it a Sherlock Holmes story! LOL! A
EPISODE # 9: THE GREEK INTERPRETER(Sept. 01, 1985):
An interpreter(duh) is "politely requested" to help out to interpret
a Greek "guest" of theirs!! He is released and he goes to Holmes for
advice!!
The first appearance of Mycroft, Shelock's older brother!
After doing some reading it was pointed out the the ending here
is considerably different than the actual story by Doyle!! A
EPISODE # 10: THE NORWOOD BUILDER(Sept. 08, 1985):
A rather well-to-do retired archetect comes to a solicitor to
write up a will for him, naming the self-same solicitor as the
heir! The retired gentleman gets killed and the solicior
is pegged as the main suspect!!
This episode has the first appearance of Lt. Lastrade! A
EPISODE # 11: THE RESIDENT PATIENT(Sept. 15, 1985):
A man, apparently quite well off, goes to a doctor with an unusual
proposition: he would remodle the man's whole house and finance his
doctor's practice for a place to live for himself and 3/4 of the income!
This gentleman suddenly starts having nightmares about his impending
doom and goes off the deep end, causing the doctor to have some
misgivings about the whole affair and he goes to Holmes for advice! A
EPISODE # 12: THE RED HEADED LEAGUE(Sept. 22, 1985):
A man gets hired to copy the whole Encyclopidia Britanica just
because he has red hair! He works for them for some weeks and then
one day the office closes up without warning! He goes to Holmes to
find out answers!!
This has the first appearance of Moriarty(Eric Porter)! A
EPISODE # 13: THE FINAL PROBLEM(Sept. 29, 1985):
A real cat and mouse battle between Holmes and Moriarty!!
Surprisingly, there is nudity here!!
Eric Porter returns as Moriarty!
This is the last episode of the first series entitled "The Adventures
Of Sherlock Holmes"! Also the last episode for David Burke as Watson! A
From a reviewer at IMDb.com:
This series was indeed the best I've seen for accuracy to Sir
Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes character and novels. The
settings are superb, the plots are true and Jeremy Brett is
excellent as Holmes.
It is well worth your while to see this and other Holmes series
(Return of Sherlock Holmes, Memoirs ... etc). - nodak-2
