THE CLOSER SEASON 4
This stars Kyra Sedgewick as a overly hard as nails
Deputy Chief of homicide!! This carries on the mood
from the first season with Kyra still very hard to like!!
But still the other cast members make this palatable!!
EPISODE # 1: CONTROLLED BURN(July 14, 2008):
The group is dealing with not only an arsonist, but a
Time's reporter who does nothing to help the investigation!!! B+
EPISODE # 2: SPEED BUMP(July 21, 2008):
A man is found run over in an alley!! Turns out to be an ex-con
who's been staying in a half way house!! Several suspects with
the chief ones being the parents of the girl that he killed several
years back!!
Side note: Fritz hurts his back while fooling around with
Brenda!! A
EPISODE # 3: CHERRY BOMB(July 28, 2008):
A 16 year old girl is found hanged to death in her room by her
parents!! Seems pretty cut and dried suicide, but Flynn takes
Johnson aside and tells her that he'd had contact with the girl
before in a rape case! He believes this could be a murder! A
EPISODE # 4: LIVE WIRE(Aug. 4, 2008):
A man carrying a recording wire is found dead in an alley, and
no one seems to know why or where he came from! This leads
to a difference in opinion between Fritz and Johnson!!
Again, the asshole that is the character of Brenda Johnson comes
out full blown in this one!! God I hate that!!! A-
EPISODE # 5: DIAL "M" FOR PROVENZA(Aug. 11, 2008):
Provenza goes undercover to set up a woman trying to kill
her husband!! While doing the deed, evidence gets stolen,
along with Provenza's car!!!
There is a lot of humor in this one!!
Guest starring Jennifer Coolidge(2 Broke Girls, Joey, American
Pie, Legally Blonde)!! A
EPISODE # 6: PROBLEM CHILD(Aug. 18, 2008):
A thirteen year old boy is missing!! He's a foster son of a family
and seems to have a lot of mental problems!! A-
EPISODE # 7: SUDDEN DEATH(Aug. 25, 2008):
Detective Sanchez's little brother gets gunned down in the street
while walking in front of his house with his girlfriend!! Another gang
episode, with a twist! B+
EPISODE # 8: SPLIT ENDS(Sept. 1, 2008):
The folks are back! And they're looking for a wedding date!!
As for the case, a hairdresser at a Hollywood studio is murdered
at the studio, and everything points to her actor ex-husband!! A
EPISODE # 9: TIJUANA BRASS(Sept. 8, 2008):
A couple of detectives from Mexico are found shot to death
with the help of a priest that calls in the murders! This is of
course handed over to Priority Homicide, which Brenda finds
out is going to be dismantled immediately!! A
EPISODE # 10: TIME BOMB(Sept. 15, 2008):
A boy is found dead with shrapnel in him and a pipe bomb
beside him!! This leads the team to his high school where
the team uncovers a conspiracy for mass murder!! A
EPISODE # 11: GOOD FAITH(Jan. 26, 2009):
The parents are back again, and helping Brenda prepare for
her upcoming wedding!! As for the case, a case of suicide
is questioned, and treated as a murder!!
And to make things more complicated, Brenda's father has
a heart attack!! A
EPISODE # 12: JUNK IN THE TRUNK(Feb. 2, 2009):
A lot of fat jokes here!! A very large man who worked at a
jewelers and who stole a lot of diamonds ends up dead inside
the trunk of his car!! B+
EPISODE # 13: POWER OF ATTORNEY(Feb. 9, 2009):
A woman is found dead in her home after a prowler call to
911!! A guy is seen running away from the house, an obvious
suspect! This goes to court where Brenda appears to have met
her match!!
This is an incredibly unfulfilling episode!!
Guest starring in this is James Patrick Stuart(Babylon 5: In The
Beginning, Galactica 1980)!! Also guest starring here in his
first of three appearances is Billy Burke(Star Trek: DS9 episode
Second Skin, Twilight series of movies) as Attorney Phillip Stroh! B
EPISODE # 14: FATE LINE(Feb. 16, 2009):
This is pretty convoluted!! A convicted litterbug is helping clean
up a stretch of highway when he stumbles upon a burner cell
phone!! On the phone are many text messages about killing
someone! He takes it to our heroes and they start working on
it to see if there's anything to the whole thing!
On a personal note, Fritz's sister is in town to help out with
the wedding plans! She has declared that her new calling is
as a psychic!! B+
EPISODE # 15: DOUBLE BLIND(Feb. 23, 2009):
Brenda, Fritz and family are getting prepared for their wedding
when Fritz gets called away on a drug case!! And Brenda takes
off to the office to help out with a murder that involves an escort
service! A

From a reviewer at IMDb.com:
This show caught my attention on Netflix because Kyra
Sedgwick is so peculiar in the first season I had to see it
through. Watching her eat her ding dong in episode 1
= the same in season 1's finale, and in conjunction with
her character showing what I consider some dynamic
acting ability in becoming Brenda the flake who may
border on genius in her job lacks in the personal
relations department tremendously.
After 3 seasons though I think it is a good show that
I'm assuming will grow since it ran for as many seasons
as it did. I will likely update this review when I've seen
the whole series as who knows where it might land. If
each season simply plods along where we are I will
downgrade my rating as there is plenty of room for
growth. But how they achieve it will determine that
and I have to experience it to rate it.
So far I think the show is good and has moments of
showing potential for better but will just have to hope
to enjoy the ride as I watch the rest of the seasons
(hopefully!). But if your pondering watching it, do
so, it is what having Amazon Prime worth the money
(getting to watch the prime video movies and shows
for a price competitive with Netflix but higher quality
and more dependable). - scott_weishaar
