STAR TREK: THE NEW VOYAGES - PILOT - COME WHAT MAY(2004)
This is dedicated to the crew of the doomed shuttle
Columbia!
The first episode of the New Voyages of the Starship
Enterprise!! The brainchild of the star, James Cawley,
this is suppose to be picking up where the original
Star Trek series left off, and does a good job of it!!
While some of the new cast of the old characters
take some getting use to, Mr. Cawley does a bang
up job as Captain James T. Kirk, even pulling off
a lot of William Shatner's mannerisms!!
This first episode, which was actually called a pilot,
has our intrepid group of space voyagers taking on,
what else, some unknown entity that is threatening
their quadrant of space! It's up to Jim and the crew
to find out what's going on and take care of the
problem! During their contact with the alien life called
Ohn, each of the crew experiences flash-forwards to the
future, which may or may not come true!!
The other enemy in this looks suspiciously like a pyramid
Borg ship!
It is unfortunate that this episode is visually impaired!
I know that when I watched it from the site it was very
impressive!
After watching Star Trek Continues, this first episode
is really sub-par to Continues! However, I know that TNV
really picks up speed as it goes along!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain James T.
Kirk, Lt. Uhura, Lt. Rand, Commander Spock, Lt. DeSalle,
Ensign Pavel Chekov, Dr. Leonard McCoy, Lt. Montgomery
Scott & Nurse Christine Chapel!
Lt. Hikaru Sulu is explained away as being at Starfleet
for command training!
Guest starring here are several alumni from the original
series, including John Winston(who played Lt. Kyle in 11
episodes) & Eddie Pasky(Lt. Leslie in over 60 episodes of
the original series, and here is now called Admiral Leslie!)!
Also here is Larry Nemecek, who played Dr. McCoy in Star
Trek: Continues in the first two episodes of that series! A-
From an IMDb.com customer:
Let's start with saying I am very grateful to these guys
for continuing Star Trek original series. But first episode
did not reach to same level as Tos,not even close if I'm
honest. Sets, effects and sound remains very much of tos.
But acting could be far better. I can forgive Cawley for
his Elvis hair which is his other job performing as Elvis,
because he does quite good ''kirk acting'' even if he
doesn't look like James T. Kirk. And actors who play
Bones and spock does fairly good. But the rest, John
M. Kelley does not do a good acting as Scotty, accent
is so bad, and he does not remind scotty at all. And
how the heck is Janice Randy now so high rank?!? And
the actor is a bit annoying answering questions before
kirk for example.
The plot is a mess too sadly. We have onabi an ohn
aliens on the ship causing chaos, and chaos it is to the
watchers too. They are leading some of the crew to
seeing parts of the future and making chooses now.
This series has potential, but this was not a good start,
but neither a terrible. - Johan-smedjebacka
