SHIRLEY TEMPLE: LITTLE DARLING COLLECTION
18 movies by Shirely Temple, though i several of them
she's not the mian focus!!
This is a great set in most ways, especially that it has
closed captions on all movies and several give you the
choice of watching them in B & W or color! But the bad,
and this is huge, is the packaging! There's no real
protections for the disc and I received it with at least
6 discs flopping around in the case!!
STAND UP AND CHEER(1934):
office of amusement to cheer up the people of the US!) and
there's a group of politicians who feel that it's better for
big business for everyone to be depressed! Of course the bright
spot in the movie is Shirley!! B
A review from IMDb.com
A musical with a short running time and the original concept
of a Broadway producer being appointed as the secretary of
amusement by the U.S president . This becomes an excuse for
a series of song and dance and cabaret skits with a loose
plot which includes a cursory love story and some political
skullduggery. Most of the song and dance numbers are tedious
but it is interesting to see an early appearance from Shirley
Temple. The comedy skits are rather better with Mitchell and
Durant doing some wonderful acrobatics and Nigel Bruce, 14th
billed as Dinwiddie, being droll, though his appearances are
disappointingly fleeting (apparently there are 12 minutes
lost from the original cut). Stepin Fetchit's antics will
divide modern audiences in this P.C age! - loloandpete

The last time I watched "Baby, Take a Bow" I liked
it but it kind of left me a little flat. Not today.
Today, the last hour or so is so strong that I forgave
any dips the movie took early on. Shirley Temple's
supporting cast is very good. I don't know where I
would rank I would rank "Baby, Take a Bow" in Shirley
Temple's filmography but today I really enjoyed it. - pmtelefon

A review from Amazon:
Hollywood's smallest, biggest star Shirley Temple
plays an orphan caught up in a custody battle. She
worships a daredevil pilot(James Dunn)and through
the course of the movie gets the chance to sing
and make immortal "On the Good Ship Lollipop".
Also in the steadfast cast are: Jane Darwell,
Judith Allen, Charles Sellon and probably the
show stealer Jane Withers. Withers is the perfect
rich brat to be mean to the poor little orphan
(Temple). One of the better projects of the busy
little "curly top". - britneyxyz "Britney"

A review from Amazon:
Though really a comedy-drama that focuses on the
reconciliation of an estranged father and daughter
in the years following the American Civil War, the
film pairs Shirley Temple with Bill "Bojangles"
Robinson in the first of four cinematic pairings
between Robinson and the most successful child star
of all time. Most of Temple's films contain a song
and dance or two, and this one features the duo's
famous staircase dance. - Musicals on the Silver

A review from an Amazon.com customer:
Elizabeth Blair (Shirley Temple) is one the girls living
in Lakeside Orphanage. Her flamboyance and joyful play
is not appreciated by the regimented staff. She is defended
by her old sister Mary who stays there by working hard
dark and night. Wealthy Edward Morgan is taken with them.
He adopts Elizabeth but keeps it a secret from her so
that she doesn't feel obligated to him.
The premise is weird and non-sensical. A cynical mind
could twist its intended wholesomeness. The story doesn't
have much in terms of drama. It has a few hit songs.
More than anything, it has Shirley Temple and her
relentless cuteness. Her unstoppable optimism is an
antidote to the darkness during the heart of the Great
Depression. It's not going to work the same way in a
different modern world but her adorable charisma is
undeniable. - SnoopyStyle

A review from an Amazon.com Customer:
First Shirley Temple picture I've really sat down to
watch. Feels like The Beguiled, a Civil War picture
that's less about the war and more about women struggling
on the sudden warfront. And the general senselessness of war.
Kind of irritating Mr Cary and the Yankee officer have
the same stupid mustache but I guess it was the style.
Oh man, the "why is a shoe called a shoe" bit is fantastic.
And of course Shirley's song and dance bits are the reason
for a Shirley Temple picture so are great. - lilpest9

Maybe the best all-around movie of Shirley's career in terms
of the acting of the entire ensemble and a well-constructed

A review from an IMDb.com customer:
I usually really like watching the old and charming
Shirley Temples. But this one, Dimples, just simply
isn´t a very good movie. Some fairly good actors are
in it but all together it´s very tiring and unrealistic
little film. Shirley´s charisma just doesn´t hit it
this time. And when it doesn´t hit, the only thing
that shows is her acting which is not anything special.
The only quite good thing is the songs and dance
rutines but other wise: boring. Also it just shines
out how bad possition black actors had in Hollywood
on the 30s. This is not Shirley´s best, watch Curly
top or The Little Princess instead. - talking_tree

Shirley Temple, Robert Young, and Alice Faye star
in this wonderful family film. Shirley Temple plays
Barbara Stewart aka Ching-Ching, a lovable child who
befriends Tommy Randall (Robert Young) in China. Both

they both meet Susan Parker (Alice Faye, in a brilliant
performance). If you like Shirley Temple films and

When director John Ford got this assignment, he was not
too thrilled about working with a little girl as the lead
actress. But when they started shooting, he was completely
impressed by her acting chops, dedication to the film and
bravery. Once scene called for her to run out of the way
of stampeding horses. Naturally, Fox told Ford to use
a stand-in, but when Shirley found out, she told Ford
that she could do it herself. She did, and that totally
won Ford over. By the way, the kid could really

A review from an IMDb.com customer:
Like most Shirley Temple movies, this one showcases the
remarkable talents of this irresistible child performer
who was able to memorize lines, learn dance steps, and
sing so beautifully she could charm the birds out of the
trees. The special musical numbers to watch out for in
this essentially nonmusical are a rousing tap dance with
the great Bill "Bojangles" Robinson to the tune of "Parade
of the Wooden Soldiers" and little Shirley's rendition
of "An Old Straw Hat." - LeonardKniffel

This is a pretty entertaining Shirley Temple movie.
Basically, Shirley singlehandedly ends of the Great
Depression. Sure, it's unrealistic, but does anyone
really expect a Shirley Temple movie to be a display
of stark realism? Shirley was still cute, there were
good musical numbers, and a good deal of funny scenes

A review from IMDb.com:
We are always captivated by a young person's grown up
prowess on stage or screen. This is certainly true of
Temple's performance. We are intimidated by her poise
and strength, but endeared to her by her sincerity. Who
will forget Caesar Romero (or better who would guess
it was him)in the role of the Indian servant? The scene
when Queen Victoria visits the hospital is gripping.
On the one hand, we know the writers could not be so
cruel to let her father escape her, yet on the other
hand the writers and players condition you into
feeling ... . Well, you'll just have to watch the movie.
Temple also pulls off the "the princess and the pauper"
(one implied title of the movie) class switch well.
Excellent character actors and actresses support.
I think a good movie for young people to watch. - obrofta
