STAR TREK: THE NEW VOYAGES:
THE WORLD ENOUGH AND TIME(2007)
While trying to rescue a stranded ship in the Romulan
neutral zone, the Enterprise gets attacked by 3 Bird of
prey! While they are taken care of by the Enterprise,
they are caught in a temporal rift that causes ripples in
time! This causes Sulu and computer science expert
Lisa Chambers to try to go to one of the Romulan ships
for information on how to get back to Federation
space when an accident whisks them away!!
BTW, there is no explanation given to Checkov being
mysteriously back to life after his death in the
last episode!!!!!
This is far and away the best episode of Star Trek
in any form since the great St:TOS episode "The
City On The Edge Of Forever"!!!
Another long episode, again over an hour!
This episode has, in order of appearance: The REAL Commmander
Janice Rand, The REAL Captain Hikaru Sulu, Lt. Sulu, Captain
James T. Kirk, Commander Spock, Lt. Uhura, Ensign Chekov, Lt.
Montgomery Scott, Dr. Leonard McCoy & Lt. DeSalle!
Guest starring here are, of course, George Takei, along with
Grace Lee Whitney and, as the computer voice, Majel Barrett!! A++
From an IMDb.com customer:
For a fan production, this is astonishingly good --
but that qualification is needed. Judged by professional
standards, there are serious problems here, not least
some of the acting. Charles Root's is probably the worst
attempt at a Scottish accent that I've ever heard (I'd
not have placed its supposed origin if I hadn't already
known that this was Scotty), and it sometimes makes
him difficult to understand. James Cawley's facial
rictus when he speaks lines meant to be commanding
or decisive or emotional can provoke amusement at
the most inappropriate times. The rest of the main
cast ranges from acceptable to good (Julienne Irons -
who deserved more screen time - and Christina Moses
are both at the upper end, followed closely by Jeffery
Quinn).
George Takei stands out, of course -- and by normal
standards it would have been a mistake to include
him, as he serves to accentuate the limitations of
some of the rest of the cast. But normal standards
don't apply. This is a fan production, with a budget
to match, and one can and should overlook much.
On its own terms, this is a brilliant achievement,
and I was unable to overlook only Charles Root's
murder by slow suffocation of the Scottish
accent. - Peter J. King
