STAR TREK - THE ORIGINAL SERIES SEASON 1(1966)
SPACE, THE FINAL FRONTIER! THESE ARE THE VOYAGES
OF THE STARSHIP: ENTERPRISE! IT'S FIVE YEAR MISSION:
TO EXPLORE STRANGE NEW WORLDS, TO SEEK OUT NEW
LIFE AND NEW CIVILIZATIONS, TO BOLDLY GO WHERE NO
MAN HAS GONE BEFORE!!
With that starts the one that started it all!! This first season
has all the familiar crew members in it, except Ensign
Pavel Chekov!! A really interesting point here, there are
a few actors who were in episodes far greater than Chekov
was in, but he became a much bigger part of the lore than
any of those!!
EPISODE 1: THE MAN TRAP(Sept. 8, 1966):
In this, the first episode aired, the story revolves around
an old flame of Dr. McCoy's who's on a desolate planet
with her husband! Captain Kirk and McCoy beam down
to do a routine medical check on the two along with another
crewman when said crewman ends up dead!! Very strange
tale!!
This first aired episode has, in order of appearance: Mr. Spock,
Lt. Uhura, Captain James T. Kirk, Dr. Leonard McCoy, Yeoman
Janice Rand & Lt. Hikaru Sulu!! A
EPISODE 2: CHARLIE X(Sept. 15, 1966):
A young boy who was alone on a planet for many years
after everyone else had been killed, including his parents,
is dropped off to the Enterprise which is heading toward
a planet that has some of his relatives living on it!! Charlie
is his name, and he's very socially awkward, as well as
being quick tempered and equipped with a talent that
no one knows about until it's too late!!
Uhura makes her singing debut here, as well as Spock
playing his harpish instrument!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Yeoman Rand, Dr. McCoy, Lt. Uhura, Mr. Spock & Lt. Sulu!! A
EPISODE 3: WHERE NO MAN HAS GONE BEFORE(Sept. 22, 1966):
While researching what happened to a long lost ship
who's recorder has been found, the Enterprise and
crew head out of the Galaxy!! This proves to be a very
dangerous move, as when they hit the "barrier" between
our galaxy and the space beyond the ship gets battered
and several crew members are killed! Not only that, but
two of the members, Gary Mitchell(Lockwood) and Dr.
Elizabeth Dehner(Kellerman), show a marked increase
in telepathic abilities!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Mr. Spock, Lt. Montgomery Scott & Lt. Sulu!!
Guest starring here is Paul Fix(The Riffleman, After The
Thin Man, Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon),
Gary Lockwood (The Lieutenant, 2001: A Space Odyssey)
and Sally Kellerman(M*A*S*H*[the movie], Back To
School)!!! A
EPISODE 4: THE NAKED TIME(Sept. 29, 1966):
The ship is at a planet that's falling apart, and while
trying to rescue the people down on the planet,
which are all found dead, one of the crewmen gets
infected with a strange virus that starts affecting
everyone on the ship!!
This has the longest rendition of "I'll Take You Home
Again Kathleen" that I've ever heard!!! LOL!! And not
only that, but the most fun Sulu moment in the history
of Star Trek!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Mr. Spock,
Captain Kirk, Lt. Scott, Dr. McCoy, Nurse Christine Chapel,
Lt. Uhura, Lt. Sulu & Yeoman Rand!!(This is the first
episode with all eight main characters in season 1)! A
EPISODE 5: THE ENEMY WITHIN(Oct. 6, 1966):
A landing party including Sulu is stranded on an Alpha 77 after
a transporter malfunctions that beams up not one, but
two Captains!! Wouldn't be so bad, as you could be in
two places at once and get a lot done! BUT, one captain
is all good, the other all bad!!! Plus, the planet's temperature
is dropping to -120 degrees!!!
The first "He's dead Jim" occurs here!!! LOL!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Lt. Sulu, Captain
Kirk, Lt. Scott, Yeoman Rand, Dr. McCoy & Mr. Spock!! An
interesting side note, while Uhura is heard twice in this
she's never actually seen!! A
EPISODE 6: MUDD'S WOMEN(Oct. 13, 1966):
The first of two episodes featuring Harry Mudd(Roger C.
Carmel)!! Both of them are a lot of fun, but this one might
be just a little bit better!! The gist here is that Harry is transporting
three women to a mining planet for companionship for the men
working there, but there seems to be a little more to the
whole thing!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Lt. Sulu, Mr. Spock, Lt. Scott, Lt. Uhura, & Dr. McCoy!! A
EPISODE 7: WHAT ARE LITTLE GIRLS MADE OF(Oct. 20, 1966):
The fiance of Nurse Chapel is discovered on a desolate
planet where all the natural inhabitants have died off,
leaving only one android left to take care of the mechanical
devices that were created by them!! Dr. Korby has befriended
him and taken over the research on the planet, which has led
to some pretty bizarre experiments!! The second time(of three)
where there's two Kirks!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Nurse Chapel, Lt. Uhura, & Mr. Spock!!
Guest starring here are Ted Cassidy(The Addams Family[TV]),
in his first of three appearances on Star Trek(The other
two are The Corbomite Maneuver[voice only] & Arena) &
Sherry Jackson(Make Room For Daddy[playing the oldest
daughter of Danny Thomas], several of the Ma Pa Kettle
movies)!! A
EPISODE 8: MIRI(Oct. 27, 1966):
While on an Earth-like planet, the crew of the Enterprise
encounter a civilization where only children have survived
a deadly plague, brought on by scientists trying to prolong
life!! This is one of the best of the series!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Mr. Spock,
Captain Kirk, Yeoman Rand & Dr. McCoy!!
Guest starring in this are Kim Darby(True Grit, many guest
starring roles on various TV shows) & Michael J. Pollard
(Dick Tracy, Tango & Cash, Bonnie & Clyde)!! A+
EPISODE 9: DAGGER OF THE MIND(Nov. 3, 1966):
While dropping off supplies to the Tantalus Penal Colony,
which is known for the humane treatment that they have
developed for the mentally ill, the Enterprise gets a strange
visitor who claims to be as sane as anyone else!!!
The first mind-meld is done here!!
Starring, in order of appearance, Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock,
Lr. Uhura & Dr. McCoy!! A
EPISODE 10: THE CORBOMITE MANEUVER(Nov. 10, 1966):
While doing routine star mapping the Enterprise meets
up with another vessel many times the size of it!! The
occupant warns the crew to go away or suffer the
consequences!! Of course, Captain Kirk ignores the
threat, and trouble ensues!!
The first McCoyism: What am I, a doctor or a moon
shuttle conductor??!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Mr. Spock,
Lt. Sulu, Lt. Uhura, Captain Kirk, Dr. McCoy, Lt.
Scott & Yeoman Rand!!
Guest starring Ted Cassidy(voice only) & Clint Howard
(all three Austin Powers movies, The Andy Griffith Show,
Star Trek: ENT[episode "Acquisition"], Star Trek: DS9
[episode "Past Tense Pt. 2][making him one of only a
few actors/actresses to be in at least three different
incarnations of Star Trek!!], Gentle Ben)!! A
EPISODE 11: THE MENAGERIE, PT. 1(Nov. 17, 1966):
This double episode incorporates the original pilot, "The
Cage", into an episode of the final ensemble of cast members!
The gist here is that Spock has decided to take matters into
his own hands to help out his first captain, Captain Pike, in
his darkest hour!! He had suffered a terrible accident which
left him mute and in a wheel chair for the rest of his life, not
much more than a vegetable! Spock has risked his career
on this move, as he is brought up on conspiracy charges!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, Lt. Uhura, Lt. Scott & No. 1(played
by Majel Barret, who later was known as Nurse Christine
Chapel)!!
Guest starring here is Jeffrey Hunter(from the pilot
"The Cage")(Temple Houston, The Searchers)! Sadly,
he had decided not to continue as the captain of the
Enterprise, and only a couple of years later died of
a stroke!! Also here is Susan Oliver(Peyton Place), Malachi
Throne(It Takes A Thief[TV], Star Trek: TNV[episode
"In Harms Way"], Babylon 5[episode "The Coming
of Shadows"], Star Trek: TNG[episode "Unification"
Pt. 1 & 2]) & Felix Silla(Buck Rogers, Star Wars: Episode
VI: Return Of The Jedi, The Addams Family[TV], Battlestar
Galactica[1978])!!! A+
EPISODE 12: THE MENAGERIE, PT. 2(Nov. 24, 1966):
Continuing on from the previous episode with the same
plot, regulars and guest stars!! A+
EPISODE 13: THE CONSCIENCE OF THE KING(Dec. 8, 1966):
The Enterprise gets an urgent call for help from a planet
which turns out to be false!! The real reason is because
a scientist there thinks that he has recognized a mass
killer in the form of an actor!! The murderer was a governor
on a planet running out of food supplies, and he made a
decision to kill off half the population so that the rest of
them could live! Turns out, if he had just waited a couple
of days more, supply ships showed up earlier than expected!!
There were only a handful of witnesses still alive, including
the scientist, Captain Kirk, and an Ensign on board the
Enterprise!!!
Another song by Uhura!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk, Mr.
Spock, Lt. Uhura, Yeoman Rand(seen only, no dialogue!) &
Dr. McCoy!! A
EPISODE 14: BALANCE OF TERROR(Dec. 15, 1966):
After attacks on outposts near the Romulan neutral zone,
the Enterprise has to make a hard decision on whether to
retaliate or not!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Lt. Scott, Captain
Kirk, Dr. McCoy, Yeoman Rand, Mr. Spock, Lt. Sulu, & Lt. Uhura!!
Guest starring here, in the first of several guest starring roles
in not only Star Trek: TOS, but Star Trek: TNG and the Star
Trek movies is Mark Leonard(here playing a Romulan!!)!! A+
EPISODE 15: SHORE LEAVE(Dec. 29, 1966):
The crew is in need of a rest, and the Enterprise encounters
a planet that looks just right for shore leave!! BUT, as the landing
party is researching the planet to make sure that it's suitable,
they start encountering very strange things!! This is a lot of fun!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Mr. Spock, Lt. Uhura, Lt. Sulu & Dr. McCoy!! A+
EPISODE 16: THE GALILEO SEVEN(Jan. 5, 1967):
While on a routine mission to drop off some drugs to a planet
along with a commissioner who's on board the Enterprise,
the crew encounter an anomaly which they take time to
investigate, sending out the shuttlecraft Galileo, which
gets into trouble because of the anomaly and crash lands
on a nearby planet!! This strands the seven on board, which
Spock is in charge of, with no hope of getting back to the
Enterprise!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Lt. Uhura, Mr. Spock, Lt Scott, Dr. McCoy & Lt. Sulu!! A
EPISODE 17: THE SQUIRE OF GOTHOS(Jan. 12, 1967):
While running supplies to another planet, the Enterprise
and crew run into a runaway planet!! Kirk, Sulu, Scotty &
McCoy get pulled down to the planet by an incredibly
powerful being, for purposes unknown!! This is, in my
opinion, the for runner of the character Q from Next
Gen!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Mr. Spock, Lt. Uhura, Dr. McCoy, Lt. Sulu & Lt. Scott!! A
EPISODE 18: ARENA(Jan. 19, 1967):
Part of the crew from the Enterprise beams down to a planet
to pay a visit to some old friends of the Captain's, only to find
the outpost there has been destroyed!! They come under attack
until they use a powerful weapon to retaliate, whereupon the
attackers beam back to their own ship and take off! The away
team promptly beam back to the Enterprise to give chase, only
to have their chase cut short by beings even more powerful
than the attackers!! The reason: they don't want a battle in their
section of the galaxy and decide that the way to stop it is to
send the captains of each ship to a nearby planet to fight it
out between themselves! The winner gets to go on their way!
The loser, not so much!!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Dr. McCoy, Mr. Spock, Yeoman Rand, Lt. Sulu, & Lt. Uhura!! A+
EPISODE 19: TOMORROW IS YESTERDAY(Jan. 26, 1967):
Under the pull of a black star, the Enterprise, while trying
to pull free, gets slingshot in to the past!! There, they encounter
the inhabitants of the 20th century and all Hell breaks loose!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Mr. Spock, Lt. Uhura, Lt. Sulu, Lt. Scott & Dr. McCoy!! A
EPISODE 20: COURT MARTIAL(Feb. 2, 1967):
During an emergency Captain Kirk is forced to jettison a pod
with a crewman aboard!! Turns out that it appears that
the captain acted too quickly, and the death of the crewman
is now on his head, and a court martial convenes to find out
if he's guilty of not only killing the man, but of falsifying official
records!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk, Lt.
Uhura, Mr. Spock, Lt. Scott & Dr. McCoy!
Guest stars include Elisha Cook Jr.(Magnum P.I., The Maltese
Falcon, The Big Sleep) & Percy Rodrigues(Peyton Place[TV], many
guest starring roles on TV)!! A+
EPISODE 21: THE RETURN OF THE ARCHONS(Feb. 9, 1967):
While searching for a lost ship, "The Archon", two crew members
beam down to a planet and are attacked by it's inhabitants!!
This turns them into zombie like people who seem to all worship
someone name "Landru"!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Lt. Sulu,
Captain Kirk, Lt. Scott, Dr. McCoy, Mr. Spock & Lt. Uhura!! A
EPISODE 22: SPACE SEED(Feb. 16, 1967):
This stars one of the greatest guest stars in all of Star Trek
lore, the great Ricardo Montalban!!! He plays a prisoner who's
been banished onto a penal ship along with his followers,
and the Enterprise and crew happen upon them!! They
make the fatal mistake of reviving most of the pods(as
some have malfunctioned), and Ricardo's character,
Khan, is determined to take over the Enterprise and
crew!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Mr. Spock, Lt. Uhura, Dr. McCoy, Lt. Scott!! A+
EPISODE 23: A TASTE OF ARMAGEDDON(Feb. 23, 1967):
While negotiating with another planet about joining the
Federation, the Enterprise and her crew are caught in the
middle of a war between them and a neighboring planet!!
While there are no bombs, no missiles, yea, no bloodshed
at all, the stakes are non-the-less life threatening!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Lt. Uhura, Mr. Spock, Lt. Scott!! A
EPISODE 24: THIS SIDE OF PARADISE(Mar. 2, 1967):
While on a routine check of a colony that's been on a planet
for over a year, the crew runs into some really strange data:
there are no animals on the planet, the people don't have any
signs of disease, and there's a strange plant that emits spores
that make people docile!! This even affects Spock to the point
where he falls in love!!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk, Lt.
Uhura, Mr. Spock, Lt. Sulu, Dr. McCoy, Lt. Scott!
Guest stars include Jill Ireland(In several movies with Charles
Bronson, including Death Wish 2)!! A
EPISODE 25: THE DEVIL IN THE DARK(Mar. 9, 1967):
At a mining colony, something is killing the workers there!!
They've called on the Enterprise to come and help find the
reason and help them get back to production!!
Another McCoyism: I'm a doctor, not a brick layer!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk, Mr.
Spock, Dr. McCoy & Lt. Scott!! A
EPISODE 26: ERRAND OF MERCY(Mar. 23, 1967):
While headed to Organia to try to pen a peace treaty
with them, the Enterprise is attacked, the assumption
is that it's the Klingons!! Just afterwards, they get a message
from Starfleet Command saying that war has broken out!!
The Enterprise continues on to Organia, more determined
than ever to get a treaty, when they are surprised that
there are already Klingons there!! Try as Captain Kirk and
Spock may, they can't convince the Organians that they
are in danger!!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Lt. Sulu,
Mr. Spock, Lt. Uhura, Captain Kirk!!
Guest starring John Colicos(Battlestar Galactica)! A
EPISODE 27: THE ALTERNATIVE FACTOR(Mas. 30, 1967):
While scanning a dead planet, suddenly there's a strange
effect on the whole universe, and Kirk and Spock beam
down to the planet to see who a new being is that has
suddenly appeared there!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Lt. Uhura, Mr. Spock & Dr. McCoy!! A
EPISODE 28: THE CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER(Apr. 6, 1967):
Far and away the best, of the first season, and perhaps the
whole series!! Written by the great science fiction writer,
Harlan Ellison, and guest starring Joan Collins(Dynasty, many
guest starring roles on tv), this is about Dr. McCoy accidentally
giving himself a shot of "cordrazine" and going berserk, winding
up on a planet that has a "time machine" that sends him back
to old Earth(circa 1930) and somehow changing time!! This forces
Kirk and Spock to follow him to try to straighten things out!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk, Lt.
Sulu, Lt. Scott, Mr. Spock, Lt. Uhura, & Dr. McCoy! A+
EPISODE 29: OPERATION - ANNIHILATE!(Apr. 13, 1967):

the Enterprise crew watch as a ship from that planet head toward
the sun and burn up!! Kirk and crew then head to the planet to
find out what's going on!!
This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk, Lt.
Uhura, Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, Lt. Sulu, Lt. Scott & Nurse Chappel. A

PHOTO LOG:
Several shots from the show!!
From an IMDb.com customer:
Due to my age, I didn't begin watching "Star Trek TOS"
until the mid 1970s, and, they were re-runs, of course.
I have to say, I love this classic as much, maybe even
more, than I loved it then.
This show has everything - great characters who interact
well with one another; great villains; great costumes; great
settings; great and colorful skies, backgrounds, and, props;
great sound-effects; great music, much of which is very
pleasant and soothing; great, well-written stories that
are parallel to the true-life events, even controversial
events, of the late 1960s, and, they are well-acted;
great action scenes; great suspense; great horror
and terror; great, great, great everything...except
for the studio clowns who forced this 'great' show
off the air after only three seasons, and, later lived
to regret it.
This show also has beautiful women who wear sexy
mini-skirt uniforms; beautiful alien women in sexy outfits
of all sorts...even the green chick is attractive. I, personally,
love the clothing that women in the 1960s wore, especially
the way the clothing accentuated their figures, and, USS
Enterprise uniforms do exactly that. I also loved their
hair styles, make-up, etc. If you like all of this, watch "Mad
Men." It, too, has sexy sixties women in sexy, sexy outfits.
This is just a fabulous television series that died-out
much too soon; but, was so 'great,' that it spawned a
series of movies and other television series based upon it.
To me, "Star Trek TOS" is the Grandfather, the Master,
of grandiose Sci-Fi as it shows how people in real life
(usually politicians or governments), mimicked by certain
characters in the show, aren't as great as they feel
themselves to be; and, like those people in real life,
are eventually toppled.
I became so tired of waiting for this to be shown again
on TV that I went out and bought the entire DVD series.
It comes with all kinds of extras, interviews, and,
behind-the-scenes films; as well as personal films shot
by actors.
Anyone who's a Sci-Fi fan and hasn't seen this classic
show; or, doesn't own the DVD set...your Sci-Fi indulgence
isn't complete! You gotta see this! :)
