SPACE 1999 - SEASON ONE PAGE(1975)

SPACE 1999 - SEASON ONE(1975)

After the success(?) of Star Trek, this was the next best
sci-fi show on TV! Starring Martin Landau(Mission: Impossible)
and his real-life wife Barbara Bain(also Mission: Impossible)
this was about the only sc-fi to watch on TV!

Sadly, there are two glaring problems with this set's release:
there are NO closed captions, and the episodes are NOT presented
in airing order on the DVDs!! But since this release was in 2007,
it's almost forgivable!

EPISODE 1: BREAKAWAY(Oct. 3, 1983)
(Disc 1):

This first episode introduces us to the main characters for
season one: Commander John Koenig, Dr. Helena Russell, Prof.
Victor Bergman, Alan Carter, Sandra Benes & others!

In this episode we see how the moon got thrown off it's orbit
from a big explsion! A-

EPISODE 2: FORCE OF LIFE(Oct. 10, 1983)
(Disc 3):

This is more of a mystery than sci-fi, as there's been a
"thing" that has affected the people on the moon, causing
one of them to experience extreme cold and if they touch
someone they freeze to death!! Seeral plot flaws in this
episode! B

EPISODE 3: COLLISION COURSE(Oct. 17, 1983)
(Disc 5):

After blowing up an asteroid that was headed for the moon,
Eagle One who had dropped off the explosives is disables
and the commander and Paul go out to rescue the pilot when
they discover that a planet is aimed straight at them! A

EPISODE # 4: WAR GAMES(Oct. 24, 1983)
(Disc 6):

The Moonbase is under attack with several casualties - or
is it?! A

EPISODE # 5: DEATH'S OTHER DOMINION(Oct. 31, 1983)
(Disc 5):

Several of the Moon survivors find people alive on an
ice planet!

Guest starring Brian Blessed(High Road To China, Flash
Gordon[1980], Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves, The Hound
Of The Baskervilles[1983])! A

EPISODE # 6: VOYAGER'S RETURN(Nov. 7, 1983)
(Disc 4):

Ok, this is an interesting episode: Voyager 1 is headed
straight for the Moon! Voyager 1 waan't sent out into
space until 1977! This seems pretty profetic to me!!

Anyway, the group have to decide what to do with the
craft, as they have found out that it destroyed several
planets!

Guest starring Jeremy Kemp(The Adventures Of Sherlock
Holmes[TV], Star Trek: TNG episode "Family") A

EPISODE # 7: ALPHA CHILD(Nov. 14, 1983)
(Disc 4):

The first baby born on the station is a happy occasion,
until - - - - -!

Think "The Child" from Star Trek: TNG!

This guest stars Julian Glover(Indiana Jones And The Last
Crusade, For Your Eyes Only, Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes
Back)!! A

EPISODE # 8: DRAGON'S DOMAIN(Nov. 28, 1983)
(Disc 8):

A former Eagle pilot is having nightmares about a mission
wherein all of the crew were killed but him! He tells his
story to his superiors who find his story unbelievabe and
he is disgraced! Welp as stories are wont to go, the crew
come upon the same being!! A-

EPISODE # 9: MISSION OF THE DARIANS(Dec. 5, 1983)
(Disc 8):

The crew run into another ship that's VERY large and find
a race of people who have survived on the ship for hundreds
of years! Just how did they do it???!!

Guest starring Joan Collins(Star Trek: TOS episode "The City
On The Edge Of Forever", The Road To Hong Kong, Dynasty)!! A

EPISODE # 10: BLACK SUN(Dec. 18, 1983)
(Disc 1):

Bet you never guess what the Moon is headed toward!!! A

EPISODE # 11: GAURDIAN OF THE PIRI(Jan. 9, 1984)
(Disc 3):

The Moon has now happened upon a planet that seems
like paradise, but the captain ain't buying it!! Everyone
leaves to move there except him, and he has to figure out
just what the score is!

Very similar to the "spore" episode of Star Trek: TOS("This
Side Of Paradise")! A

EPISODE # 12: END OF ETERNITY(Jan. 16, 1984)
(Disc 6):

The ship takes on a madman!! B-

EPISODE # 13: MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH(Jan. 30, 1984)
(Disc 1):

While investigating another planet, the group find
what appears Dr. Russell's(Barbara Bain) long thought
dead husband! A

EPISODE 14: EARTHBOUND(Feb. 6, 1984)
(Disc 2):

The group are visited by a ship headed to Earth! In it,
all the passengers are in a state of suspended annimation!
There are those who would like to go with them, but Koenig
is against it!!

Guest starring Christopher Lee(THE Christopher Lee!!)! A

EPISODE 15: THE FULL CIRCLE(Feb. 13, 1984)
(Disc 5):

This is stupid! The crew land on an Earth like planet
where some of them revert back to cavemen/women! Long
periods of no dialogue!!! D

EPISODE 16: ANOTHER TIME, ANOTHER PLACE(Feb. 27, 1984)
(Disc 2):

If you can't come up with a good story, just throw in a
bunch of screaming!! This is about a duplicate moon and
the troubles it brings to the crew! C

EPISODE 17: THE LAST SUNSET(Mar. 5, 1984)
(Disc 4):

As the Moon approaches another Earth-like planet, they
recieve gifts, thinking that they are being welcomed! A

EPISODE # 18: THE INFERNAL MACHINE(Mar. 19, 1984)
(Disc 7):

This one had possibilities, but it petered out at the end! B-

EPISODE # 19: RING AROUND THE MOON(Mar. 26, 1984)
(Disc 2):

The eye is watching you, and the Moon base!!! A

EPISODE # 20: MISSING LINK(Apr. 23, 1984)
(Disc 3):

OMG!!! These are getting stupider and stupider! As I
said previously, if you can't come up with a good story,
just have everyone scream! What a waste of Peter Cushing!

This guest stars Peter Cushing(THE Peter Cushing)!! D

EPISODE # 21: SPACE BRAIN(May 7, 1984)
(Disc 7):

While not as bad as the last couple, this is pretty
stupid! Beware the soap bubbles!!! C

EPISODE # 22: THE TROUBLED SPIRIT(Mar. 19, 1984)
(Disc 7):

Actually a pretty decent episode, though not as good as the
first few! The episode is about a spirit that has taken over
one of the scientist! B

EPISODE # 23: THE TESTIMENT OF ARKADIA(Mar. 26, 1984)
(Disc 8):

This is pretty good! Kind of an Adam and Eve story
in space! A

EPISODE # 24: THE LAST ENIMY(Apr. 23, 1984)
(Disc 6):

I don't like war stories! Not even space war stories, which
is what this is! The Moon becomes an unwilling tool in the
war between two planets that have been at war for a very long
time! B

From a reviewer at IMDb.com:

I remember watching this in the 70s on a cold day, and I was
captivated by the spaceships and wanted a model ship but couldn't
afford it and there was no internet to purchase it from.

Anyway, I always wondered about the uniforms. What did they
wear for pyjamas? Or were they wearing pyjamas as an in-joke?
Who were the cooks, the tradies, the IT support, the HR team
in Space: 1999?

I'd love for a reboot of Space:1999 with acclaimed British
actor Danny Dyer. - safenoe
