STAR TREK - THE ORIGINAL SERIES SEASON 2(1967)

SPACE, THE FINAL FRONTIER! THESE ARE THE VOYAGES
OF THE STARSHIP: ENTERPRISE! IT'S FIVE YEAR MISSION:
TO EXPLORE STRANGE NEW WORLDS, TO SEEK OUT NEW
LIFE AND NEW CIVILIZATIONS, TO BOLDLY GO WHERE NO
MAN HAS GONE BEFORE!!

With that starts the one that started it all!! This second season
has most of the familiar crew members in it, including the
first appearance of Ensign Chekov, though Yeoman Rand
is nowhere to be seen!!

An aside here, they changed the theme song to where there
is a VERY irritating woman singing in a VERY shrill voice!!!
Not sure who's bright idea that was!!!

EPISODE 1: AMOK TIME(Sept. 15, 1967):

Mr. Spock just isn't himself lately, and he demands to be
taken to his home planet of Vulcan! Very perplexing indeed!!

here: "Live Long, and Prosper"!!!!

true!!" - Mr. Spock & "In a pig's eye" - Dr. McCoy!!!!

Lt. Sulu & Mr. Spock!! A

EPISODE 3: THE CHANGELING(Sept. 29, 1967):

singing!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Lt. Urura, Mr. Spock, Lt. Sulu, Lt. Scott, Dr. McCoy & Nurse

While beaming up after doing some negotiations with
an important planet for the Federation, the team is
affected by a space anomaly and gets whisked away to
an alternate reality where the Federation is a Klingonish
type dictatorship!! This puts both the away team(Kirk,
McCoy, Uhura & Sulu) in a very precarious position,
as well as the crew on the original ship!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Lt. Scott, Dr. McCoy, Lt. Uhura, Mr. Spock, Lt. Sulu &
Ensign Chekov!! A

EPISODE 5: THE APPLE(Oct. 13, 1967):

The Enterprise is called upon to research a planet, and soon
finds that the people there are controlled by an entity called
Vol!! Not only does Vol control the people there, but it has
taken control of the Enterprise and is trying to pull it down
out of orbit!! A dilemma soon takes hold of the landing party
as they must decide whether or not to interfere with the
normal evolution of the planet, or to let the 400+ people
on the Enterprise die!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk, Mr.
Spock, Ensign Checkov, Dr. McCoy & Lt. Scott!! A-

EPISODE 6: THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE(Oct. 20, 1967):

The Enterprise comes upon the USS Constellation which
has been decimated and left hanging in space!! They discover
that Commodore Decker is still on board, but no one else!
Upon talking with Decker, they discover that the rest of the
crew were beamed down to one of the planets in the
solar system, which was then destroyed by a very powerful
"doomsday machine"!!

Dr. McCoyism: "I'm a doctor, not a mechanic"!!

Another famous line here: "Vulcan's never bluff"!!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Lt. Sulu, Mr. Spock, Lt. Scott & Dr. McCoy!!

This guest stars the great William Windom(Murder She
Wrote)!!!! A+

EPISODE 7: CATSPAW(Oct. 27, 1967):

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Lt. Uhura, Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, Ensign Chekov, Lt. Scott
& Lt. Sulu!! A

EPISODE 8: I, MUDD(Nov. 3, 1967):

The second episode with Fenton Harcourt Mudd(Roger
C. Carmel), this one is about him ruling over a planet
with a bunch of androids as his subjects!! And he's decided
he wants the crew of the Enterprise to come to him so he
can have their ship!!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Mr. Spock,
Dr. McCoy, Captain Kirk, Lt. Sulu, Lt. Uhura & Lt. Scott !!

Guest starring in this is Roger C. Carmel(The Mothers-In
Law)!! A-

EPISODE 9: METAMORPHOSIS(Nov. 10, 1967):

While taking an embassador to the Enterprise for treatment
for a very rare disease the Galileo is overtaken by an unknown
electrical entity who drags them to a planetoid for reasons unknown!!

This has the first appearance of Zeffran Cocharan(played by
Glen Corbet[Route 66, Dallas]) which the TNG movie First Contact
was based on!

Starring, in order of appearance, Dr. McCoy, Captain Kirk,
Mr. Spock, Lt. Scott, Lt. Sulu & Lt. Uhura!! A

Guest starring here is Elenor Donahue(Father Knows Best)!

EPISODE 10: JOURNEY TO BABEL(Nov. 17, 1967):

While transporting a group of delegates to Babel for a
conference to admit the Coridan planets to the Federation,
one of the delegates is killed and Spock's father, Sarak(played
by Mark Lenard) is seriously injured!!

Famous lines: Spock: "Why did you marry her?" Sarak: "It seemed
the logical thing to do at the time!!";
McCoy: "Well, what do you know? I finally got the last word!!!"

This episode has, in order of appearance: Dr. McCoy,
Captain Kirk, Dr. McCoy, Ensign Chekov, Mr. Spock, Lt.
Uhura & Nurse Chapel!!

Guest starring the aforementioned Mark Lenard(Star

The Voyage Home,, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country,
Star Trek: TNG[episodes "Sarek" & "Unification Pt. 1"] &
Jane Wyatt(Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Father Knows
Best) as Spock's mother)!!

An interesting side note here, With Jane Wyatt in this
episode, and Elanor Donahue in the previous episode,
this has two alumni from Father Knows Best back to back
guest starring in Star Trek!! And both have done an excellent
job in each episode!! A++

EPISODE 11: FRIDAY'S CHILD(Dec. 1, 1967):

The Enterprise is on it's way to a planet that Dr. McCoy
has had the pleasure to have visited!! The purpose, to
negotiate with the people there to secure mining rights
on the planet for the UFP!! Problems arise when the Klingons
show up and throw a fly in the ointment!!

McCoyism: "I'm a doctor, not an escalator!!"

& Lt. Sulu!!

doctor"!!

Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, Lt. Scott, Ensign Chekov, Nurse
Chapel, Lt. Sulu & Lt. Uhura! (A note here, this is the first
episode with all eight of the "regulars" from season

EPISODE 13: OBSESSION(Dec. 15 1967):

While on a routine mining research mission, Captain Kirk
and company run into an old familiar entity that he had
encountered 11 years earlier and it killed many of the crew
of the Farragut, the ship he was on at that time!! Because of
his previous encounter, he is obsessed with killing it, as he
blames himself for the fact that it got away then!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk, Mr.
Spock, Lt. Scott, Nurse Chapel, Dr. McCoy, Lt. Uhura & Ensign
Chekov!! A

EPISODE 14: WOLF IN THE FOLD(Dec. 22, 1967):

One of the greats of the original series, this is about Scotty
being in the wrong place at the wrong time and being accused
of murder!!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Lt. Scott, Captain Kirk,
Dr. McCoy, Mr. Spock & Lt. Sulu!!

Guest starring here, a man who is instantly recognized, with a
voice that's also instantly recognizable, but a name nobody knows!
John Fiedler(Hengist) has been on many TV shows as a guest star,
but he is mostly known as the voice of Piglet on all of the Winnie
The Pooh cartoons!!! A+

EPISODE 15: THE TROUBLE WITH TRIBBLES(Dec. 29, 1967):

The Enterprise has received a code 1 distress signal from
deep space station K-7, which means total disaster!!
When they get there, there's no sign of an emergency, and
when asked what is going on there, the explanation is that
there's incredibly valuable product in their storage bins,
quadrotriticale, and the manager of the station wants Kirk
to have "as many security men as he can" beam over and guard
it!! Shortly after the Enterprise arrives at the station, so do the
Klingons, demanding that they be given "shore leave" as is
allowed by the station's regulations!! Adding to all this
is the fact that Cyrano Jones is on the space station, and
he's brought several little furry friends with him, Tribbles,
and Captain Kirk certainly has his hands full!!! This is one
of the best of the best episodes!!

Famous lines: Scotty: "I gave them to the Klingons where they'll
be no Tribble at all"!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Mr. Spock, Ensign Chekov, Lt. Uhura, Lt. Scott & Dr.
McCoy!!

Guest starring in this is William Schallert(The Patty Duke
Show, The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries[in the
Nancy Drew shows as Nancy's father!!]), Whit Bissle(The
Time Machine, The Magnificent Seven) & William Campbell
(also in the Star Trek episode "The Squire Of Gothos")!! A+

EPISODE 16: THE GAMESTERS OF TRISKELION(Jan. 5, 1968):

While beaming down to a planet on a routine survey
mission, Kirk, Uhura and Chekov get whisked away to
a different planet inhabited by beings that are so bored
with their lives that they gamble on anything and everything!!

One of the weakest of all the Star Trek episodes!!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Lt. Uhura, Mr. Spock, Ensign Chekov, Lt. Scott & Dr.
McCoy!! B

EPISODE 17: A PIECE OF THE ACTION(Jan. 12, 1968):

Another really fun episode! This one sees the Enterprise
going to a planet to make "follow up contact", only to find that
this place is based off of old Chicago due to a book that had
been left behind on the planet during the first contact!!!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk, Ensign
Chekov, Lt. Uhura, Lt. Scott, Mr. Spock & Dr. McCoy!! A

Guest starring in this: Vic Tayback(Alice)!

EPISODE 18: THE IMMUNITY SYNDROME(Jan. 19, 1968):

A Vulcan ship "dies" with all hands aboard dying also!! The
Enterprise and crew are sent to investigate, and get caught
up in a negative force that seems to drain the life force out
of ship and crew!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk, Dr.
McCoy, Mr. Spock, Lt. Uhura, Ensign Chekov, Lt. Scott &
Nurse Chapel!! A

EPISODE 19: A PRIVATE LITTLE WAR(Feb. 2, 1968):

The Enterprise and crew go to a planet that Kirk had been on
before, a quiet, peaceful sanguine planet, living a life in paradise
with weapons consisting of bows and arrows!! As soon as they get
there, Mr. Spock is promptly shot with a flintlock and Kirk, Spock
& McCoy go back to the ship to re-group!! So much for the quiet
little planet!! Turns out there are Klingons in the same area, and
they have decided to speed up the evolution of the planet!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Dr. McCoy, Captain
Kirk, Mr. Spock, Lt. Scott, Nurse Chapel, Lt. Uhura & Ensign
Chekov!! A

EPISODE 20: RETURN TO TOMORROW(Feb. 9, 1968):

The Enterprise and her crew are brought to a planet that
once was like Earth, but now is barren, except for the essence
of three surviving people who have stored their essence in
containers, waiting for someone to come by to help them
make androids to put their essence in for the rest of time!!!

Another of the weaker episodes:-)

This episode has, in order of appearance: Lt. Sulu, Captain
Kirk, Lt. Uhura, Mr. Spock, Lt Scott, Dr. McCoy & Nurse Chapel!

Guest stars include Diana Muldaur(who later became a semi-
regular on Star Trek: The Next Generation as Dr Polanski and
also starred in McCloud), in her first of two guest starring roles
on Star Trek(the second was in the episode "Is There In Truth
No Beauty")!! A-

EPISODE 21: PATTERNS OF FORCE(Feb. 16, 1968):

While searching for a lost ship, the Enterprise and crew
come across a planet where they find the lost captain
of the ship!! Seems like the captain decided the only way
to survive on this planet was to focus their attention on
a neighboring planet's people by using past Earth history
as an example!! Now the ruling party is the spitting image
of the Nazis of Earth!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Mr. Spock,
Captain Kirk, Ensign Checkov, Dr. McCoy, Lt. Uhura & Lt.
Scott!! A

EPISODE 22: BY ANY OTHER NAME(Feb. 23, 1968):

The Enterprise and crew are answering a distress call, but
it turns out to be a false alarm, just to get them there so
the people who sent it could take over the ship to go back
to their home planet, in another galaxy!!!!!

Another weak entry, IMHO!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, Ensign Chekov, Lt. Uhura. Lt. Scott
& Nurse Chapel!!

Guest starring Barbara Bouchet(Casino Royale[1968])! A-

EPISODE 23: THE OMEGA GLORY(Mar. 1, 1968):

The Enterprise and crew come upon the Exeter which has
been missing for 6 months!! They beam over to the ship
to find that no one is alive there, and all that's left of them
is a pile of crystals!! The captain however is down on the
planet and in the middle of a war between some Asian
appearing people and some white people!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Lt. Sulu, Captain
Kirk, Lt. Uhura, Mr. Spock & Dr. McCoy!! A-

EPISODE 24: THE ULTIMATE COMPUTER(Mar. 8, 1968):

The Enterprise is chosen for an experiment!! It is to have all
hands leave the ship and be run by a computer only!! This
leaves only Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the inventor of the
computer on board, which leads to disaster!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk, Lt.
Sulu, Lt. Uhura, Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, Lt. Scott & Ensign
Chekov! A-

EPISODE 25: BREAD AND CIRCUSES(Mar. 15, 1968):

The Enterprise comes upon the remains of a freighter and
they follow the trail of the remains back to an M like planet!
Kirk, Spock & McCoy beam down to find out what's going on,
only to discover a civilization based on ancient Rome ideals!!

Another of the weak offings, but certainly not the weakest!

Another, maybe not famous, but great line:
Septimus: "You may not understand, because you're centuries
beyond anything as crude as television"!
Kirk: "I've heard it was similar"!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Ensign Chekov,
Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, Lt. Uhura, Dr. McCoy & Lt. Scott!! A-

EPISODE 26: ASSIGNMENT: EARTH(Mar. 29, 1968):

While doing research in Earth's past(1968) the Enterprise
intercepts a being from another world while he's beaming
to Earth from a very long ways out!!

This was a great way to end the season, especially after the
last few episodes which weren't quite up to par!! A lot of fun,
with much humor and still having drama involved!

Robert Lansing and Terri Garr are absolutely great here!!
It is unfortunate that Majel Barrett(Nurse Chapel) isn't in this,
as it would have had the entire second season crew in the
season finale!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Lt. Sulu, Lt Uhura, Mr. Spock, Lt. Scott, Dr. McCoy, Ensign
Chekov !!

Guest starring Robert Lansing(The Equalizer, 12 O'Clock High) &
Teri Garr(Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, Young Frankenstein,
Batman Beyond, Tootsie, Fun In Acapulco, Kissin' Cousins, Viva
Las Vegas, Roustabout, Clambake[This is an incredible 5 Elvis
Presley movies!! Only Elvis himself and the Jordanaires were in
more of his movies!!])! A

PREVIEW TRAILERS:

From an IMDb.com customer:

Due to my age, I didn't begin watching "Star Trek TOS"
until the mid 1970s, and, they were re-runs, of course.
I have to say, I love this classic as much, maybe even
more, than I loved it then.

This show has everything - great characters who interact
well with one another; great villains; great costumes; great
settings; great and colorful skies, backgrounds, and, props;
great sound-effects; great music, much of which is very
pleasant and soothing; great, well-written stories that
are parallel to the true-life events, even controversial
events, of the late 1960s, and, they are well-acted;
great action scenes; great suspense; great horror
and terror; great, great, great everything...except
for the studio clowns who forced this 'great' show
off the air after only three seasons, and, later lived
to regret it.

This show also has beautiful women who wear sexy
mini-skirt uniforms; beautiful alien women in sexy outfits
of all sorts...even the green chick is attractive. I, personally,
love the clothing that women in the 1960s wore, especially
the way the clothing accentuated their figures, and, USS
Enterprise uniforms do exactly that. I also loved their
hair styles, make-up, etc. If you like all of this, watch "Mad
Men." It, too, has sexy sixties women in sexy, sexy outfits.

This is just a fabulous television series that died-out
much too soon; but, was so 'great,' that it spawned a
series of movies and other television series based upon it.

To me, "Star Trek TOS" is the Grandfather, the Master,
of grandiose Sci-Fi as it shows how people in real life
(usually politicians or governments), mimicked by certain
characters in the show, aren't as great as they feel
themselves to be; and, like those people in real life,
are eventually toppled.

I became so tired of waiting for this to be shown again
on TV that I went out and bought the entire DVD series.
It comes with all kinds of extras, interviews, and,
behind-the-scenes films; as well as personal films shot
by actors.

Anyone who's a Sci-Fi fan and hasn't seen this classic
show; or, doesn't own the DVD set...your Sci-Fi indulgence
isn't complete! You gotta see this! :)

RIP Leonard Nimoy; DeForest Kelley; James Doohan; and,
Gene Roddenberry. - Johan-smedjebacka
