STAR TREK: CONTINUES #1: PILGRIM OF ETERNITY PAGE

STAR TREK: CONTINUES #1:
PILGRIM OF ETERNITY(2013)

Ok, I've watched all of the Star Trek: The New Voyages episodes
which for the most part are excellent and decided to give this a
try!! As Captain Kirk we have Vic Mignogna, Todd Haberkorn
as Spock, Larry Nemecek as Dr. McCoy, and as Montgomery
Scott Chris Doohan(Yep, Jimmy's son!!)! Chris does a very
good job as Scotty, and Vic does a pretty good job as Jim!
But Todd and Larry are not as good as I would hope they
would be in such iconic roles!! Certainly not up to the standards
set by Jeffrey Quinn and John Kelley in TNV!! And honestly, Grant
does fine until he actually has to act!

A continuation of the Star Trek: TOS episode "Who Mourns
For Adonais", the Starship Enterprise runs into an unknown
ship that is syphoning off the energy of not only the Enterprise
but anything that emits energy anywhere!! When the only
option left to the captain and the crew is to try to destroy
the ship before they are destroyed, two inhabitants on
the ship show up on the bridge!! Apollo and Athena!!

Michael Forest returns to his role that he made famous
in the episode "Who Mourns For Adonais"!!

The production qualities here are just as good as, if not
better than, those of TNV!! And having a returning iconic
character in the return of Apollo just makes this a little
better than I expected!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain James T.
Kirk, Lt. Montgomery Scott, Commander Spock, Lt. Hikaru Sulu,
Ensign Pavel Chekov, Dr. Leonard McCoy, Lt. Uhura, Dr. Elise
McKennah(!!)!

An unnecessary addition to the crew is Dr. McKennah, totally
distracting! A-

From an IMDb.com customer:

An impressive work for a fan film. Duplicates the look of
TOS, and an enjoyable story. On of the best fan films I
have seen. I Like the fact that they brought back the original
actor who played Apollo. The sets had that same cheesy
look from the original series, the costumes, sets and
spacesuits were dead on. They also used the original
cues and soundtracks from TOS. Chris Doohan plays
his father's role, as Scottie. Grant Imahara from
myth-busters plays Sulu. It looks like a lot of time
and effort was put into this film, and for no monetary
gain. It would be nice if CBS brought this to regular
TV again. There are few good SciFi shows on TV. Most
shows billing themselves as scifi are actually
Fantasy. - Mysticz Worleyz

STAR TREK: CONTINUES #2: LOLANI PAGE

STAR TREK: CONTINUES #2:
LOLANI(2014)

Vic and Todd do much better in this one than the first!!
Larry is better, but still just doesn't pull off the Dr. McCoy
character yet! We don't see Scotty much, and Chekov is
totally missing in this!

With ties again to the Star Trek: TOS series, the Enterprise
meets up with an unknown vessel who has one passenger
and the ship's life support is failing!! So they opt to beam
over the inhabitant and find an Orion slave girl(you know,
the green girls from the episode "The Cage" with Susan
Oliver as the Orion, as well as the episode "Whom Gods
Destroy", with Yvonne Craig[Batgirl] as an Orion)! In this
case, the girl is apparently a runaway slave who's just
trying to get her freedom!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain James T.
Kirk, Lt. Uhura, Lt. Hikaru Sulu, Commander Spock, Dr.
Leonard McCoy, Dr. Elise McKennah & Lt. Montgomery Scott!

No Ensign Pavel Chekov!

This guest stars non-other than Lou Ferrigno(The Hulk)!!
Also guest starring is Fiona Vroom(Lolani) who does a
tremendous job here and Matthew Ewald(Kenway)!!

Erin Gray(Buck Rogers) also guest stars in her first of
two guest starring roles(the other being "Embracing The
Wind"!)!

This is an incredibly powerful story!! Very well written
with a message that is one that will withstand the sands
of time!!! Truly a testament to the Star Trek lore!!! A+

From an IMDb.com customer:

I decided to catch an episode of the fan-made series "Star
Trek Continues," mainly because of guest star Lou Ferrigno,
who starred in a movie I produced (Liberator). Frankly, I
didn't have very high expectations; as most fan vehicles
contain a sincerity-to-professionalism ratio of roughly 90
to 10.

Man, was I wrong! They NAILED every technical detail.
Sets, costumes, cinematography, & VFX are all so close
to TOS that the differences are virtually negligible, even
on my 60 inch TV.

"Lolani" concerns the Orion slave trade, capturing the
essence of TOS with heavily-laden metaphors. On a
scriptwriting level, it falls somewhere between Season
3 episodes "Let That be Your Last Battlefield" (remember
Frank Gorshin and his stark B&W makeup???) and "The
Cloud Miners." Being that Miners dealt with capitalism
and Battlefield dealt with race, for "Lolani" to compare
favorably (both thematically and technically) this episode
had a really high bar they had to climb.

Lou is formidable (and once again, GREEN!) He would've
fit right in as a regular villain in TOS, had he been the
right age for the role in 1969. He only has a handful
of dramatic scenes, and his fight is not particularly
convincing – but that's mainly due to the outcome,
not the staging (which reflects TOS to a tee).

Vic Mignogna plays Kirk straight; minus Shatnerisms.
He makes excellent dramatic choices that define classic
Kirk. I just wish the register of his voice was lower.

Spock & McCoy don't fare as well. Spock has a highly
reduced role in this episode, which is fine because
Todd Haberkorn really doesn't have the gravitas
to pull it off, especially a mind-meld. As Bones,
Larry Nemecek also has very little to do, and could
have been crankier. Should another episode prove
to be heavily dependent on the classic "trio interaction,"
I think it might get uncomfortable to watch them struggle....

The rest of the acting is *meh.* Keeping in mind that
the original supporting cast in TOS were not especially
good actors to begin with, I guess I shouldn't be TOO
disappointed. While these actors have a far way to go
to, it's the OVERALL product I'm reviewing, so I'll give
STC the benefit of the doubt and catch a few more.
They can only get better!

All in all, STSC is a high quality effort that I enjoyed
FAR MORE than the last Trek feature film. Give it
a shot! - quickwatson

STAR TREK: CONTINUES #3: FAIREST OF THEM ALL PAGE

STAR TREK: CONTINUES #3:
FAIREST OF THEM ALL(2014)

Another continuation show, this one takes the ending of
"Mirror Mirror" and poses a "what-if" scenario where we
see what happens after the return of the alternate Kirk,
Sulu, Uhura, Scotty & Bones to their ship!! Even the beginning
theme has the alternate universe feel to it!! Vic and Todd
do much better as alternate Kirk and Spock!! Chris is again
quite good, Kim Stinger does well as Uhura and Wyatt returns
as Chekov and is great in his limited showing here! We have
a new McCoy in Chuck Huber, who doesn't really do a lot
but I don't see a much better match here than the previous
McCoy, Larry Nemecek!!

Spock is taking to our reality's Kirk's advice that their
empire is destined to failure!! When alternate Kirk
returns, Spock decides it's time for action!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Alternate Commander
Spock, Captain James T. Kirk, Lt. Montgomery Scott, Alternate
Captain James T. Kirk, Alternate Lt. Montgomery Scott, Alternate
Lt. Uhura, Alternate Ensign Pavel Chekov, Alternate Dr. Leonard
McCoy, Alternate Lt. Hikaru Sulu & Alternate Dr. McKennah!

This guest stars Bobby Clark(TOS' Gorn in the episode "Arena")
and Michael Dorn as the computer voice!!

This is another great story, but quite short(at only 40
minutes)!!!!! A

From an IMDb.com customer:

Like so many, I have watched Star Trek and all its
various incarnations since I was a wee lad, and love
it to pieces. I have to say I haven't been super-impressed
by the Trek Phase 2/Continues/what have you. While I
certainly admire the zeal of the actors and crew, especially
the designers and others for faithfully recreating the
original sets, much of what I've seen has been, well, OK.
Until this episode, that is. Sure, one could nitpick some
fine points, but for the most part this is a terrific yarn.
Good writing, acting, everything. One thing that drives
me crazy about many of the other fan episodes is poor
choice of accompanying music from the original series
scores. But not with this this episode. Never once did
I think "Why did they choose THIS piece of music for
this scene?" In fact, I barely noticed the music at all,
which means that it integrates seamlessly with, and
enhances, what's on the screen. One other problem
that many of the other episodes has is poor camera
focus. The operator focused on the background, not
on the subject, which is annoying as heck. But hey,
it's pretty much a volunteer crew -- or are they actually
paying for the privilege? Sorry, I digress. One thing
they should have done in this episode is in the final
scene when Spock takes the captain's chair in his
new command gold uniform shirt, Uhura and the
navigator should also have changed -- into traditional
(and not quite so revealing) Trek uniforms, to signify
that women in this alternate universe are now not
so overly sexualized. Regardless, bravo and three
cheers to the cast, crew, writers, etc of this
episode! - larrytheradioguy
