STAR TREK - THE ORIGINAL SERIES SEASON 3 PAGE

STAR TREK - THE ORIGINAL SERIES SEASON 3(1968)

SPACE, THE FINAL FRONTIER! THESE ARE THE VOYAGES
OF THE STARSHIP: ENTERPRISE! IT'S FIVE YEAR MISSION:
TO EXPLORE STRANGE NEW WORLDS, TO SEEK OUT NEW
LIFE AND NEW CIVILIZATIONS, TO BOLDLY GO WHERE NO
MAN HAS GONE BEFORE!!

With that starts the end of a great series that spawned
five more TV series' as well as 13 movies!!! This third season
has all the familiar crew members in it, still missing Grace
Lee Whitney as Yeoman Rand(she was only in the first
season)!!

It is interesting to note that all of the regulars in this, the
final season, show up in the same episode together several times,
unlike the first two seasons!! In those first two, the full cast
only show up together once per season.

EPISODE 1: SPOCK'S BRAIN(Sept. 20, 1968):

Probably the weakest of all the episodes of Star Trek, this
tells the tale of how a race of beings desperate to keep their
"planet" alive, steal Spock's brain!! Yep, pretty dumb!! This may
very well be the nail in the coffin!!

This first aired episode has, in order of appearance: Mr. Spock,
Lt. Uhura, Captain James T. Kirk, Lt. Hikaru Sulu, Ensign Pavel
Chekov. Dr. Leonard McCoy & Nurse Christine Chapel!! B-

EPISODE 2: THE ENTERPRISE INCIDENT(Sept. 27, 1968):

Captain Kirk has apparently gone off the deep end!! He's
ordered the Enterprise into the Romulan neutral zone
and they are promptly surrounded by Romulans, who have
started using Kilingon technology for their ships!! Hmmmm!!!

The main guest star in this, Joanne Linville, does remarkably
well in this!! Probably one of the best guest stars of season
three!!

This is one of the best, if not THE best, episode of season
three!! Very entertaining!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Dr. McCoy, Lt. Uhura, Mr. Spock, Lt. Sulu, Ensign Chekov,
Lt, Montgomery Scott & Nurse Chapel!! (This is the first
episode in season 3 with all eight of the main crew
members!)! A

EPISODE 3: THE PARADISE SYNDROME(Oct. 4, 1968):

A landing party of Kirk, Spock and McCoy beam down to
what looks like a paradise planet!! They are there on a
mercy mission to warn them of an asteroid that's headed
straight for their planet!! While researching a pyramid like
structure, Kirk gets zapped, and the rest can't locate him!
The Enterprise is forced out of orbit to try to deflect the
asteroid, thereby saving said planet, leaving Kirk there, where
he falls in love with a local, Indian looking lady, and a lot
more happens!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, Lt. Scott, Lt. Sulu & Nurse Chapel!! A-

EPISODE 4: AND THE CHILDREN SHALL LEAD(Oct. 11, 1968):

The triad beams down to a planet when they get a distress
signal from a colony!! They get there and discover everyone
dead, having killed themselves!! All except the children, who
seem oblivious to all that's happening!!

Another weak entry into the lore, this one is just boring!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Spock,
Captain Kirk, Dr. McCoy, Nurse Chapel, Lt. Sulu, Ensign
Chekov, Lt. Uhura & Lt. Scott!!(Marking the first time
in the three seasons that all the main cast is in an
episode together two times during the season!!)

Guest starring here is Melvin Belli(famous attorney
[he defended Jack Ruby, as well as many famous actors
politicians, ect.])! B

EPISODE 5: IS THERE IN TRUTH NO BEAUTY?(Oct. 18, 1968):

An ambassador from a race of beings so ugly that it drives men
mad is beamed aboard along with a companion who seems to be
immune to the Medusan!! Along with the two is an assistant
to the woman who seems to be quite smitten with her and quite
jealous of the Medusan!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk, Lt. Scott,
Mr. Spock, Lt. Uhura, Lt. Sulu, Ensign Chekov & Dr. McCoy!!

Guest starring in this, for her second time, is Diana Muldaur
(Star Trek: TNG as Dr. Kate Polanski, Quincy, McCloud)! A-

EPISODE 6: SPECTRE OF THE GUN(Oct. 25, 1968):

The Enterprise encounters a space bouy which warns them
not to continue on to Melkot, a planet not far away!! Kirk and
crew ignore the warning and head on, and get themselves into
the Gunfight At The OK Coral!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Mr. Spock, Captain
Kirk, Ensign Chekov, Lt. Uhura, Lt. Scott & Dr. McCoy!! A-

EPISODE 7: DAY OF THE DOVE(Nov. 1, 1968):

The Enterprise brings on board an alien entity after beaming
down to a planet to investigate a distress call!! This entity also
affects a Klingon crew that ends up on board the Enterprise,
and eventually a battle between the two factions ensues!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Dr. McCoy, Ensign Chekov, Mr. Spock, Lt. Sulu, Lt Scott &
Lt. Uhura!!

Guest starring here are Michael Ansara(Playing Kang, also
in Star Trek: DS9 & Voyager, Broken Arrow)!! A

EPISODE 8: FOR THE WORLD IS HOLLOW AND I HAVE TOUCHED THE SKY(Nov. 8, 1968):

After being attacked, the Enterprise and crew head to where
the missiles came from!! They discover a ship in the form of
an asteroid that appears to be headed to destruction unless
they interfere!! As a side story, Dr. McCoy has discovered
that he has an incurable disease!!

This is another great episode!! Really worth a watch! It's too
bad that they never followed up on this one!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Mr. Spock,
Lt. Sulu, Captain Kirk, Lt. Scott, Lt. Uhura, Ensign Chekov,
Nurse Chapel & Dr McCoy!!(And for the third time this
season, all the regulars show up!!) A+

EPISODE 9: THE THOLIAN WEB(Nov. 15, 1968):

After encroaching on another species' territory to try to rescue
the distressed Starship Defiant, the Enterprise gets ensnared by
a web that will eventually make it impossible for it to move!!!

Starring, in order of appearance, Lt. Sulu, Ensign Chekov,
Lt. Uhura, Mr. Spock, Captain Kirk, Lt. Scott, Dr. McCoy &
Nurse Chapel!!(And agian, everybody's here!) A

EPISODE 10: PLATO'S STEPCHILDREN(Nov. 22, 1968):

The enterprise is dragged to a planet who's inhabitants all have
God-like powers!! They've called upon the good Dr. McCoy to help
out when their leader has a bad physical issue!! After taking care
of the issue, the group decides that the doctor is too valuable to
them to let him leave, and a clash of wills ensues!!

The first ever inter-racial kiss on film is in this, between
Captain Kirk and Lt. Uhura!!(Although there is debate whether
their lips actually ever touched!) Also here is Spock's singing
debut!!

While this is not a great episode over-all, it still is worth a
watch for the kiss and Mr. Dunn!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Mr. Spock,
Captain Kirk, Dr. McCoy, Lt. Scott, Lt. Uhura & Nurse
Chapel!!

Guest starring the little people star Michael Dunn, who's best
known as Dr. Loveless of The Wild Wild West!! A-

EPISODE 11: WINK OF AN EYE(Nov. 29, 1968):

The Enterprise gets a distress signal, and after beaming down
to the planet discover no one there!! Or at least it seems that
way! Turns out that the inhabitants are moving faster than
the human eye can follow, and they beam up with the away
team to take over the Enterprise!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Lt. Scott, Captain
Kirk, Lt. Uhura, Dr. McCoy, Mr. Spock, Lt. Sulu & Nurse Chapel!!
(Again, the whole crew!) A-

EPISODE 12: THE EMPATH(Dec. 6, 1968):

Kirk, Spock and McCoy beam down to a planet who's sun is
on the verge of supernova to rescue the survey team that has
been there recording the sun's progress! What they find is no
party members, and soon they are all whisked away to beneath
the planet where they meet up with a mute empath!! One thing
leads to another and all three of the triad end up in deadly peril!

It's been a while, but we have another McCoyism here:
"I'm a doctor, not a coal miner"!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk, Dr.
McCoy, Mr. Spock, Lt. Scott, Lt. Sulu & Dr. McCoy!! A-

EPISODE 13: ELAAN OF TROYIUS(Dec. 20, 1968):

Another weak entry, this is about The Enterprise being used
to transport an alien female who's betrothed to another
alien on another planet, all in the name of diplomacy!! Trouble
arises when said female is a bitch and has no interest in being
a trophy wife! Plus, as an Elasian, she has the ability to control
any man of whom her tears happen to touch! Also causing issues,
another ship seems to be tailing The Enterprise!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Lt. Sulu,
Lt. Scott, Captain Kirk, Dr. McCoy, Lt. Uhura, Mr. Spock, Ensign
Chekov & Nurse Chapel!!

instead one of the worst of the inmates!!

two beings who are from a planet who've been fighting a war

either race!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Engisn Chekov, Lt. Uhura, Lt. Sulu, Mr. Spock, Lt. Scott,
Dr. McCoy & Nurse Chapel!!

This guest stars Frank Gorshin(while probably best known
as the Riddler on Batman, he's also a well known voice
imitator!!) A-

EPISODE 16: THE MARK OF GIDEON(Jan. 17, 1969):

The Enterprise has been sent to Gideon to negotiate a
treaty to join the Federation!! They have been resistant
to allow anyone to beam down to their planet, but have
agreed to allow one person to beam down, and that will
be Kirk! After beaming down, Kirk discovers that he's
still on the Enterprise and he's the only one on board!!
Hmmmmmm!!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,

An unusual entity invades the Enterprise and takes over the
body of one of its crew of whom Scotty just happens to be
quite smitten with!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Lt. Scott, Captain Kirk,
Lt. Sulu, Ensign Chekov, Lt. Uhura, Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy &
Nurse Chapel!!(This is the last time that all the regulars are
together in an episode!) A

EPISODE 19: REQUIEM FOR METHUSELAH(Feb. 14, 1969):

While down on a planet in search for Ryetalyn which is needed
desperately for an epidemic outbreak on the ship, Kirk, Spock &
McCoy run into a dude that's insisting that this is his planet
and that they have no right to being there, and he seems to
have powers that are far beyond that of a mere mortal!!

Famous lines: "Forget" - Spock!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, & Lt Scott!!

Guest starring James Daly(Medical Center, Planet Of The Apes) A

EPISODE 20: THE WAY TO EDEN(Feb. 21, 1969):

ship and are intercepted by the Enterprise!! Once beamed

to recruit the crew of the Enterprise to join their cause!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk, Mr.
Spock, Lt. Sulu, Ensign Chekov, Lt. Scott, Nurse Chapel &
Dr. McCoy!

Guest staring in this is Charles Napier(Star Trek: DS9 episode
"Little Green Men", Loaded Weapon I) & Percy Rodrigues(Peyton
Place[TV], many guest starring roles on TV)!! B

EPISODE 21: THE CLOUD MINDERS(Feb. 28, 1969):

A planet is in danger of all the plant life being destroyed
so the Enterprise is sent to another planet where the only
remedy for the problem exists!! But getting it is not as easy
as one would think, as the miners on the planet are on strike,
citing horrible working conditions and a separatist government!!

This is a great study in how slavery, no matter how it's disguised,
is disgusting!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Lt. Uhura, Mr. Spock, Lt. Scott, Dr. McCoy & Lt. Sulu!! A

EPISODE 22: THE SAVAGE CURTAIN(Mar. 7, 1969):

While investigating a planet that seems to be entirely made up
of molten lava, the Enterprise and her crew come upon Abraham
Lincoln sitting in a chair - IN SPACE!! Kirk and Spock are then
whisked away to the planet, where they meet up with not only
each one's hero, but also their biggest villain!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,

is gone, except the Librarian, who's job it was was to send
all the people to a different time where they would be safe!
Unfortunately the triad all gets sent to the past of this
planet where they are stuck for all time!! Or are they?

It is too bad that this wasn't the final episode of the series,
as the last one, Turnabout Intruder, was quite under par!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain Kirk,
Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, Lt. Scott!! A

Guest starring here is Mariette Hartley(who was in the
Gene Roddenberry movie Genesis II along with several
alumni of Star Trek, including: Ted Cassidy[who was in

While answering a distress signal, Kirk, Spock and McCoy
run into an old flame of Kirk's, and she's determined to
not only destroy him, but to take over command of the
Enterprise!!

Another weak episode, and too bad that it's the last one
of the series! Also of note, Nichelle Nichols is not in this
final episode, the only main star not here!!

This episode has, in order of appearance: Captain James T.
Kirk, Mr. Spock, Dr. Leonard McCoy, Lt. Montgomery
Scott, Nurse Christine Chapel, Lt. Hikaru Sulu & Ensign Pavel
Chekov! B

From an IMDb.com customer:

Due to my age, I didn't begin watching "Star Trek TOS"
until the mid 1970s, and, they were re-runs, of course.
I have to say, I love this classic as much, maybe even
more, than I loved it then.

This show has everything - great characters who interact
well with one another; great villains; great costumes; great
settings; great and colorful skies, backgrounds, and, props;
great sound-effects; great music, much of which is very
pleasant and soothing; great, well-written stories that
are parallel to the true-life events, even controversial
events, of the late 1960s, and, they are well-acted;
great action scenes; great suspense; great horror
and terror; great, great, great everything...except
for the studio clowns who forced this 'great' show
off the air after only three seasons, and, later lived
to regret it.

This show also has beautiful women who wear sexy
mini-skirt uniforms; beautiful alien women in sexy outfits
of all sorts...even the green chick is attractive. I, personally,
love the clothing that women in the 1960s wore, especially
the way the clothing accentuated their figures, and, USS
Enterprise uniforms do exactly that. I also loved their
hair styles, make-up, etc. If you like all of this, watch "Mad
Men." It, too, has sexy sixties women in sexy, sexy outfits.

This is just a fabulous television series that died-out
much too soon; but, was so 'great,' that it spawned a
series of movies and other television series based upon it.

To me, "Star Trek TOS" is the Grandfather, the Master,
of grandiose Sci-Fi as it shows how people in real life
(usually politicians or governments), mimicked by certain
characters in the show, aren't as great as they feel
themselves to be; and, like those people in real life,
are eventually toppled.

I became so tired of waiting for this to be shown again
on TV that I went out and bought the entire DVD series.
It comes with all kinds of extras, interviews, and,
behind-the-scenes films; as well as personal films shot
by actors.

Anyone who's a Sci-Fi fan and hasn't seen this classic
show; or, doesn't own the DVD set...your Sci-Fi indulgence
isn't complete! You gotta see this! :)

RIP Leonard Nimoy; DeForest Kelley; James Doohan; and,
Gene Roddenberry. - Johan-smedjebacka
